Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: The student loan servicer, Navient did not inform me of the proper steps and necessary processes to set up PSLF correctly. In particular, they pushed me to take forbearance rather than use income-driven repayment ( like REPAYE ) and likely have a payment of {$0.00} -- that's XXXX DOLLARS! -- per month based on my income and *still* have that count as a qualifying PSLF payment. They did not explain this adequately and clearly with respect to the fact that this payment plan could've lowered my monthly payment to {$0.00} for several years based on my household income. Due to the lack of explanation by Navient, who has a responsibility to properly educate their customers on their options and the consequences thereof, my husband and I will likely have to keep paying on my loans when they should be forgiven in accordance with the 10-year timeframe of PSLF. I believe most of my loan sequences ought to be forgiven by this year. Due to Navient 's error, I will have to keep paying despite my years of exemplary service to the public as a XXXX XXXX. Moreover, I have been trying for a long time now to see the notes from my own record with Navient. This request has been repeatedly refused by Navient. I should be able to access my own record to review my interactions with this company. In addition, due to the fact that they did not mention the need for consolidation of some of my loans for PSLF, I did not start the PSLF process for some loans until later than I would have if I had proper and complete information. Finally, with respect to Navient steering me toward forbearance, while it may be easier for the company in terms of paperwork, it capitalizes interest and INCREASES my total debt. As a result of Navient 's predatory practices, I have been harmed.

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: Key Info : There are 6 loans in total Three loans have a co-signer, who is my Father, XXXX XXXX I pay the 3 loans that don't have a co-signer via automated payments through my bank My father pays the other three through automated payments through his bank Key People : XXXX XXXX, payee. XXXX XXXX, cosigner XXXX XXXX, Member of the Office of the Consumer Advocate XXXX XXXX, Employee ID XXXX, Supervisor in Private Collections For the better part of a decade, our loan payments have been misapplied by Navient Billing, resulting in phone calls, voicemails, letters and emails notifying us that we are past due, deliquent and at risk of default and collections. I have been working with the Office of the Consumer Advocate to try to determine why and how the payments are continuously misapplied. We have been repeatedly told that we are sending payments to the wrong address ( despite these payments being sent electronically ), that they are going to the wrong account numbers ( these are supplied by Navient, and as of today we discovered that the acct # my parents use is incorrect. We were never notified that it changed ). The account number issue was brought up by XXXX XXXX today, XX/XX/XXXX. The originally account numbers aka loan group numbers, were set up over 5 years ago. We have also checked and verified that all mailing addresses are correct. XXXX XXXX has recently been assigned to managing my account without my notice and without explanation. This began on XX/XX/XXXX. She has consistently failed to respond to emails and voicemails and does not answer her phone when called. She has failed to consistently reapply payments in a timely manner, resulting in renewed threats of default, despite numerous notes in our account that billing and collections is not to contact my parents at the very least. We are consistently given changing information. No call to the Office of the Consumer Advocate provides the same information, and it is difficult to get responses at all. They claim repeatedly that they have " investigated '' the account, but have not ever produced findings to explain why this keeps happening, or how they will resolve it. I have filed a formal complaint with their office, and have been told they will respond in 2-3 business days. They are unlikely to do so based on their current behaviors. This will result in a daily complaint filed with the CFPB until this is resolved in finality. We are currently unsure that we can trust that the total loan amount we owe is accurate because payments have to be reapplied so often, late fees are applied then removed, and all of this effects the actual accrued interest on the loans. My suspicion is that we will likely be paying far more than we have to due to miscalculated interest and misapplied payments. Due to all of the above issues, we do not receive accurate and correct billing statements, and have not for many years. I have repeatedly asked for updated billing statements after payments are reapplied, and have been promised them but never received them. When I follow up on this, I am told " we don't do that. ''

Consumer Complaint: I have 12 student loans that are serviced by Navient. On my credit report it shows 90 days late for 12 accounts. As you can imagine this has very adversely effected my credit score and future endeavors. It shows 90 days late in XXXX, XXXX and XXXX of XXXX. These payments were to have been in " in school deferral '' as I was enrolled in XXXX XXXX University at XXXX and also accepted into XXXX College finishing my XXXX certificate. There was not a 6 month lapse in my enrollment during any of these transfers. I finished one semester in XXXX of XXXX ( attached statement for the classes ) and was enrolled in XXXX College to pursue my XXXX XXXX by XXXX of XXXX. I have contacted this company several times in XXXX ( XXXX, XXXX and again in XXXX ) and also in XXXX of XXXX concerning this matter. These should not be reported as late pays on my credit report, I was enrolled in school and also well within the 6 month deferral period before I was transferred. I asked for these to be removed and sent requests via dispute the credit agencies, but yet nothing was done and these are currently very adversely effecting my credit score. The agency when I was done with school ( between my bachelors and certification, and also the year I took off to have my son ) would push me into deferrals when I was attempting to do an IBR plan so that I could begin making headway on this debt and after several attempts I am now in an IBR plan. I request again that these negative reports are removed from my credit report on ALL 12 accounts. I do have dated acceptance letters from the college ( XX/XX/XXXX for XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX for acceptance into the fast track program at XXXX College ) I also have a statement dated XX/XX/XXXX for the payment of my fall semester ( XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX ) to XXXX. I request that this be removed from my credit report as late pays and adjusted as current for these time periods as accordingly to the facts of the matter. I also request that any late fees be adjusted to the loans for this time period. As stated I requested IBR for several years as to get started on payment of these loans and was told to do deferral instead, and now I am five years after first requesting it in an IBR plan and when running my credit for a home purchase discover these late pays that were incorrectly reported and again are VERY adversely effecting my credit score and future. Thank you so much for an assistance in this matter and please let me know if I need to forward any of the information.

I paid for school that lost accreditation and had other legal issues that halted my education. I cant get or transfer any of the credits earned. I have requested consolidation of these loans so that the correct amounts are included and the forgiveness is applied for the years mentioned and the amounts included above.

Consumer Complaint: I have verbally and in written form, asked Navient to only contact myself regarding private student loans, and only on my personal phone number. I have sent a letter, via certified mail. Navient continues to harass my relatives, calling multiple times per day, calling numbers I have never provided, calling acquaintances of relatives.

Subissue: Don't agree with the fees charged
Consumer Complaint: I set up an Income Driven repayment plan in XX/XX/2019 and have made two payments with the adjusted amounts. When I went to pay my bill in XXXX, the Navient website no longer shows my adjusted amount, but the full amount I would be paying without the IDR plan. When I called, I was told this is a new thing they are doing and the larger amount reflects fees, even though I am not supposed to be paying late fees. This is not noted at all on my account and now there is no evidence of my income driven repayment plan on my account. I was told to go ahead and make the payments I had been and there would be no penalties, however, the website is going to say I am late on my payment. Why isn't Navient required to show me my income driven repayment information on my online billing?? This makes it more difficult to accurately and timely pay my bill. My adjusted amount is {$190.00} and now I am being told my bill is {$510.00}.

Consumer Complaint: Navient is claiming that I did not fill out an income based application, which I did. I filled out the application in XXXX 2019. As a result, my account has been assessed with fees and they refuse to acknowledge that I sent in my application. The income based repayment program grants consumers lower payment options and relieves consumers of their debt after twenty five years. I believe that Navient claims that they have " misplaced or loss '' the filled out application not only to add fees to consumer accounts but to ensure that the clock does not start on the consumer being able to relieve their debt in twenty five years. I filled out an application in XXXX 2019 that was accepted and approved by Navient. However, they have claimed that they do not have it and even if I send them the completed application they agreed to, that it is no guarantee that my account would be back dated to the date of the application. This is unfair and it seems illegal since the application is a legally binding document.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: Over the course of this loan 's repayment period, any and all requests for adjustment of loan repayment were denied. This included requests for a transfer to an income-driven repayment plan. Eventually, the total monthly loan payment of over {$1500.00} was unable to be paid. After this occurrence, while discussing repayment option, I once again asked about repayment options - specifically, income-driven repayment. I was informed that they did, in fact, have such a program, but since I had posted a late payment, I was ineligible. In conclusion, it appears that the loan servicer lied about repayment options until I had lost the ability to apply for such programs due to the amount of the monthly payment. The monthly payment remains in excess of {$1500.00}.
