Issue: Incorrect information on your report
Subissue: Public record information inaccurate
Consumer Complaint: I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the conduct of TransUnion, a major credit reporting agency. I believe TransUnion has violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) by not following proper procedures in verifying account information and reporting bankruptcy data. Upon reviewing my credit report obtained from TransUnion on XX/XX/, I discovered inaccuracies related to a bankruptcy filing. It has come to my attention that TransUnion did not directly contact the furnisher of the account, as mandated by law. Instead, they relied on third-party verification processes, such as PACER ( Public Access to Court Electronic Records ) . I wish to emphasize that verification through third parties like PACER is not adequate verification as stipulated by the law. The FCRA requires credit reporting agencies to directly contact the source of the information, i.e., the furnisher of the account, to ensure accuracy and reliability. This violation has had a detrimental impact on my creditworthiness and overall financial standing. As a result of the inaccurate reporting of bankruptcy, I have faced negative consequences, such as denial of credit or higher interest rates. Although I have initiated the dispute process with TransUnion to rectify the inaccuracies, I am deeply concerned about the broader implications of their failure to comply with the FCRA. It is crucial that credit reporting agencies adhere to the law to uphold the integrity of consumer credit reports and protect consumers ' rights. I respectfully request that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action against TransUnion for their non-compliance with the FCRA. Additionally, I seek assistance in resolving the inaccuracies on my credit report and ensuring that my rights as a consumer are safeguarded. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I anticipate a prompt response and resolution of this issue. Sincerely,
