Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't temporarily delay making payments
Consumer Complaint: I have been trying for the past couple of days to get an extension on my deferment due to unemployment. Navient is giving me the run around again. I have submitted all documentation they have asked for, and in reply they send emails saying they've answered my request. When I click on the link provided -- it leads to my account, with zero information about the status of my requests. This has been an ongoing issue. Navient 's website isn't set up to accommodate the user, only to ask for payment in various forms. I am unemployed and have been for quite some time. So, it seems rather unhelpful for the lender to have a maze of a website that is designed not to help customers, but, to confuse them. This is my second time with the same complaint, and Navient hasn't done any better in clarifying the process of asking for deferments, or, receiving information therein.

Consumer Complaint: I am the co-signer on a student loan. I called Navient on XX/XX/XXXX on a recorded line asking if they offer lump-sum settlements. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX said they do not accept settlement offers but then informed me they offer a full pay-off at 95 % of the total value. I owed {$38000.00} and was given {$36000.00} as the pay-off. We confirmed the amount and the date this offer expired ( XX/XX/XXXX ) and I made the full payment on XX/XX/XXXX via ACH after moving funds from my retirement savings. Two months later I discovered the balance of 5 % was still on the account. I called on XX/XX/XXXX and spoke to XXXX and he went to management and returned to tell me he did not have authority to offer that deal, nor did management want to approve it. He seemingly felt bad that he misled me and acknowledged our conversation when I reminded him it was recorded. Fast forward to today, XX/XX/XXXX, after 5+ hours of multiple calls over the past month, emails, being placed on hold for inordinate amounts of time, I spoke to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, then XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and finally XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, all from the Navient Office of Consumer Advocates. XXXX reviewed the situation and made me an insulting offer to credit {$180.00} of my balance. I asked if we could together listen to the initial recorded call and she said no, that was the best she could offer. This to me is about principle!

Consumer Complaint: I have reached out to Navient on my student loan account about a month ago. I spoke with the customer service agent about how my account shows an original balance of {$10000.00}, but it also shows a previous balance of {$25000.00}. I have a copy of this information showing the conflict in information. I spoke to the agent and she stated that her and her XXXX was going to review my account and send me a detailed statement/breakdown of my account as well as the original promissory note for my review. I have yet to receive any information from Navient. I have been paying on this loan since 2010, and have made every payment on time. The agent also stated that I was in forbearance, which was untrue because this loan was never in forbearance. I also noticed on my account that Navient did not apply two payments to my principal but only to interest. Also, I don't understand how I keep getting notices for unpaid interest on my account. Also, I noticed that the payment amount differs every month. It shows every month what goes to principle and what goes to interest. This company is known for being untruthful about things regarding information on your account. Something really needs to be done about this company. I believe they are over charging customers and denying customers certain things to keep them bound in bondage to them. This is very an unscrupulous company.

Consumer Complaint: I cosigned for my daughters Student XXXX loan when she was attending XXXX XXXX in XXXX, NY back in XXXX. Back then it was positioned as " The Student XXXX Loan is a flexible, private education loan sponsored by XXXX XXXX that compliments the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX '' Very misleading. They are far from flexible. The loan amount was {$24000.00} at the time. Her current balance is {$23000.00} after 12 years of paying approximately {$240.00} per month. She can not take me off the loan as a cosigner, she can not make extra payments. She wants out but has to pay the full amount of {$58000.00} minus what was paid to do so. She has had problems in the past making payments and we both get numerous calls and threats. As well, my credit rating went down when she missed payments, and they used that to threaten me when she was behind in a payment, so I could make the payment on her behalf. She was also charged late fees. Is there a class action suit that she is covered by? I am looking for guidance, without having to go to a lawyer on her behalf.

Consumer Complaint: Attached you will find a brief history of my complaint and correspondence with several government officials. I filed a complaint with CFPB in XXXX and it has been since closed without resolve. The complaint is attached. I was swindled by Sallie Mae and Navient regarding XXXX. I spoke with them about eligibility for XXXX in XXXX and they have conveniently notated that we spoke " several times throughout XXXX regarding benefit incentives that were or were not available on her consolidation loan '' but did not provide me with accurate information to consolidate using the proper loan for eligibility. They told me to simply continue paying the loans and as we approach XXXX, there would be additional information. When I applied for XXXX in XXXX, I was denied and told that I'd been in the wrong loan program, that I would have to reconsolidate and pay an additional XXXX payments! DEVASTATING! I've reached out to CFPB ( including XXXX XXXX XXXX, Department of Education, Navient, NC Attorney General XXXX XXXX, NC XXXX XXXX XXXX, former NC XXXX Governor XXXX XXXX, Congresswoman XXXX XXXX, and multiple advocacy groups. The strongest consumer protection agency has, to this point, chosen not to protect me or the rest of the borrowers preyed upon by government-contracted lenders. The public servants who are supposed to hear, serve, and advocate, continue to overlook the cries of fellow public servants who were promised loan forgiveness. I am desperate for the new administration to receive this complaint and, in cooperation with the thousands of like complaints, move to forgive these debts. This has truly been government-organized racketeering. My initial loans were {$55000.00}. Since beginning my repayment plan in XXXX, my current balance remains {$53000.00}. When and where is that ethical?

Consumer Complaint: Step 1 : What is this complaint about? I wrote to CFPB before and below was the result. I need further assistance. " Navient systematically misdirected borrowers into student loan repayment and forbearance programs when they really should have been directed into the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. As a result, the plaintiffs claim they missed out on payments that could have qualified them for public service loan forgiveness, which enables public servants to have their federal student loans forgiven after meeting certain requirements. '' https : XXXX? XXXX This is exactly what happened to me! Step 2 : What type of problem are you having? I'm missing 5yrs worth of payments that could have been added to my PSLF. Step 3 : What happened? I was hired to work for XXXX XXXX. Between XXXX and XXXX I had asked many times if there were programs available to help me with my payments. I was told all that was available was the Student loan repayment and forbearance programs. I had advised them that it was was becoming increasingly difficult to pay in this manner since i had approx 25 loans and that this was destroying my credit having this many loans showing on my credit report. But again and again i was told there were no other programs. I asked if i could get a consolidation load for this. They said NOT to do this because it would bring me undo hardship with one lump sum and that i would lose the ability to pay off loans individually. It wasn't until approx XXXX a gentleman there had informed me that since i'm working for a hospital that i qualified for the PSLF loan. I had never heard of this before and proceeded to get more information. After i applied for this in approx XXXX I was only given credit from XXXX forward. I asked XXXX XXXX XXXX why i wasn't given credit starting back from XXXX. They told me because my loans weren't consolidated before that time. I told them what happened and they told me to call Navient and complain about this, so i did. They sent me a letter dated approx XXXX. Step 4 : What company is this complaint about? Navient Step 5 : Who are the people involved? Navient and Myself

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2021 I called Navient to get some information about the co-signer release program on my loan. At one point in the conversation, I was told incorrectly that my loans were in an interest-only payment status, which was news to me and I have never signed papers to place my loans in an interest only payment plan. I still am unsure if my payments are interest only or principle and interest. The other issue is that I am trying to find out how to release my co-signer. This loan was advertised to me and my co-signer as being a short-term obligation to co-signers. The main ad says, after so many on-time payments the co-signer is released. However I have read that almost nobody has ever been released in this program. A XXXX in Washington State has now ruled that Navient did mislead consumers about " co-signer release '' and that the actual requirements are changing, and completely up to the discretion of Navient and not at all as simple as making " XXXX on time payments ''
