Consumer Complaint: I had received a letter in the mail from a collection agency ( National Credit Systems , Inc ) stating that I have a balance of {$990.00} from an apartment complex we were once residents at. The complex is called The XXXX XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ). The letter stated that we owed money due to property damage. I called the collection agency outraged trying to find out why we were billed for such a large amount. And why werent we notified about the balance before or around the time of our move out. National Credit Systems told me that they didnt have the answers to that, but that they were the XXXX to collect the money. I tried to dispute it with them, but I was just given the run around. Now the reason that Im making such a big deal about this situation is because around XX/XX/XXXX, around XXXX, I had casually bumped into one of the front office employees of The XXXX XXXX ( At the XXXX that I work at. It was around the time I was getting off ). Who informed me that after we had moved out, XX/XX/2016, a family of possums had moved in the vacant apartment and in the employees words Tore up everything, they tore up the carpets, the floors, and even the walls. The employee also went on to tell me that they were having a hard time renting out the apartment because of the rodent problem. Saying that the carpet needed to be replaced and other things in the apartment due to the damage the possums caused. The collections agency asked for the walk through paper. But I didnt have the final walk through because on the day we moved out the property XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX was not in. The XXXX XXXX told us that because she wasnt in they would call us to go back for the final walk through. But we never received an email or a call. In addition to the miss call for the walk through, we never received a call after we moved out informing us that there was property damage. I never received a call or an email about a {$990.00} dollar fee that needed to be paid. All we got was a letter 3 months later, from a collections agency stating that I owed a balance for an outrageous balance. I feel that we have been treated unfairly in the situation. Please help us any way possible, it would be greatly appreciated. We eventually came to a agreement and I paid a payoff amount national Credit System were willing to accept but it is still showing up negligent on my credit and they letter XXXX XXXX sent me has a false amount, making it seem as though we didn't make a payoff payment.
