Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I had automatic debit for my loan, yet I was charged monthly late fees. I also applied for loan forgiveness, and was told I would receive administrative forbearance ; however, the payments continued. It got worse, Navient deducted {$220.00} on XX/XX/19 and again on XX/XX/19, which hurtled me into a financial landslide. Finally, the discontinued autopsy, after I demanded it. I demanded they return my extra payment, and they to me it would have to be approved, which would take 2 weeks. Meanwhile, my stress level has increased, and I do not know how to stop their trickery.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Account information incorrect

Consumer Complaint: I took out a loan with Navient in XX/XX/2013 to attend XXXX University in XXXX, IL. My parents took it out for me to help my credit score for future events in my life. The loan was only for around {$2500.00} I believe. My parents then paid off the full amount immediately after for around {$2700.00}, whatever was quoted to them. Then just a few months ago, after 5 years of hearing nothing, thinking it was long in the past, I get a report from the credit bureau that my account with Navient was delinquent, 120 days past due and that I owed XXXX dollars in interest ... I had no clue of this for the last 5 years. There is no way I would leave XXXX dollars left on my loan like that. ( Apparently it had grown to XXXX from late fees ) My parents paying the {$2700.00} was an attempt to pay them off. Thats what they were quoted and paid. I feel cheated by them. And now since then I have looked into it and thats what they have done to thousands and thousands of people. Ive tried to call them and get this figured out and its impossible to get through to anyone and when you finally do its pointless. The wanted me to get online into my account to get all the information there. But I realized thats a trick of theirs as well. In the fine print you agree to things that Im sure help them get by with it. Like you agree that everything we provide is accurate and true. I didnt feel comfortable with that obviously. So I told them on the phone I wanted a copy sent to my email of the payment history and balance history. So after 24 hours I get the email and once again it says, log in to your account to view your documents you asked for. I am not going to fall for their tricks. I just want a fair report and honesty. Im currently in the middle of trying to refinance my home, my credit score was XXXX and it was going to drop my payments roughly 200 dollars. Now I cant. It got dropped 90 points. All of this has cost me so much time and money that I will never get back.

Consumer Complaint: I have been making payment on a student loan that I have with Navient starting XX/XX/2012 - active /still paying {$270.00}, which was set up by their loan advocacy representative, after talking to several representatives none of them never told me that the payment was going toward interest on the loan which the loan is {$39000.00} and that it a temporary low payment, now I have reach my limit on how many times they would lower the payment, which is going to make the payment now {$440.00}. I am XXXX years old retired I have tried working several jobs part time 20 hours a week, but due to standing and sitting issue I have with body, make its very difficult and painful for me, because I have a XXXX injury and XXXX in both feet, knee and hand, the only income I have is social security retirement in the amount of XXXX a month, they send me a form to completed by doctor saying I am XXXX, my doctor refuse to complete the form because they didnt take me off work and I am not receiving XXXX benefits. Consumer Complaint: A company keeps calling my distant relatives weekly harassing them by calling early hours of the morning trying to reach me. I've called them to ask them to stop and they continue to do so. I have taken down their contact information and I have screenshots of the texts from my relative complaining to me about it. I would like it to stop, as I understand it, it is illegal to contact 3rd parties for something of this nature.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I've recently tried to dispute this information concerning late payments being reported to the credit reporting agencies in XXXX, XXXX. I've tried several times to get them to explain how my student loan went from Deferment to Forbearance less than 2 months. Deferment last one year until renewed. This concerns me because Navient Dept. of Education Loan servicing has a very bad issue with listening to complaints and communicating with customers. All they have done is justify how the issue occurred but do not explaining why it occurred. The reason I believe is that no one wants to be held accountable for why this mistake occurred and who is responsible. I was not aware of the mistake until I received the information from Navient which I have attached. Back in XXXX of XXXX is when I found out that my loan had been in forbearance. That is when I put it back in deferment which I qualify for.The next month I called Navient in concern of the late payments that was reported on my credit report and the representative tried to get me to put it back in to forbearance and I asked why when I'm already in deferment. I was very confused and it was very concerning to me, so I did some research and found that there is no interest charges when your loan is in Deferment but when it is in forbearance, there is in fact interest charges applied to your loan. So this leaves questions and it explained why they would try and do this and why the mistake was made in XX/XX/XXXX and question if it was a mistake or done purposely. I am a XXXX veteran and I have never established a payment plan do to my XXXX which I explained to them that I'm in the process of getting approved for unemployability and getting my loans forgiven because I have not worked or can not work. My question is why Navient would take advantage of me as a veteran and my condition buy trying to apply interest charges and taking my student loan from Deferment to forbearance less than 2 month with out any communication with me explaining why. I think the individuals responsible for this issue should be held accountable because I'm concerned that I'm not the only one this has happened to. This has ruined my credit and I have suffered from by there mistake.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I have been making extra payments on my loans to get them paid off. I was originally paying from my checking account with electronic payments. I could see when the check was cashed and that it did not post for several days after the check was cashed. I called and spoke to someone to find out why as this was costing me interested in significant amounts, which of course slows down the repayment. I was told if I paid through the Navient website on their app it would post the day I made the payment, eliminating this problem. Now I am finding that my payments still do not post for a couple of days after I make the payment through their website, again costing me additional interest charges. I called today XX/XX/19 to find out why this was happening and was told that this was just the way it was, that they could not promise me anything, that it takes time to process. I run a business and this is not correct bookkeeping. Payments should be posted the day they are received and no addtional interest should accrue on the money that was paid. I can not get help with this through Navient!!!! this is wrong and expoloitative.

Consumer Complaint: I was with Sallie Mae in 2007 when I attended XXXX XXXX. I didn't not anything about Navient taking over for Sallie Mae until I seen it on the News. I have asked Navient to send me documentation stating that I authorized them to take over my loans and I would continue to pay them instead of Sallie Mae. I have sent letters and talked to customer service reps and all they send me are the loans from Sallie Mae.

Subissue: Threatened to sue you for very old debt

Consumer Complaint: Date : XX/XX/19 Amount due : XXXX Navient Account Representitve : XXXX # XXXX I called in to speak with a representative to learn more about my options so I can come back to take my next steps before my deadline of XX/XX/19. The phone call immediately became hostile when I was threatened with an account closure and lawsuit if I didn't agree to the first set of terms they provided to me. I repeatedly asked him to not threatened me and my phone call was simply to collect information so I can get my accounting straightened out in order to make the proper payments. He also minimized and had 0 empathy towards my current financial situation to the point where I felt belittled. His whole agenda was to get me to agree to the 1st set of terms which I eventually did, however, I called back the next day and learned about a new set of terms which XXXX was reluctant to inform me on. XXXX withheld information from me that would have benefited my financial situation as a father of XXXX and XXXX in the XXXX XXXX who is underpaid, just to check off one of his boxes as a successful call. In the end, I agreed to the 2nd set of terms that another rep provided to me. I am truly disgusted with the customer service and lack of empathy and valuable information XXXX withheld. It caused me stress and fear that I couldn't feed my kids that very night because of the 1st set of terms I agreed upon. XXXX took this call very personal and was condescending during the whole call and lost all sight of his training. These tactics need to be reviewed and dealt with at a high level. No one should be treated this way.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: I have been paying Salliemae, now Navient since 2007. The initial loan was for {$21000.00} and after it was sold to Navient it has now ballooned to me owing them an additional {$36000.00}. I did one semester in XXXX - I did not finish because I realized how much they were charging per semester that was not revealed up front. I have repaid Navient, to date {$30000.00}. They charge me a 12 % interest rate and after I called to ask why wasn't more of my payments being applied to the principle they said I have to call each time to speak to a rep to ask that my payment be charged to the principle. On the website they do not give you that option which is very unscrupulous because XXXX and XXXX both allow payment to be applied on your interest or principle.
