Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: I had a call earlier today FRI XX/XX/XXXX with a very helpful Navient agent. I was made aware today that payments to federal loans serviced by Navient not owned by The Department of Education were accruing daily interest XX/XX/XXXX - present. I thought a federal loan was a federal loan. Navient is not honoring the federal 0 % APR but are rather acting daily interest. I paused payment XXXX. Further, if a borrower elects to have Covid accommodations they would have required to be renewed every 30 days and that interest is capitalized and added back to the principal every time it is renewed. This is required every 30 days. When I found out and inquired about a refund of all monies paid since XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX I told I was entitled to it but processing a refund will put my account in some state of failure to repay and reported to a credit agency. I insist i would like to request a full refund of any payments made on federal XXXX subsidized and unsubsidized FFELP loans since XX/XX/XXXX. The amount comes to roughly {$2300.00} in payments. One notable lump sum was {$800.00} and roughly {$500.00} was applied to interest and I was never overdue. Ever. A refund of capitalized interest charges for payments pauses XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX would amount to {$1200.00} capitalized on XX/XX/XXXX and {$100.00} capitalized on XX/XX/XXXX. In no way did I expect that I had a federal loan that was not being in zero percent APR. In the middle of a pandemic I did not know that I would be penalized and have {$1300.00} ADDED to the principal of my loan for pauses relating to the coronavirus. All US press said federal loans were at zero percent. Literally I paid {$1300.00} in capitalized interest before resuming payments for the PRIVILEGE of choosing to begin repaying loans thinking I was adding monies straight to principal while federal loans were at 0 %. In all I have been scammed out of {$3300.00} - {$3500.00} under the guise of being a PARTNER with The Department of Education servicing a federal loan. When I tried to call back Friday XX/XX/XXXX the call center was closed. Previous emails closed the ticket and encourage me to call but the calls are circular, threatening, attack my intelligence and are demeaning. The agents state with dubious intonation that not all federal loans are owned by ED, yet, the only demarcations on paperwork is loan type ( subsidized or unsubsidized ) and repayment type. I strongly suspect my in school deferments also capitalized interest. Very ruthless organization. I had {$110000.00} in student loans and the only ones that are not paid off in 19 years were the ones serviced by Sallie Mae then Navient. This is not a coincidence.

Consumer Complaint: My name is XXXX XXXX, and I am sending this request myself to address the inaccuracies on my Credit Reports. I have a loan with NAVIENT XXXX. I have always made my payments on time. For some reason, I realized that there was a late payment on my credit report and I do not believe I was late on the dates they are reporting. I tried contacting XXXX and XXXX Credit Bureaus with no successful resolution. There was definitely an error on their part. Investigate and update the current status to reflect accurately.

Consumer Complaint: I received a copy of my credit report and it showed that Navient had reported that I was delinquent 90 days on my student loan payment in XX/XX/2019. As I went through the payment records it showed me current in XXXX and XXXX. I contacted Navient and spoke with a representative in XXXX to inquire and advised me that it was incorrect and that I was not delinquent and was on a forbearance. She told me that I need to write a letter to the reporting team at Navient and also file a dispute with the credit bureau. I then contacted XXXX and filed a dispute only for them to come back and state that it has been updated and it still reflected late 90 days. I called Navient back again and spoke with another representative that then told me that they received my forbearance paperwork and that it was not entered until XXXX and that is why it reflected 90 days. I inquired why they held on to the paperwork and took that long to process it and then penalize me for their error. This is unfair practice as there are several times I have had to consistently follow-up with Navient to make sure that they receive and process paperwork as they will just allow it to sit.

Consumer Complaint: I submitted a Borrower Defense Application in 2016 to to discharge my loans. I am always told that my application is being reviewed. Since 2016, abundance of interest has accrued. The balance owed is over {$220000.00} for a XXXX I never received from XXXX XXXX. I have asked Navient to forgive these loans due to hardship. But always told the loans will be deferred, yet interest is accrued.

Consumer Complaint: My complaint is that Navient Department of Student Loans Servicing are reporting inaccurate balances on my credit report. In XXXX I was attending college using my post XX/XX/XXXX VA benefits, but by error, only 80 % of my tuition was being covered. A reimbursement check was sent to the school on XX/XX/XXXX to cover the remaining 20 % of tuition that was paid by me using student loans and Pell, as I am eligible for 100 % tuition coverage. Right now, I still owe Navient for student loans that were taken out and paid to XXXX XXXX on my behalf, even after the reimbursement by the Department of Veteran Affairs. I have included the ledger card provided by the school showing where the school has been reimbursed to this dispute letter. I was advised by my financial aid advisor to contact Navient student loan servicers and again by Navient to contact XXXX XXXX financial aid advisors. These balances are inaccurate and I am requesting they be removed immediately from my credit report. I have attempted to contact all parties involved but was unable to get my issue resolved. I was only referred back and forth between the college and the loan servicers. I also placed a mail in dispute to XXXX requesting the balances be deleted due to inaccuracies but have not received a response in over 90 days, which is well over the time they have to investigate and provide me with accurate and original copies of proof of balances. I have included all documents showing my efforts to resolve this issue before filing this complaint, to this complaint

Consumer Complaint: At the time of my payment being due I spoke to lender reps about other options I had to freeze payments for a bit, bc of the reason that my home income dropped during COVID. I went from 2 incomes to 1 income, and was struggling a lot to make payments. I asked for help and was told I could only get that help when the other borrower gave permission. However, I have told them repeatedly that the other borrower is no longer around, and there is no contact with him. I have been the one making the payments each month for several years, and on time. I can't help that our household income dropped to 1 only, nor that the other borrower isn't available. Navient refused to help me without the permission of someone not even making the payments. It is my bank acct they have been pulling from for years not his. I asked if I could speak to someone higher up, and they said " the same info would be given ''. So I was refused any help. I explained to them, " Ok ... since I am not being given help, and the situation I am in is out of my control... you are giving me no choice, but to not pay at all. '' They responded with, " Okay, ma'am I understand. '' I told them to note that is the reason why they will not be getting a payment from me for a while, since they will not help me out. I keep getting calls non-stop and on several occasions have told them same thing ... : '' I need help with making my payments, and Navient won't help unless I get permission from other borrower. So basically you would rather not get a payment at all than help me out so I won't fault on my payments ''. They said, " That is correct ma'am... we need permission from the other borrower ''. I was never once offered the COVID relief program throughout the whole time of paying. I managed to pay them as long as I could, but when it came down to needing the help Navient refused to help me. I am now behind over XXXX. I just made a payment of a little more than 300, which will hurt my situation a lot.

Consumer Complaint: I have student loans through Navient. At this time, my husband is unemployed and I am the sole income provider for my family. I have expressed this to Navient on several occasions. They have offered me payment plans that are well outside the amount that I can currently pay with the situation I am experiencing. Regardless, they continue to call me several times a day. Today for example, I spoke to them at XXXX and advised them of the above. I stated that I would go online and make a payment of what I could afford. I went online and made the small payments. They advised that they would note the file and that would stop the calls for 7 days. At XXXX, I received a phone call from XXXX who then put a Navient representative on the phone to discuss my account. They call me almost every hour every day from XXXX, sometimes multiple times in a row. It feels as though they are trying to harass me in to paying the loans that I am unable to pay at this time and have expressed to them on multiple occasions. I have 3 small children who most nights I am trying to get fed, bathed and put to bed when they are calling me relentlessly. I understand that the debt is mine to pay but once they have been made aware that I am unable to do that at this time, there is no need for them to call me several times a day every day.

Consumer Complaint: In 2016, I negotiated a deal with Sallie Mae ( now Navient ) to reduce my student loan payments. I negotiated a deal that combined all three of my accounts into one payment of {$250.00} per month and an interest rate of 0.01 %. Since then, I have made this agreed payment monthly, on time, by direct debit. Unfortunately, they report this as a late payment every month and the accounts show as charged-off on my credit report even though I continue to make the agreed payments on time. They also do not list any due date for the payment online in my account. I have been told by them that they are allowed to do this, but it is false information that is ruining my credit.
