Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem
Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Consumer Complaint: I have had a charge off from M and t bank on my Credit report for 7 years at a larger balance than when it was originally written off for. M and T bank kept increasing the amount. I have dispute the information starting in XXXX when it was at 7 years to have it removed yet the bureaus have not done anything. They said the information came back accurate. I disputed it on XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX as well but they keep saying it is valid without proving the methods and means at which they found it so. This item is hurting my credit and has been over the duration of time allowed to.

Issue: Problem with a lender or other company charging your account
Subissue: Transaction was not authorized
Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2022, our business checking account was debited about {$12000.00} and it was discovered to be a counterfeit check. We were told to come in to meet with XXXX XXXX at our bank, M & T ( assisant mgr? ) and sign an affidavit, which we did. We were told no police report would be filed. Of course, the theft of {$12000.00} is a felony, which was never reported because, to paraphrase, the police have bigger fish to fry. I was shocked by this. We closed the account and moved remaining balance to another account. In XXXX, I made an appt with the bank manager, XXXX XXXX, to find out what the status of the situation was. An effort was made to recover the stolen funds, of which only {$8800.00} was credited back to our account in late XXXX. We were told this was all that XXXX XXXX XXXX offered. This was the bank that cashed the counterfeit check. After a couple more months, I was notified in an email for XXXX XXXX that no additional money could be " recovered and sorry to the bearer of bad news. '' He also asked if I'd filed a police report. Along the way, I was offered fraud protection services, where I pay M & T so that I can do more work everyday to make sure that cashed checks are legit. I opted out. Felt like insult added to injury. I tried to set up alerts so that I would be notified of transactions over a set $ amount, but alerts are not available on my business checking account. When I asked why the remaining money couldn't recovered, I was told there was a window of 48 hours, a very tight time frame, in which M & T is able to return the suspected counterfeit checks for a full recovery. The discovery of this transaction was outside that timeframe. There is so much that happened and was said to me throughout this process that felt unprofessional, if not possibly against regulation or maybe criminal.

Consumer Complaint: I made a zelle transaction to a friend of {$100.00}, whom I sent to the wrong recipient. I used their phone number instead of their email, in doing so I called what I thought was XXXX customer service support phone number XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX in attempts to try and reverse the payment. The person who played the XXXX representative lured me into sending {$490.00} to a name of XXXX XXXX and said to me that this was just a generated number to reverse the first payment I had initially sent to my friend. I only caught onto the scam once I realized the money had been taken out and they had me on hold to confirm funds were received. While back on the line with them I heard them taking screenshots and photos of my screen that I had shared with them which is also a dangerous thing I had done. They had even asked me to go to my XXXX ID settings so they can access more information. I was oblivious to this scam and to sharing my information with them in attempts to try and earn back {$100.00} all to lose {$490.00} on top of that. I filed a dispute with my bank M & T in hopes of receiving the funds back and theyve given me up to 30 days to hear back. I hope the CFPB can help many people like me to prevent scammers from taking hard earned money from people. XXXX should be more of a protected payment option instead being so easy and accessible for scammers.
