Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I sent many letters to Navient asking them to explain the horrendous amount of student debt and interest rate since 2017. I am not sure if I actually owe Navient any student loan debt. I am not sure if the student loans are mine or if the student loans are private loans or federal loans. I asked several time for a copy of the original student loan contract/ original indebtedness with my signature on it. I am confused and really don't understand what's going on. I have recently been going through financial hardship and I am struggling just to paid my rent, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX cell phone, buy food weekly and pay for XXXX XXXX XXXX cost. I am going through a divorce and possible alimony and child support and struggling with debt and Navient is trying to drive me into a high repayment plans and they can not simple provide me with detail information so I can verified the debt and find out if I actually own anyone money, or what company I owe money to. I am stress and loosing hair. When I checked/ reviewed my credit report on XXXX XXXX there are 12 student loan accounts. 4 out of 12 accounts was from the department of education and according to my credit report memo they was collection accounts and was permanently assigned to government, assigned to attorney, collection agency or credit grantors internal collection department. I am confused. According to XXXX XXXX credit report comments 8 out of 12 student loans was transferred to another lender or claim purchased/ sold. I am confused and stressed out. Navient can not give me any clear answers. I am just trying to get my life in-order and hopefully after my divorce move to a better environment so I can build a relationship with my son. But, I can not do anything with these derogatory marks on my credit report.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't temporarily delay making payments

Consumer Complaint: I reached out to Navient on XX/XX/2019. I stated that I'm getting bills for repayment when I've been a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX for the past several years and that I'm nearly done with my degree. They stated that I can no longer get forbearance but I could pay {$150.00} to get deferment. I told them that I make XXXX/yr with a XXXX XXXX child and I don't have any extra money to pay to hold my student loans while I finish school and neither does my dad who is the cosigner because he's a XXXX vet on a fixed income. I also explained that I have to leave my job soon to do my student XXXX and wouldn't have income at all. They refused to do anything to help and that they'll just keep going into collections.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: Called the lender as I am the co-borrower on this loan and I have been making the payments for over 4 years. As a co-borrower I have limited options with this loan. My call today was in response to an email from the lender stating that if having difficulty making payments to contact them, the very first thing offered was " FOREBEARANCE '' that's what took this loan from {$18000.00} to {$23000.00} courtesy of the lender and borrower acting together. As it turns out the lender will not lower the current APR roughly ( 13 % ) and the only option is to refinance this loan with another lender unfortunately the borrowers Credit Score is below 600 and he suffered a XXXX in XX/XX/2019 and is unable to work. The lender in question is NAVIENT

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I took out a loan with XXXX XXXX in 2008 for a school named XXXX. The school went bankrupt and I was never able to use what I learned. Navient took over my loan, I have been paying on this loan for 11 years and nothing has gone down. This year alone I was sending them XXXX a month and they were just adding it all to interest, nothing went to principal. When I asked for the paperwork explaining why, they never send it to me, my loan went from XXXX to XXXX and it doesn't go down. When I called them about he school going out of business they asked me for all the paperwork to see if they could lower the student loan or help me. I sent the paperwork in three times, no ne seems to find it or know what is going on. I want to know why is it that if I pay extra they applied it to interest instead of principal.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Account status incorrect

Consumer Complaint: This is the second time I have filed a complaint. XXXX was contacted and I received ANOTHER reporrt # XXXX with so called " results ''. They give ZERO explanation as to HOW these disputes are verified. I have sent them on three different occassions ALL the bankruptcy paperwork showing that items have been DISCHARGED 2 years ago and that I am NO LONGER responsible for debt, including NAVIENT and NAVIENT is well aware because they have reported it as such on XXXX and XXXX and yet XXXX CONTINUES to allow this to be reported as an OPEN AND ACTIVE ACCOUNT and THAT is NOT CORRECT. I WANT THIS FIXED! I AM SICK of asking, I am sick and tired of doing my part and sending all the paperwork and being IGNORED!!!! I have done EVERYTHING that you and the FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT have said to do and I get NO WHERE! I WANT THIS GONE NOW!!!! I am going to continue to fight this as long as it takes until SOMEONE does SOMETHING to make it RIGHT! PLEASE take this seriously and do not allow a company like XXXX to get away with report FALSE information. IT IS UNFAIR!!!

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: Since XX/XX/XXXX I have been paying on two Navient private loan accounts over the amount of {$200.00} each month. XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX Navient reported me 60 days pass due and dropped my credit score over 100 points both times. Each time I was told it was because it has been a year and I no longer qualified for the program. Prior to this happening, I received no warning or renegotiation phone call or email. Moving forward, I continued to pay on time payments, even after loosing my job only to receive another 60 day pass due payment in XX/XX/XXXX ( score dropped 53 more points ). I contacted Navient and ask them why did they report a 60 day pass due when I have a proof of payment on XX/XX/XXXX. They could not provide me with that answer. I continued to ask more questions about my loan and pay off only to find out that none of the money I had paid the last two years were going towards my loan. I then asked the representative where was the money being credited and she told me I was on a discounted program for people who can not afford to pay the full loan payments to avoid collections. At that point, I asked how much would I have to pay for the full payment towards my loan and she quoted me an amount that was less than {$50.00} more than the amount i was paying. At that point, I asked her to switch me to the program that actually pays on the loan. I made payment arrangements for the end of the month bc I get paid once a month at the end of the month. My next payment was taking out my account XX/XX/XXXX with no problem. In the month of XXXX, I noticed that Navient tried to withdraw the payment out my account XX/XX/XXXX, which was not the date that was discussed therefore it was rejected. I called Navient and ask them why was the payment pulled two days early and I was told they cant pull payments at the end of the month. It will have to be between XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX. I explained to the representative what was previously discussed and they told me there was nothing they can do. I then told her to just set the payments on the XXXX of the month. That way it will still be close to my pay period. The representative told me no, she was sorry she cant offer me that program anymore and that I will have to pay 3 months of on time payments before they can set me back on that program. In the meantime while I am paying the payments those 3 months they are going still report me late to the credit bureaus. I immediately ask to speak to the supervisor from then I requested an ombudsman. The ombudsman told me he will review the phone calls and let me know what was actually discussed. The ombudsman never returned my call. Instead he left a note in the account saying he tried to contact me but the phone number on file was incorrect. Even the representative that read his notes agreed that that was bogus reporting bc that was the number we were talking on and the same number I have had throughout the entirety of the loan. I then requested to get the audio calls as proof for myself and I was told that only an attorney can request it in the most condescending way. Of course they assumed that I would not be able to afford an attorney and will not fight this but they have destroyed my life. I have been denied for a teacher next door mortgage loan, I have also had a credit card that have been paid off for 3 months to close the account and completely damage my credit utilization on my credit that o worked so hard for. I refuse to pay them until they erase those late payments that I did not deserve. I am desperately in need of help. My score is going down each month and they know there is nothing I can do about it even if I make a payment. Navient is bullies people and they are not in business to help their clients and not mention the poor customer service.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: I signed up for income-based repayment and have provided all the necessary information. I have been on a salary for 5 plus years and nothing has changed, yet they increase my payment every three months. Navient will not work with me and will not listen to when I tell them just because I am a business owner, my K1 form for taxable income for a business profit IS NOT income that I actually receive I just have to pay the taxes on it. Then one loan with the co-signer ( XXXX XXXX ) filed bankruptcy and in her bankruptcy paperwork, it had navient in there as one of the loans that would be paid off through payments received from bankruptcy. Navient repeatedly incorrectly applied those payments to my other loan that she was not the cosigner on. The bankruptcy paperwork indicated that it would pay that loan off in full and it did not. I can not seem to make them understand that I have no change in income and that what the business makes DOES NOT change what I bring home monthly. I feel like going to college was the biggest mistake of my life.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: I have private loans from Navient. I am currently 9 months XXXX about to go on leave from my job as a XXXX in a XXXX and will be getting a small income from XXXX until I do find child care for my baby. They are unable to help me with any type of financial hardship. Both cosigners are older and only making enough social security to support themselves. They wont help me with any type of payment unless I make payments of {$510.00} each month which is INTEREST ONLY! I can barley pay my bills to live right now and they will be sending me to collections if I don't pay this month. I just don't make this type of money and it is impossible for me to make this type of payment just for a private student loan. I need help!!!

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I currently have a private Navient Loan. The loan started with a balance of XXXX and even paying it up to now it has gone to close to 40k. I have been trying to make payments that I can afford to pay and they just want to keep on putting me on forbiddance because they want me to make high payments over {$400.00} per month and the interest to grow more. I have said no to forbiddance and there one year repayment that lowers down the payment for one year and the following it goes double plus all the interest grown. Not only did the school closed at the end of our term but failed to issue our diplomas. Which I have complaint for years as well. The school was kitchen academy in XXXX Ca. I contacted navient back in XXXX of this year and reached out to different people including supervisors requesting a settlement for the original amount to pay off and they declined it. They said they can do only 90 % of the current amount. I have tried to negotiate with them several times in different ways but it's has made me feel more like they just want to hurt me than help me. Last time I spoke to them I told them I gave up. They can't lower my payments nor settle then there was nothing I could do anymore. Now they harrassed me and even contact family members and up to calling my job asking for me. This situation has gotten too far. I have a federal loan that I have been paying and have never have had issues with it but Navient who used to be Sallie Mae just wants to turn you down to increase their loan amount therefore you will never finish paying them.
