Consumer Complaint: I have had ongoing issues with incorrect credit card balance reporting by XXXX XXXX on my credit reports prepared by the three major credit reporting agencies ( XXXX, XXXX, XXXX ). This inaccurate reporting violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) 15 U.S.C. 1681s-2 ( b ), which requires furnishers like XXXX XXXX to properly investigate and correct inaccurate information after receiving notice of a consumer dispute from a CRA. Specifically, my XXXX XXXX account ending in XXXX currently has a {$0.00} balance and an XX/XX/2023 statement balance of {$190.00}. However, the CRAs are reporting a balance of {$10000.00} as of XX/XX/2023, which does not match any of my account statements. My XXXX XXXX account ending in XXXX has a current balance of {$2200.00} and an XX/XX/2023 statement balance of {$2400.00}, yet the CRAs are reporting a {$3200.00} balance as of XX/XX/2023, again unmatched to any statement. These inaccurate higher balances negatively impact my credit score and exaggerate my debt obligations. I have disputed the incorrect reporting multiple times, but the CRAs often just verify the inaccurate information as reported by XXXX XXXX. This violates 15 U.S.C. 1681i ( a ) ( 1 ) ( A ), which requires the CRAs to conduct a reasonable investigation when a consumer disputes the completeness or accuracy of information in their credit file. Despite my providing their own account statements showing the correct lower balances, XXXX XXXX has failed to correct the information they furnish to the CRAs, in violation of their obligations under 15 U.S.C. 1681s-2 ( b ). XXXX XXXX and the CRAs have continued to shift responsibility back and forth, leaving these inaccuracies unresolved. Therefore, I request that the CFPB investigate which party is responsible for the ongoing incorrect credit card balance reporting and ensure the information is fixed to comply with the FCRA requirements for accuracy and dispute investigation. The current reporting damages my credit standing and I seek your assistance in resolving this issue.
