Consumer Complaint: I received an American Express prepaid gift card from my employer in the amount of {$300.00}. The card number is XXXX XXXX XXXX. When I attempted to make purchases with the card, it was declined repeatedly. I spoke with AE customer service on XX/XX/2023 and they told me the transactions were blocked for unknown reasons and I would be unable to use the card at those retailers. When I asked what retailers are authorized for use with this card, they did not have an answer, despite the fact that their website states You can use your American Express eGift Card with any United States-based online, phone, or mail-order merchants wherever American Express Cards are accepted . This statement can be found at https : //www.amexgiftcard.com/frequently-asked-questions Customer service was unable to give me any information other than to try using the card at other retailers until I had success. They also informed me that the balance of the card had been decreased to {$290.00}, again for unknown reasons. This system seems designed to skim a few dollars from American consumers. They are holding my legal tender XXXX and there is apparently nothing customer service can do about it. All I want is the total balance of my card paid in check.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I got a respond from XXXX XXXX AMERICAN EXPRESS Customer Advocate Team application # XXXX ; stating that they make sure all " credit worthy applicant '' have access to credit and follow all Federal Laws and Regulations. But how are they following All Federal Regulations when pursuant to Equal Credit Opportunity Act ( ECOA ) 15 U.S Code 1691 ( a ) ( 1 ) ( 3 ) says " It shall be unlawful for any creditor to discriminate against any applicant, with respect to any aspect of a credit transaction : ( 1 ) on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex or marital status, or age ( provided the applicant has the capacity to contract ) ; ( 3 ) because the applicant has in good faith exercised any right under this chapter. '' " I, the Natural Living Man and consumer declares under the Laws of the United States of America that I am a I do have the " capacity to contract and the application was issued in good faith exercising my right for extension of credit. '' American Express used hearsay information from a third-party non affiliated credit reporting agency which they can not validate to determine my credit worthiness ; that is " discrimination '' against me and violation of the " Equal Credit Opportunity Act '' ECOA and Consumer Credit Protection Act to proclaim an adverse action against a consumer. No where in the ECOA or any Federal Laws did Congress authorized any alleged creditors to use third-party information that said credit or can not validate as a determining factor for extension of credit. Congress itself can not validate Consumer Reporting Agencies Reports which is they enacted the " Fair Credit Reporting Act '' FCRA to hold these corporations accountable because consumers are violated daily with inaccurate reporting of information. American Express also stated that its decision was in accordance with Federal Laws and Regulations, which is false, misleading and deceptive. Pursuant to 12 CFR Part 1002 - Equal Credit Opportunity Act ( Regulation B ) " Regulation B protects applicants from discrimination in any aspect of a credit transaction. Credit transactions and aspects of credit transactions include : Consumer credit Business credit Mortgage loans Refinancing Open-end credit Credit applications Standards of creditworthiness Denial of credit Servicing and collection Revocation, alteration, or termination of credit.. It is also a Federal Offense pursuant to 15 U.S. Code 1611 ( 1 ) ( 3 ) - Criminal liability for willful and knowing violation : Whoever willfully and knowingly ( 1 ) gives false or inaccurate information or fails to provide information which he is required to disclose under the provisions of this subchapter or any regulation issued thereunder, ( 3 ) otherwise fails to comply with any requirement imposed under this subchapter, shall be fined not more than {$5000.00} or imprisoned not more than one year, or both. AMERICAN EXPRESS is willfully and knowingly providing me with false and inaccurate information and denying me extension of credit after they have securitized my application and received full valuable consideration from the trust for said loan receivable collateral. This is all verified in AMERICAN EXPRESS Securities and Exchange Commission Form 10-K agreement filing Commission File NoXXXX XXXX, ( I.R.S. Employer Identification No. ) XXXX This is a violation of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, Securities Act of 1933 and organized crime against the American People. AMERICAN EXPRESS is securitizing the loan receivables, receiving full valuable consideration from the trust, but denying me access to my securities. This is SECURITIES FRAUD.

Consumer Complaint: I purchased a gift card from american express. total balance on gift card is {$44.00}. I have been unable to use gift card with any merchant. I called on XXXX at XXXX XXXX, and XXXX at XXXX with XXXX and XXXX. Both times the rep said to AMEX gift card customer service at XXXX, the CS rep says to try to use at another merchant. Transactions will show pending on the account, but will not complete. AMEX Rep says they are declining all transactions to ensure " Security '' on the account. After stating I would contact consumer finance, AMEX rep said they would open a case and send a check in the mail within 3 weeks. Over 2 months later, on XX/XX/2023, I have not received any check in the mail nor any status update. Card is still unusable everywhere I try to use it. I called the company, and spoke with " XXXX '' who said my case was closed and no check was sent. XXXX also said id, proof of address, and card details needed to be emailed to a specified email address. Upon complaining, she escalated me to XXXX. XXXX tried to get me a replacement card instead of check in the mail. XXXX submitted a new case and said it would require another 3 weeks before I would receive my check in the mail. This is now 4 months of trying to use my {$44.00}

I used on it XXXX/XXXX/203 at the XXXX on XXXX XXXX XXXX in for {$42.00} and purchase went through. However from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I have been declined at XXXX XXXX, XXXX on line once and a gas station in XXXX XXXX ( I went inside to make my purchase. I have also been declined at the same XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX where my purchase went through on XXXX day. I spoke with a customer service rep on XX/XX/XXXX and was told my card was declined to my to my safety and protection of my card and that I could try other merchants. I don't have time to go all over town and see if my card will work on a purchase. Their web site says the card can be used anywhere. This is a not true. I can't use my card. I want my money. Also I am reading on the web site XXXX and d this is happening to a lot of people. AMEX is stealing our money!

Consumer Complaint: I accepted AmEx card in XXXX XXXX with an advertised 0 % interest rate through the billing period ending XXXX XXXX, per offered terms. I then used the card to pay for XXXX XXXX XXXX points sold in XXXX along with this AmEx card promotion. I was, however, charged {$530.00} in interest with my statement that closed XXXX even though I paid my balance in full on the account XXXX. Note that I later contacted AmEx by phone to understand/confirm when I'd need to pay this balance to avoid interest with a clear indication that if I paid the XXXX statement by the XXXX due date that I'd avoid interest. By AmEx 's own admission, I should be rebated this interest charge based on the sentiment of their own supervisor who on my XXXX call with him said he understood my issue and it made sense to him given my payment history, and he was therefore submitting for investigation. Then, when I called back XXXX for adjudication status of investigation, that representative, while saying nothing favorable would be done for me, conceded that she can see I was previously told that if I paid my balance for the XXXX statement in full by my XXXX due date, I'd avoid interest. If not for this incorrect and/or deceptive guidance, I could have avoided these interest charges. I made every good faith effort to comply with the terms and conditions but have been charged this unreasonable, usurious rate in excess of 25 %.

Consumer Complaint: Received a prepaid AMEX gift card from my company with {$100.00} loaded on it. Confirmed {$100.00} is available on XX/XX/XXXX. Attempted to use {$100.00} of the gift card on XX/XX/XXXX on XXXX XXXX XXXX to pay towards a cruise. Charge was declined even though they take AMEX ( XXXX customer service confirmed AMEX and gift cards can be used ). Checked the balance after it was declined, and XXXX cents was depleted. I attempted a XXXX time on XXXXXXXX XXXX site, this time for only {$90.00}, and the charge was declined again. Checked the balance again and another XXXX cents was taken out. My available balance was now {$99.00} instead of the original {$100.00}. On XX/XX/XXXX, I attempted to use it on XXXX, a pet supply website. XXXX also takes AMEX. My total order was {$80.00}, which was declined by AMEX. This is the third time the card was declined. After searching online about this, I discovered on XXXX and consumer complaint sites that A LOT of people are unable to use AMEX gift cards and getting declined at the majority of retailers. I would like this investigated because it seems AMEX is declining transactions on purpose for Financial reasons, trying to commit fraud on consumers and companies who purchase these. I will be reporting this to my company since they purchase a XXXX XXXX of these {$100.00} gift cards a year. As a consumer, I would like my {$100.00} from AMEX that I was supposed to be able to use from the gift card!

Consumer Complaint: I was gifted an American Express gift card as a present for XXXX from family. Attempting to utilize the gift card, it has been declined by multiple websites and even though the purchase amounts are less than the available balance. Upon contacting American Express to try and resolve the issue, no explanation for why the card isn't accepted has been provided and I was also told that the card is locked and I can not use the card until at least one week from today, effectively making the gift useless. This feels like a scam on their part since the card can't be used initially at reputable ecommerce websites like XXXX, XXXX or XXXX and is now Locked from further use for at least the next 7 days.
