Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Problem with customer service
Consumer Complaint: I have a Federal Parent Plus Loan that is currently being serviced by Navient. On XX/XX/2020, I contacted Navient to inquire about lowering my monthly AutoPay amount by {$60.00} as part of family budgeting changes due to the current COVID-19 related financial crisis. I owe about {$25000.00} and was paying XXXX monthly which resulted in a total repayment in about 39 months of a bit in excess of {$28000.00}. I was told by the customer service representative that they could not make the requested change, but calculated a new repayment schedule of {$370.00} a month for 24 months, followed by two terms of payments in excess of {$1100.00} per month that pushed repayment out into XXXX, and would have a cost to me in excess of {$180000.00}. I explicitly told the representative that I did not want this option ( multiple times during the recorded conversation ) and to just leave the account as it currently existed and after a few demographic questions ( address, phone, and email verfication ), ended the call. The morning of XX/XX/2020, I received an email notification from Navient that my loan payment terms had changed. Turns out, they were changed to the proposed and rejected new payment schedule from the prior day, without my consent. I called customer service at Navient and complained about the situation, requesting that my loan payment terms be set back to what they were prior to the XX/XX/2020 call. Representative offers a couple of payment plans that were close to, but not exactly what I had had before. Consequently, I asked to speak to his supervisor. The representative put me on hold, and came back after a few minutes, without the supervisor, asking about would I accept one of the new payment plans and that he would internally register an inquiry about how this happened. Again, I asked to speak to the supervisor as what I wanted was to have the account put back to how it was previously. Representative said he would connect me with the supervisor and put me on hold. After a few minutes, he returned and stated that the account was set back to the original payment plan. I never did get to talk to the supervisor. While my situation was rectified, I have concerns that Navient representatives are making unauthorized changes to repayment plans, resulting in longer repayment terms and more interest expense for customers. Also, the fact that I never was able to talk to a supervisor and lodge my complaint seems to me to be indicative of a pattern of pervasive dishonest and misleading behavior on the part of Navient.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2020 - Navient student loan company. Their representative " spoofed '' my employer 's phone number to reach me this morning. I believed it was my employer calling me since we are working from home due to the coronavirus. When I answered, I was shocked to realize it was Navient. The rep said, " Oh we got you now! So you are *my name*! Now confirm your date of birth so we can get started! '' They have been harassing me again about my private student loan and their aggression has only increased. I can't pay it and I've run out of forbearance options and lowering the payments won't help either. My XXXX daughter has XXXX XXXX and requires XXXX XXXX to prevent XXXX. Before today though, it's to recollect all the days and and times that Navient has been harassing me. Early morning, XXXX XXXX at night, even weekends, it never ends. They've even called my employer before on XX/XX/2020. When I talked to one of their reps on that day, I explained to them that calling my place of employment and jeopardizing my livelihood was no way to work with me on this situation. And this spoofing phone call this morning at XXXX XXXX. was the last straw. I've tried telling them to back off with all the phone calls. I've told them my financial circumstances have changes drastically and their repayment plans were unrealistic. I'm at the end of my ropes now. I'm reaching out in hopes that someone can somehow help me. Thank you for your time, I do appreciate it.

Consumer Complaint: There are late payments showing on my Navient Student loans- I have several due to Navient back in 2016 due to the fact that Navient was steering me towards forebearances instead of letting me know that I was able to do an income based repayment plan. Once the forbearance was over they never sent notification that it was over and I recieved very unclear and about how to enroll in income-driven repayment plans and how to be able to manage my student loan payments. Navients negligence to give me information when I tried to reach out to them really affected my report as they continued to report late payments on all of my loans. I finally was able to research information after months of trying to get help from Navient. I was able to get help from a financial aid officer at the school who advised me that I could consolidate my student loans, request a new servicer and also apply for Public Service Loan forgiveness since I worked in Public Service.

Consumer Complaint: I originally took out the loan for {$14000.00} but due to limits I was allowed to have {$11000.00} and the remainder was sent back. The record still shown that I received {$14000.00} and have been charged interest on this amount for over fifteen years which has increased the over loan amount tremendously with all the interest. I have tried to talk to several people over the years but they say it is correct but it is not. They have not been trying to help me to get this correct. This has caused a financial hardship on me and my family and was a factor in me filing bankruptcy. The over all amount of the loan should be lowered and recalculated or the loan should be waived.

Consumer Complaint: I started going to school at XXXX College in XXXX County, IL in XXXX. When given the pitch about the college, they claimed to be able to put 98 % percent of their students into the field that they would be studying for. On top of that, they also claimed that at any time, I could return to the school for free retraining after graduation. It was not until I graduated that I learned that it was not an accredited school, so if I were to continue my education elsewhere, I could not use the college credits. When they attempted to put me in my field, they kept trying to put me in customer service positions, such as a XXXX XXXX at a XXXX XXXX down the block from the school, or giving me tiny XXXX jobs, for companies that I believe don't even exist, due to looking them up and nothing about said company ever appeared. An example for this was a XXXX XXXX for a company called 'XXXX XXXX XXXX ', I have never heard of that company before or ever since. When attempting to find a position in XXXX XXXX of XXXX XXXX, a majority of employers would simply not call me back, give me the excuse that they were still looking, but in one instance when I asked if the head of the building was in, and was given an interview on the spot. When given my resume, they proceeded to laugh at after seeing that I went to XXXX. This prompted to do some investigation and found that there were many lawsuits and even ones that were won for their criminal justice students in XXXX for the sum of XXXX XXXX dollars. That being said, if this was the case for the criminal justice students, shouldn't it also be the case for all the other XXXX students as they have been found to not be keeping their promises and were essentially successfully sued for it by the attorney general of Illinois at the time, XXXX XXXX. I feel as though I should not be held responsible for paying back the student loans as given the information above, any and all XXXX College students should of been contacted or made aware of these lawsuits and given the chance to get in on them so that they may be absolved of the debt that they were wrongly put into.

Consumer Complaint: I am having major issues with Navient misallocating my payments. Here is what I sent to Navient customer service on XX/XX/XXXX : Hello, Whenever I got to make a payment, how come it only lets me pay the interest? I noticed that my payment on XX/XX/XXXX, {$260.00} when to capital and {$84.00} went to interest. On XXXX, the entire payment went toward interest. Then, on my last payment, I wanted to make sure I was paying mostly on capital, but only {$36.00} went toward capital and the rest went toward interest. Why is this? Is there not an option to just apply the payment toward capital? Thank you! -XXXX XXXX I never received a response. In the meantime, I have continued making payments. In XXXX, I applied for the income-based repayment plan because I had no choice ( I work for a nonprofit making $ XXXX/yr ). This is when I noticed that my payments began applying to interest instead of the unpaid capital. Apparently, the lower your payments ( with the income-based repayment plan ), the less you are allowed to pay toward unpaid principal. I was not provided with this information while applying. In fact, I wasn't provided with any. How is this even legal? I have made seven payments since I have had to start repaying my loans, most of which were double payments, and my debt has only increased. I understand how interest works, however, if you do the math, I will never be able to pay it off unless I pay in full. At this point, I am willing to co-sign and pay hundreds each month by refinancing if it means getting away from Navient. They have systematically trapped me into a mountain of debt.
