Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: From XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXXI was on and off of work mainly due to illness and XXXX or just difficulty finding a job. I discussed these issues with Navient and they suggested forbearance or deferment. Every 3-6 months I would get an email that simply stated type y to extend your forbearance/deferment. I had absolutely no idea that interest would pile up and I would end up owing more - they made it sound like it was easy and no big deal. I have 2 loans. One started at XXXX and it is now at XXXX, the other is lower but I still owe over 160k and I went to school for XXXX XXXX! I am only paying about {$60.00} off the principal every month - I have no idea what to do - Im going to die with this loan. I discussed this with Navient and basically I was told I should have known better.

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: All of my student loans are on auto-pay with the option set to assign any overpayments to the principal. I've contacted Navient multiple times regarding the my loan payments not being allocated properly which results in me paying more in interest and not paying down my principal as it should. When I first contacted Navient about this issue, they stated this was caused because my loans were all in billing groups and therefore causing some loans not to receive payments. I asked that all my loans be separated so payments would be allocated properly. Still, Navient continues to apply my payments improperly by moving my due date instead of allocating overpayments to the loan principal, resulting in additional interest payments.

Consumer Complaint: I have been paying off each of my loans for Navient early. I get to my second to last loan to pay off and my remaining balance was in the $ 800s with an 6.8 % interest XX/XX/XXXX. Out of no where at XXXX on Saturday XX/XX/XXXX I received an email stating, Congratulations your deferment is approved. Confused, I called them later that day to find out how and the office was closed til Monday so I called on Monday XX/XX/XXXX. I was told my loan was now in Deferment because I was in school in XXXX. I said, but I was only in school for two months and then I graduated, how can a loan go into deferment 4 years later. The rep said she didnt know so I said well I dont need it, if you look back over this year I have been paying off my loans so take it off because it says my loans interest will capitalize. She said okay. Two days later XX/XX/XXXX XXXX I get an email stating the terms of my loan have changed and my new balance is now a little over {$1000.00}. I called them for an explanation. I was told two different things. One I was told I didnt pay interest on my loans and when I refuted and told them I have my 1098 and statements to prove otherwise they came back with a second reason. They then said XXXX now XXXX was suppose to put my loans on deferment and didnt so when they bought it they thought it was on deferment but their records showed other wise so they put it on now and when I requested to remove the deferment it charged them to renegotiate my loan terms ( without warning or explanation by them by the way ). I was confused and asked to speak with a supervisor and they tried to give me the first reason again and I explained to them it didnt make sense so then I asked to speak to her supervisor because the lady said it looks weird to her too. The Operations Supervisor told me that it wasnt suppose to increase that much and all she could do is research it. So I asked her to escalate, she put me on hold and then came back and said something did go wrong and she would fix it. Well, it havent been fixed and the plan is to pay this off this week but I cant because its {$200.00} more and if I pay the amount it was then Ill still have a {$200.00} balance. Navient deferred my loan unexpectedly without reason to get more money out of me since I paid the other loans off early. The amounts are similar to what they were suppose to make with the others if I would have paid them according to schedule, but instead I paid early. They keep giving me different reasons for the increase in balance and monthly owed.

Consumer Complaint: Sadly, NAVIENT is a very corrupt company that uses deceptive acts and nefarious means to obtain information about consumers, as well as collect on debts NOT OWED TO THEM. NAVIENT has identified themselves as a debt collector. The interesting thing is that I can not recall signing any contracts or agreements with NAVIENT, or being a signer on any contracts with them. I have written to NAVIENT multiple times asking for the ORIGINAL instrument of indebtness where I entered into an agreement with NAVIENT and they have ignored my requests, yet they continue to state that I owe them money on an account that I DO NOT HAVE WITH THEM. This has been ongoing for over a year. They are reporting this erroneous information to the credit bureaus and refuse to delete it. When I disputed it with the three credit bureaus and had it successfully deleted due to lack of proof provided by NAVIENT they reinserted it months later without giving notice ( in clear violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act ). When I dispute again, the credit bureaus REFUSE to even investigate unless I submit additional proof with my dispute although NAVIENT has not provided me with ANYTHING proving this alleged debt so how am I to prove I do not owe it when they cant? The best part is now their legal department is threatening to possibly sue me, claiming that they made multiple attempts to get in touch with me another interesting accusation since I have written them multiple letters that they have simply ignored, disputed this, asked them about this alleged debt, and I still have not seen an original document to date.

Consumer Complaint: I make an over payment of {$50.00} to {$100.00} per month. Then I started getting statements that read as this, example - received a statement on XX/XX/XXXX, You have {$0.00} due XX/XX/XXXX but current amount due is {$230.00} by XX/XX/XXXX. I made a payment as if I had a payment due in XXXX to continue paying ahead. I received by XX/XX/XXXX statement. Again, {$0.00} due XX/XX/XXXX but current amount due is {$230.00} by XX/XX/XXXX. I again made a payment as if I had a payment due for XXXX. I received a statement for XX/XX/XXXX, now it says I have a payment due {$230.00} due XX/XX/XXXX. I should be paid ahead. Are my extra payments going to principal. I feel that I am over paying and they are misrepresenting my money going to my student loan. I spent 45 minutes on the phone explaining this. He first told me that I was looking at the statements incorrectly. Finally at the end, he stated that my next payment isn't actually due until XX/XX/XXXX and he asked if I wanted my over payment to the principal. What is going on here?

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX, I began XXXX school but was working full time. Navient automatically placed my XXXX loans into deferment when I began XXXX school without my permission. I contacted them in either XXXX or XXXX upon noticing this and asked them to take them out of deferment, as I was working full-time and able to pay them. I was advised by the customer service representative that I should not do this and that the loans should always be kept in deferment while in school. I listened to them as I believed they knew best being the loan servicer. I was not notified that keeping my loans in deferment would substantially increase the interest that I now owe on them. I believe that the company misled me without properly informing me and am now left drowning in even more student loan debt.

Consumer Complaint: I don't have all the dates, but I have received a student loan from sallie Mae which then turned into The Department of Navient. Also I was making payments and when the total was not being decreased also a representative explained that I should apply for forbearance, what I did not know is that this was making matters worst because this was adding on more debt it was like I was starting the loan all over again. Also I noticed that the department of Navient is on my credit report twice. .They call me also email me telling me that I should reapply for another forbearance loan.
