Issue: Struggling to pay mortgage
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2020 : I received a letter correspondence from my mortgage company stating that I was qualified for the home modification process. The following week I received a call from the mortgage rep confirming that I was qualified for the mortgage modification and was given specifics on how much my interest rate would be and the total amount due each month, starting in XXXX. I then proceeded to inform him that those figures were not on the correspondence that I received from the mortgage company the previous week. His next words to me had me wondering about M & T. He stated to me that the letter was incorrect. It could be an advertisement, and if not, it was sent out in error. With my insistence of the validity of the correspondence I received from M & T he asked if he can put me on hold and check with his supervisor. He then came back and stated " oh yes I see it, but that was sent in error '' " we don't offier that rate anymore. He could not tell me who sent it out, when did they stop offering that rate. What was intriguing its the amount that I did mention in previous conversations that is feasible. I am not quite sure where do I go from here. Do I pay the amount they are telling me over the phone or the amount that is listed on the correspondence from them. I was told if I do not start payment I would forfeit my modification. Can they change their minds in the middle of the modificaiton? Do I believe any of the correspondence that I have received from them? I believe they should be held accountable for the information in the correspondence.

Issue: Closing on a mortgage

Consumer Complaint: My husband and I applied for a refinance with our existing mortgage company -- M & T Bank -- in XXXX of XXXX. We worked with mortgage lender Mr. XXXX XXXX who submitted our application for the refinance. We were told that the best interest rate we could obtain on the refinance was at 3.1 percent. We submitted all of the information requested by the bank for the refinance, and paid fees to obtain our credit reports and the appraisal. Since that time, we were told that the refinance loan was approved on XX/XX/XXXX, and that we would soon close on this loan. But, as of today, we have not closed on the refinance. I have sent numerous e-mails on this mater and also asked if we could obtain a lower interest rate because we were told that the have gone down between 2.5 to 2.75 percent. Overall, M & T bank does not respond to our questions on the status of closing or whether we could obtain a lower interest rate on the loan. I talked to Mr. XXXX the last time on Wednesday, XX/XX/XXXX, but he could not tell me when the closing would occur. As I have explained to M & T Bank representatives it does not and should not take over 6 -7 months to close on a refinance. Especially when this is our current mortgage company and we have an excellent payment history with this bank.

Consumer Complaint: On Monday XX/XX/2021 I called a number given to me on the XXXX/XXXX I informed the person that I was trying to connect my prime service to my TV so we could watch movies The person on the other end ask me for the code that i was given on my TV and ask that i open my apple phone and place it next to my XXXX that I was using which I complied next thing I know the person is asking me some questions that had nothing to do with the issue. I felt something was not right and decided to check my bank and that was when I realized that my bank account had been hacked Someone sent a XXXX payment to a person I do not know for {$1300.00} which cleared my checking account. They then proceeded to clear my savings account that was linked to my checking account with two transfers one for XXXX and another for XXXX I called M & T Bank right away and reported it and ask them to locked my online access and to issue me new ATM Cards. The following day I visited the bank personally and spoke to the teller who then call the main bank to see information she then ask some questions about XXXX and a XXXX XXXX, I told them that I have never use that service and after a few more question I was told. that I should hear from Bank after 72 hours On Wenesday I went back to the bank and was told my money was back in my account but upon checking I noticed that the savings account money was in back in my account because the hackers couldn't finish the transaction but the amount of the first XXXX transfer was not credited. When I called the bank I was told the credit was denied and the case was closed. I want the bank to refund my {$1300.00} plus {$110.00} overdraft fees charged to me because there was no money in the account when some of my other payments came in. anything you can do to help will be appreciated

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Problem accessing account
Consumer Complaint: I have been unable to access my M & T bank checking account online all week. I have attempted access at least 20 times over multiple days this week. I sent an email to the bank earlier this week and the bank replied the next morning that the online access issues were resolved. That was inaccurate/false. I was still unable to log in as the site hung up at the 'account summary ' page and failed to load. Internet searches suggest to me that this is a widespread problem among many M & T customers, and not an issue specific to my hardware or software. I am able to log in without issue to all other financial sites. To add insult to injury, M & Ts phone lines are overwhelmed. There appears to be a significant issue with M & T 's web and mobile platform which warrants serious regulatory intervention.

Consumer Complaint: Tried transferring money via XXXX to another account. My bank refused to make the transfers. I sat on hold for 1.5hrs and was told by 3 reps that it was " fixed ''. It never was and I'm not able to transfer money out of my account. This is causing personal accounting errors because my bank offers XXXX. It appears they are constructively making it very difficult to use so that I won't use it. They said they will block transfers in the future with no reason.

Issue: Trouble during payment process
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: M & T Bank does not process payments on time. Our last payment was mailed on XX/XX/2021 and as today XX/XX/2021 hasn't posted. Since they took over our loan, they have not posted any payments on time. I suspect that they are doing this on purpose to charged late fees. Their lame excuse is that the USPS is not delivering mail on time. All the other payments that were mailed on the same day were received and cashed by corresponding companies. I just called them today and they were very arrogant regarding the situation.I asked the rep by the name of XXXX XXXX ID XXXX to trace the payment and he refused to o so. We do not want be charge a late fee or damaged our credit due to their excuses and cavalier attitude towards customers. Please investigate this matter since I suspect its an ongoing issue with M & T Bank.
