Consumer Complaint: About four or five months ago the ATM card started to fail on the first try at a specific ATM location. About two months ago the ATM card started to completely fail at all locations. I called the bank 's customer service number. They said there was a fraud alert and they couldn't do anything about it, or even why the fraud alert was there. I then went into the bank branch nearest me, and they thought it was a defective card. I was sent a new card and it worked until XX/XX/2023 when it failed again. I went to the nearest bank branch then and they said there were holds placed on the the ATM usage. The individual I spoke to said the problem will go away in two hours. It did not. Two days later the card failed. I called the bank 's fraud line and they said there was a hold on the ATM due to fraud. They claim there is nothing they can do to change this fraud hold on my ATM card usage. Essentially they can not stop the A.I. from putting up these false positives on my ATM portion of my account. It renders my account useless. The bank is M & T Bank of XXXX, New York, XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: We purchased our home XX/XX/XXXX and M & T bank was assigned as our mortgage company. We recently discovered on XX/XX/XXXX that our monthly mortgage payment has increased by {$310.00} a month without any notification via letter or email from M & T bank due to our taxes and homeowner 's insurance increasing by {$1300.00} for the year. However, M & T bank created a reserve escrow account in which they are collecting {$3800.00} for the year rather than {$1300.00} which is a difference of {$2400.00} extra. They said they do their escrow analysis every XXXX but we NEVER received any correspondences from M & T bank that our monthly mortgage payment would increase due to a reserve escrow account until we logged into our account on XX/XX/XXXX to make a payment and discovered it increased. Then when we called M & T bank on XX/XX/XXXX we discovered that we were supposed to have received a refund check in XXXX of XXXX for {$540.00} that we NEVER received! This was due to paying over in our escrow as well! M & T bank said they would reissue the check for {$540.00} this month to us and that we will go through the same process again next year for this years overpayment in escrow! They are charging us DOUBLE in escrow for the year what we need to pay!! My husband is a Veteran of the XXXX XXXX and this is a VA home loan and we have NEVER experienced anything this shady before! We have been with XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX and a bunch of other lenders and this is the first time we've encountered anything like this! Please help us!

Consumer Complaint: Around XXXX of XXXX, M & T Bank failed to pay my homeowners insurance that has been escrowed since XXXX. This is not the first year this has happened. Subsequently, I was the last person to find out when I received a notice that my mortgage payment was going up hundreds of dollars due to an escrow shortage. If you login to the mortgage payment portal, finding exact details of your escrow account is very difficult in that it does not show a running balance with credits and debits. I contacted customer service for days and spent hours arguing with supposed customer service employees who insisted because I didn't provide homeowners insurance, lender imposed insurance was applied to the tune of three times the cost of my actual homeowners insurance, which had never lapsed and had been paid! After wasting hours of my life debating what should have been the obvious, with an accessible person at M & T bank becoming available with the authority to correct the errors and update my escrow balance accordingly, I was told my credit would be affected if I chose not to pay the highly increased mortgage payment while they went thru the process up updating my information and verifying that in fact they owed this refund and figured out all of their mistakes. This has continued going on for months now with one excuse after another and AT MY EXPENSE AND I AM TIRED OF BEING PUSHED ASIDE AND MY FINANCIAL BURDENS OR THOSE OF ANYONE BEING FORCED TO PAY MORE OR INCUR MARKS AGAINST MY PERFECT CREDIT, IS SURELY CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR? WHY SHOULD I CONTINUE TO PAY FOR THEIR ERRORS, THEIR LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITHIN THEIR OWN ESTABLISHMENT AND THEIR LACK OF CONCERN FOR THE BURDENS THEY ARE CAUSING MY FAMILY AND I? Why do I have to continue calling them and being transferred to endless departments and half of the time non English speaking individuals who do not grasp the severity of this problem and how federal regulations protect all of us as basic standards of lending practices to not allow these types of scenarios to happen and then also continue to be the burden of the customer who has done nothing wrong?! They have still not updated my escrow account balance! They will do the same thing again and again increase my payment of not fault of my own even after I have went so far as to host conference calls between my insurance agent and their insurance department and it is all part of record, yet the numbers are never corrected and my question remains, what if they do this to 100 people? to 1000 people? where is our money and who is benefitting from having it in the wrong accounts for months on end accidentally???? XXXX! I want this entire bank investigated. It appears that they assume a small town Kentucky woman would not stand up to them or question these practices, but they were sadly mistaken! Please address this asap! I can not continue to pay inflated mortgage payments based on a false escrow shortage and the refunds that WERE issued only because of all of my work are still not reflected in my escrow balance as of today and the refunds happened finally in XXXX, XXXX!

Consumer Complaint: I opened my M & T Bank XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX accounts on XX/XX/23 under a promotion and I was supposed to receive : + A {$250.00} bonus for having a {$500.00} direct deposit into my checking account within 90 days + A {$100.00} bonus for maintaining a {$2500.00} balance in my savings account in XXXX and XXXX I satisfied all of the requirements and per the terms of the promotion, both bonuses should have been credited by XX/XX/23 -- but I have not received either bonus yet. I contacted M & T Bank via secure message on XX/XX/23 about the missing bonuses and received responses on XX/XX/23, XX/XX/23 and XX/XX/23 that they were looking into the issue -- but I have not received a response since and the issue is still not resolved. I've attached the page I applied through with the promotion terms and a screenshot showing the promo code was applied when I opened my accounts.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I signed up ( applied and approved ) for an M & T Checking Account ( XXXX XXXX ) using a nationwide promotion. The promotion stated that I must open their account and enroll in XXXX XXXX and receive a direct deposit within 90 days to receive a {$250.00} promotional bonus. The deadline to sign up was XX/XX/XXXX. I successfully received a direct deposit on XX/XX/XXXX in the amount of {$1500.00}. After waiting beyond the payment of the bonus period, I reached out to customer service via chat on XX/XX/XXXX. They never got back to me as of today ( XX/XX/XXXX ). I called the customer service line ( on XX/XX/XXXX ) to request the bonus ; however, they stated that I did not receive the bonus because I did not maintain a minimum balance of {$500.00}. This was not part of the original terms and has not been a part of any of the more recent M & T promotions either. I believe the {$500.00} minimum balance was not disclosed to me and possibly added after I believed I had completed the requirements.
