Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Don't agree with the fees charged

Consumer Complaint: I attended the vocational school from XXXX - XXXX. I was told that it was an accredited school so I took out a loan to cover the tuition. I believe the estimated cost of the school at the time was {$30000.00}. There were 8 semesters over the course of 2 years. I've only received one refund over the course of two years and it was only because I went down the registrar 's office to inquire. I received my only refund in my 8th semester. I graduated shortly afterward when I had heard the FBI had closed the school down for illegal activity. Some time had passed and I received a letter in the mail regarding a class action lawsuit. Unfortunately, by the time I discovered the letter I had missed the window to participate in the lawsuit. Not mention, when I tried to pursue another degree, I found out my degree from XXXX XXXX XXXX was not accepted by any college or university I applied to. I had to start completely over meanwhile, years of interest accrued for an education I feel has caused a questionable amount of debt

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: I called and spoke with Navient about my student loan. The interest rate keeps going up and it is getting to the point where it is almost too hard to pay. Plus, I will be out of work for a month starting next month. The lady said that I was not eligible for a rate reduction based on my income and didn't offer me anything except for a forbearance for up to 3 months. I asked her if interest would continue and she said yes. I asked her if my payment would go up at the end of the 3 months when repayment would start. She said yes. I explained to her that it was kind of pointless to do a forbearance if the loan amount was already getting too ridiculous to pay and it would go up which would make it even harder. She said I may could apply through the credit bureau 's at a later date, but at this time I didn't qualify. She did not explain why as well.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX I called Navient for the second time to attempt to resolve a delinquency and attempt to negotiate lower payments on my account for an extended term seeing as I could not afford to pay the full amount due. I had previously called the week of XX/XX/XXXX to change my regular payment date from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX. I received an email confirmation that the date had been scheduled and changed. For some reason the payment was never dispensed from my checking account. On XX/XX/XXXX I received an email saying that my loans were past due, upon checking my bank account I realized that the payment amount had never been subtracted directly leading to the delinquency. As for negotiating lower payments I had previously been enrolled in the rate reduction program since XXXX and had been able to successfully make payments to continue my enrollment in the program. Upon calling Navient I was informed that I have met the 36 month maximum and can no longer be enrolled in the rate reduction program. Then I asked for other options including graduated repayment plans which I was denied on the basis of my repayment having already been extended and mandatory forbearance that would of allowed me to make an affordable monthly payment based off of 20 % of my monthly gross income which I was also denied and informed that Navient has no such type of forbearance despite its presence on the Navient website. The only option Navient gave me was interest only payments for 6 months that capped at one year. After explaining that the interest amount due would still be unaffordable I was given no other other options to avoid delinquency and subsequent default that will happen starting in XXXX. An income based repayment plan and/or a no restriction rate reduction plan would allow me to make affordable monthly payments on my student loans to avoid default/delinquency but currently do not exist within Navient nor any other private student loan provider. This has created an extremely infinite and undue financial burden on myself and many others in similar financial situations despite my willingness to pay an amount that I can afford and previously have been.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Information belongs to someone else

Consumer Complaint: Sallie Mae/Navient listed me as a Co-Signer of a student loan and I never signed any paperwork. They told me that they wanted to list me as reference and they ended up listing me as a co-signer. The company name is Sallie Mae and the loan got sold to Navient. I have called multiple times a month and they dont do anything about the issue. I have been dealing with this issue for 13 years. I have sent a order to show cause that was issued by my attorney and they didnt answer to that document. This has caused my family and I financial hardship since it has been on my credit report and effected my debit to income.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Account information incorrect

Consumer Complaint: In the years of 2015 all my students loans was placed on a forbearance program. Navient is reporting it was not. On my credit and the attached documents Navient continue to report that I was 90 days late on XX/XX/2015 but made a payment on XX/XX/2015. How can you be 90 one month but not late or make a payment the month before. This is clearly a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: My name is XXXX XXXX, my complaint is in regards to the way my loan payments are applied. Navient is the service provider. I currently have 5 student loans with them, all set up on Auto draft payments. In addition to the monthly autodraft I make over payments. I specify which loan each over payment should be applied to. The problem is, every time I make an over payment it automatically advances my due date on that specific loan so that the next ( or several ) regular payments are not made ( other than the interest ). I have called, and Navient apparently has a setting where any over payment will NOT advance the due date. However, 100 % of my overpayments have advanced my due date. I have to call, speak to a representative, and I get the same story 100 % of the time. They see that it shouldnt have, they apologize, tell me they will send in a request to a back office to get the issue resolved. The issue has never been resolved. This has been going on for over a year. My account is setup to not have my due date advanced but it still advances. The next complaint I have is in regards to over payment applications that I did NOT specify where the payment should apply. Again, my account setting is to have ANY additional payment applied to the loan with the lowest balance. Again, not a single time has this ever happened. However, the unspecified overpayment gets applied across all loans unless I call to have it reapplied. The resolution to the problem will be to have my loan payments apply the correct way.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: I have about {$44000.00} in federal student loans from Navient, who somehow found me a suitable debtor at the age of XXXX. This is between two loans, at 9.25 % and 9.75 % interest. At such a rate, I have a lot of difficulty making monthly payments that will actually take care of the principal, even when I am working and making a decent amount of money. The monthly payments came to about {$300.00} a month. Keep in mind, that is just the amount of private student loans ... I also have {$64000.00} in federal student loans I need to take care of. It's a long story but essentially I was ill-informed when I was taking out these loans, and I made a mistake in getting them. Well, back in XXXX I lost my job, but still kept making payments for two months like I was supposed to. However, in XXXX, I realized I would have trouble making future payments, and so I contacted Navient on XX/XX/XXXX. I told her that I was driving for XXXX, a XXXX-style company in XXXX, and that I was barely making enough to afford rent, gas, and groceries. Seriously, I was hardly making anything, and could not get any help from my parents ( who owe about as much as I do ). And yet, when I call the woman at Navient, she raises my payments to {$310.00} a month. I'm making way less money, so she wants *more* money. Makes sense, right? I ask to forebear them for a month or two while I look for work, but she tells me that that would make the amount come due, and capitalize the interest. I didn't want that to happen, as it would make my situation even worse, but I couldn't even afford the XXXX payments. With absolutely zero sympathy in her voice, she asks if I want to connect a debit account. I told her yes, but I was unable to cover the XXXX payment, and might barely be able to cover it in time to be late for the XXXX payment. They really need to work with me on this. Either lower my interest rate to a manageable degree ( something like 3.8 %, which my car loan was ), or let me forebear them for another 30 or 60 days until I get another job. I need help, and Navient is simply unwilling to help me.
