Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I called Navient ( XX/XX/XXXX ) in response to an email notification that my student loan payment was increasing to {$360.00} a month, I am 71 years and employed, but my net salary is XXXX per week. I called Navient and was transferred to a representative with XXXX XXXX who advised me I qualified for a payment plan that would greatly reduce my debt over a 10 year period. The agreement was I pay {$170.00} per month for 6 months and then {$40.00} per month thereafter for the remaining period and Navient and XXXX XXXX ( who I was also getting collection calls from about my student loan balance ). The first payment was deducted from my bank account on XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX ( XX/XX/XXXX ) I received an email from Navient stating a payment of XXXX was done on XX/XX/XXXX. I called Navient and provided the information about my patent plan with XXXX and was told XXXX was a third-party collection company perpetrating a collection scam. I was advised to contact my bank and dispute the {$170.00} payment and contact Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to report what had occurred. I also contacted XXXX XXXX to let them know what Navient had said and was to that XXXX Financial had filed IDR papers with Fed Loan. I asked for a copy of whatever was filed on my behalf because at this point I do not know what to believe.

Consumer Complaint: My son XXXX XXXX XXXX since then I have tried diligently to get this resolved get help without any help from the lender. I submitted his death certificate. I asked for help and all they would do is say since I co signed it I would be the one one to pay the full amount. They constantly offered no help no negotiations no options for me. I co signed his private student loans. They say I owe it all. I have paid diligently since then I work two jobs to keep up but no one will negotiate with me to apply for discharge of the loans or even negotiate with me about this. I am bearly making it and no one will help me. I have my own student loans n am overwhelmed with my son 's debt n mine. Everywhere I turn they all say there is nothing they will do about getting his loans discharged forgiven or even negotiated. Every time I call for help. They say there is no help. There is laws per my senator they have to follow. I have paid diligently on my son 's and my loans. Yet they still won't work w me. It's bad enough to be without my son since XXXX. But each month I send a large check to them for my son 's loans wishing he were alive to use his college education. I'd pay all the money in the world to have him back. They are a very large corporation with millions of dollars. Where is their heart in this? I'm not a slacker. I've kept up my side of this paying monthly. I hope for someone at navient to never go through what I have losing a child. But even worse having to write a check out each month for the past 13 years on your XXXX XXXX XXXX student loan. N bearly getting by to do it. Per records I have .It says with what I pay now I won't have it paid off till XXXX. That is awful. I have reached out to my senator governor and news media about this. I pray we can resolve this. My son would not want me to XXXX this way.

Consumer Complaint: Navient Account # XXXX I started with loans of around {$18000.00} and was garnished for 12 years, I now owe around {$30000.00}. I graduated in XXXX. I paid some payments through the years but finally defaulted after some financial difficulties. In XXXX, XXXX XXXX ( I think ) contacted me about rehabilitating my loan. They said if I paid {$150.00} per month for a year then my credit would be cleared and I could just keeping making payments. Nothing was ever mentioned about higher payments in the future. After the year of full payments on time, they said I had to make {$400.00} a month payments. I said I couldn't, so they said they would garnish my wages. I let that go through since at the time they could only garnish 10 %, which was less than the {$400.00} a month. I figured they would just take it out of my paycheck & it would be paid off. They never mentioned that they were required to negotiate a monthly amount with me, as I have since found they were required to. They said pay the {$400.00} or be garnished. Later the garnishment went up to 15 % due to a change in Florida law. I was garnished for 12 years. When I called to get a status after the 12 years, they said I still owed about {$30000.00} ( the original loan was {$18000.00} ). When I tried to contact the servicer at that time, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, I think run under XXXX XXXX, their website was gone & the phone number directed me to Sallie Mae, who had no information on any outstanding loans. I checked with my employer & got the name of the collection agent, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I contacted them & now they said I owe about {$40000.00}! If I'm making payments, then how could my balance have gone up in 1 year.? They sent me paperwork & pushed me to reconsolidate. All of this is not 100 % since Im going from memory and I have been confused between who holds the loan and who services the loan, and then it gets sold so Im confused again. I have included Navients documentation of my loan payments. I also printed the payment history from XXXX XXXX website. It shows I have paid {$92000.00} on what was originally an $ XXXX loan! In addition, Navient said back then that they had no record of payments from me except for the garnishment payments. I found the history of my payments on I think the XXXX XXXX or Sallie Mae site & sent it to them. I submitted a complaint to the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau. Navient denied to the CFPB that I had made any payments other than the garnishments, but you can see from both their list and the XXXX XXXX list that I have. I told the CFPB that Navient was wrong or lying, and the next thing I know, they cancelled my garnishment. I thought maybe they had agreed that I had more than paid for this loan, but apparently they just sold it to XXXX XXXX XXXX since it had become a problem account. I asked for a hearing, as was my right. I never got one. Most of the above information I sent to the hearing officer. One the date & time of my hearing appointment, no one called. I called Navient & they said the officer suspended my payments & there would be no hearing. This went for a couple of years. Now every year or so I get another letter from another collector. I send them the information preceding this, including the CFPB complaint, and ask for a hearing. I get nothing. They are not garnishing my wages right now, but they are still taking my tax refunds. I recently heard again from XXXX again & sent them the previous information & asked for a hearing. Instead of a hearing, I received a history of my payments & a letter from Navient mostly talking about my credit report. I don't know if they are seeking garnishment again. I am so confused & don't understand how I can pay so much & have my balance go up. I don't even understand the relationship between all the parties involved. I am XXXX years old & coming up on retirement & can't afford to pay {$400.00} a month again, especially if the principal goes up instead of down. That's insane. I feel that since I have paid more than 4 times what I owed, even with penalties and interest, that this loan should be considered paid off. Please help.

Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Consumer Complaint: There is no way that these companies investigated this student loan. The same information continues to report on my credit. I honestly don't believe I was late and I don't agree with the total balance that they are reporting on my credit. It continues to report several inaccuracies among the 3 credit reporting agencies from the last student loan company. How is that possible? For example, Each bureau reports that I was late on a different date Also, Hows it possible that youve reported me 90 days late with no late payments prior to that? Wasn't Navient sued by Cfpb before for not applying payments to consumers accounts correctly?

Consumer Complaint: To whom it may concern, XX/XX/XXXX I received notice that my Navient Department of Ed loans needed attention. I call to request a forbearance and was approved. I've always only talk to One representative to place forbearance on ALL of my loans. I received notice on XX/XX/XXXX that my request for forbearance had been approved and payments would resume in XXXX. Moving forward I received an alert on XX/XX/XXXX from my credit monitoring service saying that i had 11 missed payments on my report. I have the email correspondence that says that if they service any other federal loans that forbearance would be applied to those loans. It came to my attention after speaking to several representatives, they did not apply them to all of my loans which was an error on their end. I've tried on multiple occasions to get this matter resolved. I was told to write a letter and send any proof that i had which i did and they denied me due to their error. They absolutely refused to remove the negative hit on my credit report. I've had these loans for at least 15 years so why would i let something like this happen knowing the outcome would be negative accounts on my credit report? Thank You for your time

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Don't agree with the fees charged
Consumer Complaint: I have been charged {$280.00} in the last 12 months for capitalized interest. I have never asked for a deferment or missed a payment in the last 12 months, yet I was charged this interest anyway. My loans were put into deferrment without my permission. I continued to make full payments while my loans were put into this involuntary deferrement. I wrote to Navient and asked Navient to reverse the {$280.00}, but Navient refused. Instead, in the reply from Navient, it stated that they received an update from my school and automatically deferred my loans. I never asked for Navient to do this! In fact, I dropped classes multiple times over the last year and have NEVER had XXXX XXXX student status for any entire month in the last 12 months. Navient acknowledged that I dropped the classes, but refuses to adjust the fees. The fees are equal to an entire monthly payment. The Navient representative told me that in the future, I can request that Navient update my account status so that school deferrment is not automatically processed. Of course, there were zero instructions on how to make this request and I do not see on their website where this is possible. Also, now that I am attempting to pay down my loans more quickly, Navient keeps changing my loan terms. Two times in the last six months the terms of my loans have changed -- both of which have the impact of lowering the monthly payment and extending the loan term, and increasing the amount of interest that I will pay to them. In addition, I paid two times in XXXX, the first payment was for the amount due and an additional {$45.00} and then 19 days later I made another paymnet of {$2000.00}. I expected the entire {$2000.00} would go to the principal since it was an extra payment made within 20 days of the first -- but instead I was charged {$2.00} of interest.
