Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: I checked my credit report a few weeks ago and found multiple accounts listed as synchrony and reported them as fraud to experian. They contacted synchrony and they sent letters saying they were valid debts. I havent opened any accounts under the places they are reporting. I was locked out of my email address listed on the accounts they have, I havent lived at the address listed under the accounts, they do have my correct birthday, social, and at one point even had my banking information. I didnt monitor my bank account closely and when I seen the charges I closed it out since somebody was using my bank account. I contacted the companies and they said they didnt have any accounts under my name. Thought that was the end of it until I seen it listed as an unpaid debt on my report. They used the address for a property I am buying, but havent lived there for 4 years. I didnt receive anything in the mail for the debts. They refuse to listen and close out the accounts, and expect them to be paid for in full. There were also multiple addresses, variations of my name with wrong spelling, phone numbers, places I work I have been a XXXX for 13 years and some other questionable things. XXXX is working on what they can handle, but I need help getting the rest dealt with since I didnt open any accounts or even shop through the places listed.

Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: I opened a store credit card with Rooms to Go by Synchrony Bank. In XXXX with zero percent interest for 4 or 5 years. I paid the minimum payments according to my pay period which resulted in late fees being assessed to the account. These late fees were put in a seperate interest of 29.99 %. Even though the account was being paid down Synchrony routinely lowered my credit limit to adversely affect my credit so it would appear as though I was not paying down the credit card though I was. In XX/XX/XXXX I believe, ONE of my payments was returned by my bank resulting in me missing a payment. Synchrony immediately closed the account, giving me no access to the credit limit and it was removed as an account on my credit report. However, Synchrony has continued to assess my account late fees like it is still an active account. When I questioned Synchrony as to why I am being billed late fees on a closed account they essentially said that they are still sending me a billing statement and I have the choice to pay the balance in full. This should not be legal. They chose to close the account to adversely affect my credit, yet are continuing to bill and assess my account fees as though it is still open to their benefit. This should be illegal and not permitted. I am aware that I am still responsible for the balance, which is why I continued paying it. On one hand they continue to send billing statements, the balances accrue interest and I'm assess late fees when the payments aren't received by the " due date ''. Yet on my credit this account is closed and reflects adversely due to Synchrony reporting the 1 missed payment. How can an account be closed yet they are generating a billing statement for a none existent billing cycle/period and non due date? I need this company to be held accountable. They can not adversely affect my credit by reporting this account late by 30 days, then closing the account. Then afterwards for them to continue to bill and charge my account fees as they were when it was open. Completely insane and unconscionable.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Consumer Complaint: A Care credit representative enrolled me in autopay and told me that my monthly payment would be enough to pay off loan by end of promotional period. XX/XX/2023 I was charged about {$2500.00} in interest fees because they said my balance wasnt paid off in time. They charged interest on original loan amount multiplied by 24 months. That is almost 50 % interest. I never received a contract with the agreement from the doctors office or care credit. None of these terms were made clear and I never received anything in the mail saying my promotional balance was ending and I would be charged these fees. At some point they enrolled me in paperless billing and now they are telling me that a lot of times their emails go to the spam folder. I found no emails from care credit informing me of these terms. I tried calling and offered to pay the remaining balance in full and begged them to remove the fees. They said I am one month past the promotional period and they wouldnt remove the fees or offer any kind of solution. A care credit representative made me believe I was paying enough each month and I would accrue zero interest. She lied and no one will help me. My credit score took a huge hit and that is the only reason I even was made aware of this outrageous interest charge. This company is very deceptive and they are scamming people that desperately need medical care.
