Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: Sent letter end of XXXX to request account documentation to provide proof of debt. Never received. Then received notification that I was being sued by this debt collector, each time I call I get different information. Phone calls have been recorded, they are giving me the run around and refusing to provide proof of the debt. They say their phone lines are messed up or provide # s that dont work, they tell me to call back later. I have asked 3 times who the attorney is in the case and am told 3 different answers. I finally placed the debt into dispute.

I can't use my money for XXXX months without reason. Also employees of this bank are pressuring me to tell them bank account details ( XX/XX/XXXX phone call ) which is linked to that particular savings account, and all over the phone verbally and unsafe. The official bank already knows this information. Why are their employees asking for it again?

Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: To whom it may concern, I always pay every credit card I have in full every month. The card at issue is my Sam 's Club credit card through Synchrony Bank. On XX/XX/2022 I paid my balance of {$4000.00} in full for the prior month. The payment was accepted. Three months later the balance of {$4000.00} appeared back on my statement. I disputed this and was told that " on XX/XX/2022 the payment was returned unpaid by your bank ; therefore, the payment was reversed. '' I provided Synchrony bank with a copy of the front and back of the check with Synchrony 's stamp on it showing that it was received and cashed. I also provided copies of my bank statements showing the payment leaving my account and never returning. I asked Synchrony bank on multiple occasions to provide me with some kind of written evidence proving that the payment was returned by my bank. I have formally requested proof four times in writing and at least a dozen times over the phone. I am never given anything. Some of Synchrony bank 's responses simply say they can't locate any payments and other letters say that they found the payment but then it was reversed. They're not even consistent with the response they are giving me. At this point I have provided proof that the payment was made, that Synchrony Bank received the payment, that Synchrony Bank cashed the check, that the money left my account, and that the money never returned. Synchrony Bank has provided me with nothing. On a side note, in the middle of all of this I contacted my bank, XXXX XXXX and opened up a claim for them to investigate and they also confirmed that Synchrony Bank was paid and the money was never returned. I don't know what else to do at this point.

Consumer Complaint: Several weeks ago called for assistance with my Paypal credit card to have the available points applied as a credit against my account. I was told that this had to be completed online. Today, updated my account login information and attempted to redeem points. I had two chat sessions while logged in ( see attachments ) attempting to complete this process online. We were unsuccessful. The instructions by the second chat agent makes sense ; however, the field called " redeem '' is not available. When I requested HOW to do this since the redeem option is not there, she disconnected the chat. I then proceeded to have four conversations with " customer service '' associates where were unable to help. The last of these conversations I believe was a Synchony Bank Agent. They referred to the " redeem '' feature again- which is not on my login screen. They were then going to transfer me for the fifth time. At this point, it's been two hours getting the run around while attempting to accomplish something that should be easy and everyday. Will you please help me in getting my point applied against my accoun? My points are XXXX as shown on the attached statement. I pay a very high interest rate ( my own fault as I'm over the balance ) but Paypal not being willing to perform such a simple request seems unfair to the consumer. If they are not going to honor their committment, they should not offer them. They expect me to pay 31 % interest ; I expect them to give me my credits. My desire is to now cancel this card but I would like to wait until the points are applied so they don't just disappear. Thank you for recording this complaint. May it protect other cardholders in the future.

Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: I have autopay setup through Synchrony 's autopay system for my credit card account with synchrony bank. The auto payment was processed on the due date of XX/XX/XXXX. The funds withdrew from my checking account on XX/XX/2023. However I was marked as past due on the XXXX of XXXX and was accessed a late fee of {$30.00} at the close of business on the XXXX of XXXX. I received an alert from one of my account monitoring apps that I was charged a late fee on the XX/XX/2023. When I contacted Synchrony bank they said it was because I had modified my autopay after the statement closed and that a payment was due. They had no record of the payment that had already withdrawn from my checking account and made no attempt to investigate a payment issue. I was blamed for the payment not processing. After telling them multiple times that money had been withdrawn by Synchrony bank for the amount of the autopayment they advised that the payment will most likely post tomorrow ( XX/XX/2023 ) and the late fee would be roll off. After escalating this to an account manager and asked if there was a way to avoid getting a late fee, he stated there is no way and that autopay can only be scheduled to withdraw on the due date and that a late will be charged until the funds completely clear from the bank and is received. I have checked my credit card agreement that is included in my statement and no where does it state that a late fee is the policy until funds are full received and processed. My second issue is that according to the credit card agreement interest is calculated daily based on the balance of the account. The late fee is apart of my balance for 3 days. This means that it is accruing interest for 3 days. I have taken a screenshot of the late fee that is showing as a completed transaction as of XX/XX/2023 and have received zero assurances that this will not cost me interest. This policy which I have been advised I can not avoid by an account manager is an undue burden or at the very least deceptive.

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Problem accessing account
Consumer Complaint: I opened a CD account recently with Synchrony Bank and tried to register my account online at https : //auth.synchronybank.com/account/register site. After inputting my SSN and DOB, it took me to another screen ( https : //auth.synchronybank.com/account/initiate-otp ) asking me to confirm my identity. It listed an old phone number that I owned long ago. I couldn't select that so I selected the " My Phone number is not listed '' option and plugged in my current number. It threw me this error " Sorry, the selection you have made is invalid. Please select or enter a phone number with an appropriate delivery method. '' I tried the same number with different delivery methods ( both XXXX and Phone Call ), and it repeatedly threw the same error. The error repeated for my other active number as well. For testing purposes, I selected the old number listed in the dropdown and the OTP was sent successfully to that number. I called the bank 's customer service at XXXX and reported to them the issue. They said that they use a third party to confirm my identity and refused to disclose further details. They only offered to send me a code by snail mail, which they said will take 7-10 business days. My old phone number still exists in their system and I am afraid that I am susceptible to fraud because the OTPs are still being sent to the old number.
