Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt is not yours

Consumer Complaint: In late XXXX, I received a letter from XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX claiming that I owed them {$1100.00} relating to damage to a rental vehicle with which I was involved in a minor accident and for which they claim I am responsible. Because there was no damage to the vehicle in question resulting from the accident in which I was involved, in XX/XX/2020, via phone, I asked that XXXX send me a copy of the police reporting relating to the accident but continued to receive multiple letters claiming that I owed the money. Finally, on XX/XX/2020, after asking via phone on multiple occasions, I did receive a copy ( via email from XXXX ) of the police report in which it is written that there was only minor damage ( scratches to the bumper ) to the vehicle in question. I advised her that I didn't think I was responsible for the debt because there was no damage caused by the minor accident I was in and the claimed date of loss was almost a month after the date of the accident. The vehicle may have been damaged, but I didn't cause the damage. Notwithstanding all of this, the matter was sent to a collection agency ( Transworld Systems Inc. ) and they sent me a first letter dated XX/XX/2020 and continue to send subsequent letters. I have now been sent to collection for a debt that I do not owe and which has not been established that I owe. I worry that this improper attempt to collect a debt I do not owe will soon show up on my credit report.

Consumer Complaint: My health insurance was having trouble getting a correct bill from the medical provider XXXX XXXX XXXX. They finally got a final bill AFTER I was sent to collections. They never gave me the opportunity to pay prior to going to collections which I explained to both the Provider and the Collection Agency. After months of going back and forth and proving I should've had a {$0.00} balance I ended up just paying with the promise that they would delete this from my credit since the accounts should've never been there to begin with. Now a month later they STILL have not deleted the collections and refuse to. They refuse to give me any information to their CEO to escalate the issue and they refuse to give me their corporate info so I could file a complaint with them directly.

Consumer Complaint: Under 15 USCA 1692 c of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, this is my formal notice for you to cease all telephone calls except for those permitted by federal law. I am not cutting off communication with your company but rather reduce all communication to writing from here on out. This letter is your formal notice to cease the pursuit of a debt that has already been paid, and for you to confirm the {$0.00} balance owing on the account in the referenced matter below. I'd also like you to confirm that you in fact accepted my payment of {$140.00} on XX/XX/2020. The debt was originally owned by XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX for tolls. The account number given will be the license plate number will be included in this request under account number. On XX/XX/2020 after being given verbal permission from XXXX XXXX ( Which was recorded ) a Transworld Systems Inc. representative and I made a verbal agreement to pay the specific settlement amount of {$140.00} in exchange for the account to be closed. I paid the agreed settlement amount of {$140.00} which I have proof of via bank statements. Transworld Systems Inc. tells callers before the conversation even starts ; that the phone call is being recorded. So they have physical proof of this phone call. I would like to request a transcript of this phone call as proof that my debt has been paid and should be closed. This is no longer an open account. I have had two calls with Transworld Systems Inc. in which information was being provided to me about the account with no problem. On the 3rd call to check on the status of the closed account. Transworld Systems Inc. took it upon themselves to revoke my given permission to negotiate on behalf of XXXX XXXX for the debt owed. I am willing to take legal action if this account is not closed within 15 days of receiving this request. I am willing to take legal action if I do not receive a written response ( including a written transcript of phone calls between me and Transworld Systems Inc.representatives ) within 15 days of receiving this request. Sincerely XXXX XXXX

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXXXXXX University - XXXX, XXXX ; XXXX I was furloughed without pay in between XXXX and XX/XX/2020 due to COVID ( letter attached to support this claim ). During this time, I missed a couple of payments with UAS because I was very stressed about eLearning for my school-aged daughter, fighting with Florida 's unemployment system ( which is terrible and frustrating ) so that I could pay bills and have food on the table, and a death in the family. UAS does not offer any sort of " Your Payment is Due Soon '' or " You Missed a Payment '' messaging. They only send emails stating, " You Have a New Document Available. '' Every single other creditor sends me a message about payments coming due. This helped me manage all of the other bills and I was not late once on any others. Due to the stress and financial implications of COVID, I feel that all creditors should give some grace. The federal loans got this right. But, the holders of Perkins Loans feel that they must penalize Americans during these uncertain times. With their reporting of this late payment, this dropped my credit score 75 points. In addition, they charged hefty late fees. I paid all of it up to date on XXXX and a few days later was I was rewarded for this with a 60-day late payment mark with the credit bureaus. I have not been late with any creditors for over 2 years and I was trying so hard, but then COVID came. I feel like all creditors need to have some grace. UAS feels that they can be predatory because the federal government hasn't mandated that they give borrowers some grace.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt was paid

Consumer Complaint: A year after moving ( XXXX ), I was contacted via telephone by Transworld Systems. The representative informed me that they were attempting to collect a debt in the amount of {$130.00} on behalf of XXXX XXXX, my previous energy provider. I explained that I verified with XXXX XXXX before departure that there was no outstanding balance. Further, I informed the Transworld Systems representative that I would contact XXXX XXXX directly, verify this information, and settle any remaining debt if applicable. When I called XXXX XXXX, I was informed that no debt existed and nothing had been sent to a collections agency. At this point, I disregarded the call from Transworld Systems as it appeared to be a scam call. In XX/XX/XXXX, I received notice of unpaid debt reported to the credit bureaus. After examination, I realized it was Transworld Systems reporting the debt of {$130.00}. I immediately disputed it as fraudulent as I had already received confirmation that it never existed. It was removed from my credit report. In XX/XX/XXXX, I received mail from Transworld Systems acknowledging that I reported my identity being stolen in reference to the debt. Included in the mailed documentation were an identity theft report form and a bill from XXXX XXXX. I did not complete the form as the fraudulent action is not identity theft, but Transworld Systems ' attempt to collect false debt. Further, the bill included as evidence is just a copy of a bill from XXXX, not an overdue/unpaid notice. Upon receiving the mailed documents from Transworld Systems, I immediately pursued written confirmation that no original debt existed. XXXX XXXX is now XXXX XXXX. I explained what was occurring and received the following response : " Thank you for contacting XXXX XXXX. We understand your concern regarding this balance and are glad to assist. We have confirmed that the amount of the final bill was covered and that there should not have been a balance to send to a collection agency. Our records indicate that you may contact them directly at the number XXXX to inform them that the payment was processed. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. '' Because I'm at the point of distrust for Transworld Systems, I contacted them through their support e-mail so that I would receive a response in writing acknowledging that no further actions would be taken. It has been weeks and the company has not responded. In reviewing this company, there appear to be a lot of people having the same issue with attempts to collect debt that does not exist.
