Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: In XXXX when I made this loan they never told me at school ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) that it was a private loan, honestly never, I accepted the loan thinking it was a student loan from the federal government, at that time I did not know XXXX and everything was handled by the representative in the financial service area, when I realized the situation it was too late, I was already involved in debt, I always regret not knowing XXXX and that the financial representative had deceived me. When I complained to the institution they said it was a student loan but private, at that time I was still confused. Years have passed and I have been very responsible with the loan, I have had my payments up to date, at some point I had to defer payments and I also had to participate in programs to reduce the interest on the loan for several months to be able to pay it, but I feel that this loan is not going anywhere, I feel that the financial institution ( Navient ) has handled this loan in an incongruous way, starting with the representative in the financial services area at the school who did the entire process in a deceitful way so that I would enter that XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, that was the first year that the school was offering the program in XXXX and they were doing a lot of things wrong in order to get the money from the students or the interested people.

Consumer Complaint: I noticed on my credit report that Navient loans could be negatively affecting my score ( this is what XXXX XXXX said was reporting on my credit report. ) After receiving an email from Navient saying my payment was late I called as I have an Income Driven Repayment Plan of {$0.00}. I called Navient ( XXXX ) informed me ( incorrectly ) that my loans are in repayment with a past due of {$220.00} ( 4 days late ) and this will increase with this months payment for a total of {$1000.00}. XXXX was motivated to collect a payment. I informed XXXX of my current IDR. She informed me that it expired and the pause on student loans didnt apply to these loans. I informed her that the IDR is current for {$0.00}. She continued to reiterate the loan was late and the IDR expired. I researched on XXXX and called my other servicer ( XXXX ) who informed me that I am correct the IDR is current and expired on m XX/XX/XXXX. Student aid says XX/XX/XXXX. I called back to Navient as Im trying very hard to repair my credit and keep it in good standing. XXXX of Navient was condescending and borderline rude in telling me that my IDR expired on XX/XX/XXXX. I also received a security alert that my FSA information was changed. I did not give him permission to make any changes to my account yet he changed my name to include my middle initial which I do not use for my loans. I couldnt remove it without losing access until it was confirmed. Also, XXXX assured me he could create a new IDR for my account. I informed him that my other service providers have accurate information and are reporting accurately and declined the offer. Unfortunately, he left me on hold for at least 20 minutes more when XXXX picked up the line saying she was a supervisor and she doesnt know why Im holding for her. I informed her that my IDR expires on XX/XX/XXXX and theyre records are inaccurate and theyre reporting inaccurately to the credit reporting agencies. She told me I was incorrect and theyre not reporting to the credit reporting agencies and my IDR is expired. She asked me to walk her through what I did on Navients website to see that the IDR was still in place. I walked her through it and she informed me that what I was reading was incorrect although she could see that if I proceeded I would be exiting my current IDR. XXXX said that that doesnt mean I have an IDR in place. Unfortunately, I was not speaking to a representative in the United States. In addition, XXXX conveyed to me that other consumers reported this same issue and what she was telling them to send Navient the copy of their IDR or do a recertification. I informed her per their website it says it will recalculate the IDR and it will not take effect until XX/XX/XXXX. I also informed her that as my service provider it is their job / responsibility to report and maintain accurate information. Although, XXXX was condescending as well she informed me that Navient was aware of the issue of IDRs coming over from XXXX but with blank pages at which time I asked if Navient was aware of the issue why are they reporting inaccuracies to the credit bureau and sending out threatening late notices when consumers are experiencing such hardships right now? I confirmed that she said XXXX is the problem not Navient and disconnected the call letting her know I would be filing a formal complaint. In addition, I believe that due to Navients inaccurate reporting on my credit report theyve helped to hinder me from getting a refinance on my car loan which would help ease some of the pinch I feel on y finances. The entire experience was / is distressing and negatively impacted my XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: I have e-mailed Navient in reference to the student loan forgiveness program and they stated they could not assist. I received an e-mail from them stating my loans could qualify but when I reached out to them, no one would try to assist. I downloaded my payment history and on a {$42000.00} loan, I made {$29000.00} in payments. How can my balance still be {$35000.00}. This math doesn't add up. My balance should not be this high with the low interest rate I have. Also, I wanted to know if XXXX with the XXXX XXXX would qualify for forgiveness but again no one would answer my question. Please help.

Consumer Complaint: I contacted Navient numerous times to get a lower payment. Each time they do financial assessment, they say I am not qualified for a debt reduction when my expenses exceed my income. Neither do they have or offer any alternatives that's fitting to my situation. All Navient do is continually increase my interest rate.

Consumer Complaint: I talked to a representative today and I was told that my federal loan was not eligible for the extended payment suspension until XX/XX/XXXX. The explanation given by the representative was that my loan isnt eligible because it is serviced and funded by Navient as a result of a promissory note from Sallie Mae to Navient in XXXX. Im having a hard time understanding that because in XXXX, I believe my loans were serviced by XXXX. I have yet to see this documentation. If it has my signature on it in any way, it was obtained through fraudulent means. Im requesting that Navient forward to me the loan documents that support their claim.

Consumer Complaint: Navient has said that they can't settle the loan but can they at least settle it at an amount that I can at least pay $ XXXX monthly especially now that I am unemployed and looking for work. It would help so much financially, if I could get a settlement of permanent pay per month that won't rise each year. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Consumer Complaint: I have 4 private student loans with Navient. They are so extremely difficult to deal with. I have lost income with the economy being so bad. I am trying to save every penny to pay my mortgage, and I don't have enough money to pay my private student loans also. I called them, they do not have an forbearance options for me. Since rates have increased the last time I spoke with a different woman and they said that they could sign me up for the interest rate reduction program HOWEVER, since rates have increased it would have only increased my payment from the Interest rate reduction program payment that I was already on of $ XXXX.a month. Now the program expired and I am not on a program at all and my payment is over {$800.00} a month. They just took the {$800.00} out of my account when I NEVER authorized them to do that and my bank bounced the check because there was no money in the account. I had only ever authorized the {$320.00} payments until the end of the program and it ended last month. I got one of these loans almost 20 years ago. The interest rate is over 13 %!! I DID NOT even take this loan out. The school I was attending XXXX XXXX University ( XXXX XXXX ) had me sign a paper they said that they were going to get me grants. They NEVER said anything about this student loan. I would have NEVER obtained a 13 % interest rate! it was not until I quit that school and then I found out I owed money. I have been paying this student loan since XXXX. I still owe more now than the loan was ever originally taken out for. If you look at my loan paperwork my rates are at 13.875 %, 11.25 %, 11.25 %, and 9.25 %. AND it shows that my rates are VARIABLE. If this is not an example of predentary lending I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS. I owe them {$92000.00} And I have already been paying them since XXXX!!!! I attached the complete loan history of just 1 of my loans with Navient.
