Consumer Complaint: I received an electronic American Express gift card from a client on XX/XX/23 via email with a balance of {$400.00}. I attempted to use the gift card at a multitude of merchants ( XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX ) and the card was declined. I contacted AmEx customer service on XX/XX/23, XX/XX/23 and XX/XX/23 and was told each time that there was a security block due to the amount of times I attempted to use the card. I was asked to attempt to use the card at a different merchant, as the card was shown in their system as ready to use. The card was subsequently declined at several other merchants and AmEx refused to replace the gift card. They also refused to admit there were any issues on their side preventing the card from being used.

Consumer Complaint: I received an AMEX gift card in the amount of XXXX for Christmas this year. I called the number on the back of the card to activate it. Card has been activated but every where I've tried to use the card it has come back declined, even for smaller then the balance of the card purchases. I have called AMEX gift card customer service and was told to try a different vendor with no other information given. I tried a few different vendors that required the security code to be entered and the transaction still came back declined.

Consumer Complaint: I purchased an Amex gift card of XXXX dollars and a XXXX XXXX fee at a XXXX store. The purchase was a gift, and when I gave it to my parents it doesnt work ANYWHERE. Not online, not in XXXX XXXX, not in any convenient store or gas station, not even in the XXXX I had made the purchase. Ive called the company and XXXX gift card costumer service and neither were helpful at all. XXXX basically told me well its your money figure it out, your complain is noted. The Amex costumer service wont even answer.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2023, is the date I put {$50.00} on an AMEX prepaid card. I attempted to use this card on a number of online businesses that I was advised to utilize by the internet and customer support. I am verydisappointed with the information I received because I was unable to use it for anything. I've tried a lot of websites, including XXXX XXXX and XXXX, but all I get is " cardinvalid. '' WhenI called assistance a second time, I was informed that, contrary to what was stated in the fine print, I was not allowed to use the card for online purchases.

Consumer Complaint: I have two Amex Gift Cards that I got as a promotion when I installed my HVAC units. They both came with {$500.00} on them about a year ago. I was able to use them for a bit but everywhere I've tried lately they've been denied. I'm not trying unsecure sites ( I've been getting denied XXXX XXXX doctors office, hospitals... you know, highly regulated medical sites ). But according to Amex the sites aren't secure enough. But I've also been denied in person at my car mechanics shop. It is NOT that I was never able to use them, I've spent over {$850.00} of the {$1000.00}. But lately it's been a gamble and they get denied more often then accepted. I called today to ask and after fighting with their automated system I got a human being and their response was just keep trying to use them in other places. They shouldn't be randomly denied anywhere. I've still got {$120.00} on them that I look like a fool trying to spend because 95 % of the time they're declined for no reason whatsoever. Even in locations they've previously been accepted they can be declined ( or locations they've previously been declined they'll be accepted! ). I would like this money refunded to me by check so I don't have to play the game of try to figure out where I'm going to be able to spend it today. Amex Gift Cards say you can use them anywhere Amex is accepted, this is clearly NOT true.

Consumer Complaint: American Express eGift cards are not usable on any major platform including with vendors they state it can be used with. Their customer service is not helpful nor do they give information to resolve the matter. Their instructions of adding your personal name and address upon check out does not work with vendors and causes payments to be blocked. I am unable to use the gift card gifted to me by my employer. I have current two of significant amounts. American Express eGift cards can not be used in a way that they are advertised and listed as being able to be used due to the way they are set up. If used the way they are instructed to be used they will trigger a blocked payment. I am also unable to add the gift card to my digital mobile wallet due to the nature of the gift card product despite it being listed by American Express of being able to. There is no way for me to access the funds at all.

Consumer Complaint: I communicated to American Express National Bank directly to there PO Address communicated directly to their corporate inbox. I first communicated with them on XXXX of XXXX and they have yet to respond. As the original cardholder and holder in due course, I exercised my right to initiate a consumer credit transactions with American Express National Bank to open a credit account. According to federal law ( 15 USC Section 1602 ), a " credit card '' includes any device used to obtain credit, which I have granted your corporation. I am well aware of my rights as a consumer, and credit is a right granted by me, the creditor ( 15 USC Section 1602 ( f ) ). They denied my application, my right to extend credit, and discriminated against me. Additionally, reporting to consumer reporting agencies is voluntary, and I did not receive proper information to opt out. Additionally, I have not received any benefits from the use of my credit. The denial of my right to extend credit has caused me severe financial, discrimination, emotional, and mental distress. Also, I was deprived from my disclosure rights not to allow my personal information to be shared with the public and with 3rd party credit reporting agencies. The only credit bureau that exist is the CFPB. There are no federal laws that empower a credit score, missing credit bureau information, age of account, or the bank to deny me my right to extend credit ( 15 USC Section 1691 ). Discrimination against an applicant in a credit transaction is unlawful ( 15 USC Section 1691 ).
