Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: I had a similar problem a couple years ago with PayPal/Synchrony where my payments would not go through even though I had the funds available and PayPal had my banking information. I was just informed by the Office of the President of Synchrony that PayPal has taken over all transactions, and that in XX/XX/2022 they disenrolled me from automatic payments for my XXXX. I have been paying my PayPal credit account via check since the first issues, but the XXXX payment was able to be paid via automatic payments. Now none of my bank accounts are available on the PayPal website and I am unable to add them. I have tried unsuccessfully on multiple occasions. When I call, they refuse to help me. This problem has been aggravating and detrimental to my credit. I have had the bank accounts linked to PayPal for at least 20 years without any problems until they became associated with Synchrony. Now Synchrony states they don't have the ability to link bank accounts to a credit card they fund and PayPal indicates they can't and won't help. I want all late funds reimbursed and payments due held without fees or delinquency until they have properly linked the bank accounts. I have spoken with PayPal and Synchrony on the following dates. XXXX XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX.

Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: My account was close with out notification. I have been a customer with Lowes credit card or synchrony Bank credit card since XXXX. I have had good standing and made my balance payment on time. I had a credit limit of XXXX with them. I recently got a report from my credit dropping XXXX point due to my account being close. When I called on XX/XX/XXXX they inform me they ran my credit on XX/XX/XXXX with out my consent. They close my account and reopen it with out my permission. When they try to credit verify my credit had recently token a hit due to fraud in the last couple of months. I called to get more information and they stated they had to right to run my credit at any time. I look threw there terms and condition and found nothing stating they could and did that with out my permission. I use this card monthly and would have no reason for my account to be close. This is unfair and discriminatory practice and should be look into. After doing more research I found that XXXX XXXX had been caught doing the same. I have contacted them and even there customer support agree some unfair and shady practice was accruing. They where unable to open back my account and solve resolve the issue with the damage that was done to my credit.

Consumer Complaint: On or about XX/XX/XXXXXXXX the Law Firm of XXXXXXXX issued a payment to my PayPal account in the amount of {$130.00} for my portion of a class action settlement against XXXX XXXX XXXX PayPal, though its servicing bank, Synchrony Bank, misapplied the payment and refused to make the necessary adjustment to apply the payment to its rightful location my account. I filed a dispute with PayPal/Synchrony ( PayPal ) which went nowhere for several weeks. After XXXX months, PayPal finally processed the refund, only to reverse it without justification on XX/XX/XXXX. This is not the first issue I have had with Synchrony Bank. Refer to CFPB Case No. XXXX XXXX in which Synchrony erroneously posted a hard inquiry to my XXXX credit profile, causing an erosion to my credit score, subsequently acknowledged this error yet refused to remove the inquiry. There is a SERIOUS issue with Synchrony Banks accounting/controls and I am being victimized as a direct consequence.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Sent card you never applied for
Consumer Complaint: I am XXXX XXXX XXXX. In XXXX of 2021, I was scheduled for XXXX XXXX XXXX. My doctor asked me to go to the XXXX for a check up beforehand for routine cleaning and X-rays. I did not have a XXXX, so I used a XXXX referral number and chose a location near where I live. When I went to the XXXX they had me fill out a lot of paperwork and they did procedures on me that I do not believe were necessary and which went far beyond what I had requested. They gave me an estimate for the work and had me sign off on it. As I was leaving, I asked them to send me a bill so I could pay them by check. I never received a bill from the XXXX. Some time later, I received a credit card from a company named CareCredit. I had never heard of CareCredit, so I believed I had been a victim of identity theft and called them several times to let them know I had not opened the account, but they did not get back to me. About a year later, I received a debt collection letter from a law firm claiming to represent Synchrony Bank which issued the credit card. I told them it was not my card and I had not applied for it. They did a fraud investigation and said it was my card and for the first time I learned that the XXXX had signed me up for the credit card without my knowledge or consent. I was never given the terms of the account before charges were made.

Consumer Complaint: I was ripped off by a guy on XX/XX/XXXX. He posed as a PayPal employee, and he ripped me off for over {$6500.00}. A police report was filed on the XXXX. I also filed a report with the FBI. Then yesterday, XX/XX/XXXX, I found out, that my credit score had lowered from XXXX down to XXXX, and upon investigation, I found out that a venmo credit card was opened using my info, on the XXXX of XXXX. I have had a venmo account for at least a year already, but I did not have a credit card with them. I had received a credit card from them a few days ago and just thought it was something they were sending out, because I have had an account with them for over a year. Then yesterday I signed up for the credit card monitoring service through XXXX, because I went to apply for an XXXX XXXX credit card, so I could purchase some music, and I was declined. I was thinking how could I get declined if my credit score was XXXX just a couple months ago, and once I got the XXXX monitoring service, I noticed that the credit card was opened on the XXXX of XXXX, and that it had already had a balance of {$1900.00}, and so the PayPal thief got a credit card opened up under my name and I guess did a cash withdrawal of the money. I was told to file a report with the FTC and so I got directed through the FTC to file it through you guys.

Issue: Took or threatened to take negative or legal action
Subissue: Threatened to sue you for very old debt
Consumer Complaint: I was contacted by a person named XXXX XXXX, he somehow was able to contact me by cell phone. He said he was calling from a lawfirm ( unnamed ) on behalf of a company that purchased a debt from XXXX XXXX XXXX. They provided me with the phone number XXXX and case number XXXX. I had my daughter call them to follow up. XXXX spoke to her, they said to her that they were looking to serve her papers for a court appearance for a debt due and garnish wages. She asked for more information but he immediately responded that he was not able to provide anything over the phone, she asked for ie ; the name of the purchaser, the account number, amount due, time of when the debt existed, if it was inside of the statue of limitations for the debt collection, and how to settle. XXXX responded the debt was from XXXX, with an original balance of about {$650.00}, with a now current balance of over XXXX XXXX for fees and attorneys fees. He informed her a letter was sent to the house from the collection agency in XXXX XXXX to provide her with options to settle the debt. No such letter was ever received. He told her he could have her settle outside of court, pay {$800.00} or payment plan of the XXXX XXXX plus fees and would put the serving of the papers on hold for 4 hours, to be served at home and my workplace while we decide what to do. She agreed and he called back in XXXX hours to discuss what the decision was from the number XXXX. My daughter asked for a copy of an invoice of what is due, a copy of the letter that was sent but not received. XXXX got aggressive and refused to provide the settlement letter because " he cant just give that opportunity again ''. She told him she had no way in agreeing to anything or reviewing options if there was no paperwork to do that from. He agreed to send her a settlement letter, which I will attach here for reference. The name of the law firm is XXXX XXXX XXXX which I believe may be short for XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX with an address based in California. The letter contains the original company in which the debt is due, my name, partial of my address, and my social security number, along with the settlement agreement and form to submit my credit card payment. She called XXXX back to discuss why the address was incomplete, if we were to submit payment via the form. He said that's what was provided by the company, she pointed out that it would then make it impossible for the letter to have ever been received, he responded casually that that was normally the case, so improper informing of such debt and legal action confirmed. Upon research of the company, many scam complaints come up referencing the same person XXXX, for similar collections amounts, similar script. Example XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX They look to be based out of XXXX XXXX. The rep XXXX XXXX may be an imposter, there is a lawyer in XXXX XXXX with the same name they may be imitating. My daughter contacted SHOPNBC, now XXXX, to verify the information the law firm has provided on the letter, while the name account number and social match, the balance amount, the incompleteness of the address did not match. The account has not had any activity since XXXX and was closed and deleted on XX/XX/XXXX, as per the XXXX company. The number for the XXXX credit card company is XXXX. This is way outside of the limitation for debt collection, as well as incorrect amount, as well as a refusal to provide any account information by the law firm/collector, threatening of lawsuit and garnishment, as well as improper handling of private information. How did this law firm get my social security number, my old SHOPNBC credit card number, my name, and current cellphone number?
