Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Charged too much interest
Consumer Complaint: I did not sign up for the " pay over time option ''. I have had the credit card for over 20 years. Always have paid the balance in full. I do not pay interest. But now they have put part of the new charges each month into a " pay over time '' scenario that ALLOWS you to pay that portion of the balance over time. I paid my XXXX balance and XXXX balance IN FULL. I did not take any TIME to pay it. Yet, I have the interest charge. For 2023, the Interest To Date is {$120.00}. I have " turned off '' the " pay over time '' feature on the account by going online and selecting it to be " off ''. Problem is, I never turned it " on ''. They did. I want my money back. I did NOT take any TIME to pay the balance, so how can there be any interest due?

Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: AMEX adds interest fees for 2 to 3 billing periods despite all the FULL monthly TOTAL being paid in full. For several recurring months, I have been charged in excess of {$1200.00} for interest charges despite each month having paid and exceeded my FULL monthly balance. Their claim is that the 1 day delay in them processing the payment has caused not only the {$40.00} late charge fee, but also accrued interest. In looking at the monthly statement each month, my previous balance is less than my payments and credits amount, but just a it was with XXXX XXXX in XXXX when they created fake accounts to augment their service fees and internal metrics, AMEX added the 'pay over time ' product to my account WITHOUT my consent. Because of this new feature in my account that was added back in XX/XX/XXXX, it allowed Amex to begin charging interest fees on my monthly balances. And according to them, as they were explaining this to me, is because interest fees continue to be charged for up to 3 billing cycles, despite each month 's balance being paid in FULL. I imagine this pay-over-time feature and its relationship to how interest fees continue for 3 billing cycles may not be something that people are familiar with, so I'm hoping that by posting this here, and in the consumer protection website, that more people become aware of this practice which seems solely designed to extract service fees. Sincerely, XXXX, Amex Member since XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I opened a credit card that was supposed to come with benefits. None of the benefits were received. Immediately upon opening the credit card I called AMEX to confirm I would receive the benefits of the card, most specifically the platinum elite status with XXXX and was told this could take some time. That is not in the terms and conditions of the card that it would take some time. The terms and conditions state that when the card is opened I am platinum elite with XXXX. I called numerous times to AMEX to try to convey to XXXX that I have this card spending over an hour and a half on the phone on XX/XX/XXXX. Please listen the calls. At the end of the hour and half I said I was dissatisfied that my problem could no be solved ( I did not show as platinum elite in the XXXX system online ) and I was put on hold and then disconnected. Terrible service.
