Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Keep getting calls about your loan
Consumer Complaint: Although I set up an auto payment arrangement with Navient 2018, they neglected to withdraw the payments from my account on two occasions. I cancelled the arrangement, and was ( and still am ) manually paying the loan on the first and fifteenth of each month ( from their website ). Even though payments are made regularly, Navient still continues to call and harass my mom ( who was a co-signer on the student loan ). I have asked them to stop calling, and my parents have as well. But they still continue to call. The harassment is extremely frustrating, and they have downright told me they will not stop calling.

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I have been on a reduced payment plan since almost the beginning in XX/XX/2009. Every year the loans go up but I am not able to afford it. I can barely afford the {$900.00} payment now and it is ending. Navient has not been able to offer any kinds of assistance with lowering the payment or extending the years of repayment. When asked to fill out a monthly expense type report, I am coming in the negative because of my credit card debt I've gone into to pay for my loans and for daycare for my daughter.

Consumer Complaint: Multiple phone calls that are pre-recorded advising me to call their number back immediately. Phone calls start early and throughout the weekend day continue with no rhyme or reason. Calling the number back advises their offices are closed and to call a second number, which I will not. The calls just keep coming, over and over. It is quite obvious they are circumventing laws by demanding a call back but instead, route you to a different number than was calling.

Consumer Complaint: Once I started to repay my student loans I contacted to discuss options for loan repayment. I was told I qualified for a public service loan forgiveness so I was paying an amount based on my income. I am a XXXX XXXX working for a XXXX XXXX and XXXX. They said that I qualified and had to fill out a paper. I took all the steps I had to to get approved. I even paid {$600.00} to consolidate. Each year I renewed this. For 3-4 years I was making substantially less than my minimum because I was told that after X amount of payments the rest would be forgiven. each year I would speak with someone and re new this public service loan forgiveness plan but I was told something different pretty much every time and know one at Navient could tell me why I was told X. I kept getting the run around but assured that this was the best repayment plan for me. Well I dont qualify for forgiveness plan So here I am 6 years from graduation date and start of my repayment and could be a lot further ahead on my loans than I am all because of false information I was given by the company that handles a large amount of money for me!!! I am basically starting now paying what I shouldve been for the past 6 years! I could be more than half way done but instead Im basically starting fresh and have had 6 more years of interest accrued.

Consumer Complaint: I was a XXXX XXXX seeking student at XXXX XXXX University a few years back but abruptly was prevented from taking another course due to " not signing a letter that I accepted the private loan via Sallie Mae ''. When I signed up for the course I went online to to officially aquire student loans to attend XXXX school. Then I received a letter from XXXX stating that I can not take any more courses until I pay {$2000.00} in cash and then I can reapply but when I tried contacting the bursar office they claimed that I should have received a letter in the mail that needed my signature to approve the loan. Well at the time, I was living at my parents home helping pay their mortgage because the home was under forclosure. My parents ended up losing their home but I still never received a letter from the XXXX Bursar stating that I needed a signature for the loan. Now I am seeing a creditor asking for {$3400.00} which another XXXX dollars added on to the original amount owed. Can you say price gouging? There is an epidemic of teachers and former college students that went through the very same situation. Can you say scam?

Consumer Complaint: Accepted the original loan with Salliemae on XX/XX/XXXX while attending the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX, FL. I was told that I would be able to refinance the loan for a lower interest rate at any time, however the Salliemae and the current owner of the loan, Navient has never allowed me to do so. In XX/XX/XXXX I offered to settle the loan with {$20000.00} that I was able to save while on XXXX in the XXXX but was told that they do not settle for less than the full amount. Since then I have still been affiliated with the XXXX as a XXXX while working as an XXXX XXXX up until XX/XX/XXXX before I XXXX again, while still working on my XXXX which I just completed on XX/XX/XXXX. In early XX/XX/XXXX although I was working, I really struggled to make my monthly payments. I was threatened with my loan being reported as defaulted and losing my vehicle and being sued. I have never resisted repaying the loan due to negligence, I simply just cant pay an amount that I do not have. Only after 3 months of phone calls, did they finally offer me a reasonable repayment plan but only temporarily and after months of damaging credit which has hindered my ability to refinance with anyone else because of the delinquent history. Even while under the interest rate reduction program with automatic payments from my checking account, I have encountered issues with them not withdrawing the money. Specifically, in one instance after hurricane Irma and Maria, I called to inquire as to why they did not debit my account for the agreed monthly payment? I was told that the payment was waived because of a natural disaster declaration, but the next month when I called because I noticed the date had passed from when they would have charged my account, nothing was pulled. This time when I called, I was told that I had violated the terms of the program and had to pay a provide information to be accepted into another program which required a higher monthly payment. As a current XXXX, I am trying to find better employment to be able to meet my obligations, but currently I can not support what they are asking monthly for {$56000.00} loan gown 4 times the original amount with a 15.375 % interest rate. The school that I obtained the loan counseling through doesn't even exist anymore so there is no one available to challenge about the information they explained to me and now there is a different institution listed as the school where the original loan was acquired. I very seriously doubt that they have any interest in making things simpler for me, really just want to make more money on a smaller loan principle 15 years old. Any information that would help to just obtain reasonable terms at the least would be greatly appreciated. I understand that there are very little regulations on private loan servicers but I am a 13-year veteran still XXXX in the XXXX XXXX, with a family of XXXX that I have to support. I have every reason to comply and pay my debt, just difficulty doing it with varying terms.

Consumer Complaint: Navient placed 3 late payments on my credit reports. My loans were in deferment during this time which I explained to Navient. They responded by saying that they were not in deferment, but could not furnish me any reason or proof as to why they were not in deferment during that time. I returned to school the month that they started reporting my payments as late. I wrote them a good will letter and also stated that this must have been a mis-understanding and that it should be corrected.
