Issue: Closing an account

Subissue: Funds not received from closed account

Consumer Complaint: Re : Chase acct. XXXX, cashiers check XXXX I have been a client of Chase Bank for over twenty years. In XXXX and XX/XX/2023, my accounts were hacked three successive times. Chase Bank then closed my accounts and issued cashiers checks for the remaining balances. All three checks arrived at my house in open, unsealed envelopes. The above-referenced check, for {$2000.00}, issued XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX was returned unpaid. I spoke with a banker who said the check would be re-issued. On XX/XX/XXXX I visited the branch and spoke with a banker. After a phone conversation with a Chase office, he assured me that the check had been re-issued and was being mailed that very same day. He said that when I received the check I should not deposit it in another bank but rather cash it as quickly as possible. On XX/XX/XXXX I made telephone contact with the Fraud Unit. They assured me the check had been re-issued but could not confirm it had been mailed out. On XX/XX/XXXX I visited the branch and spoke with a banker. She said she could not confirm the status of the check but would submit a new request that it be re-issued. On XX/XX/XXXX I made telephone contact with the Fraud Unit. They assured me the check had been re-issued but could not confirm it had been mailed out. On XX/XX/XXXX I made telephone contact with the Fraud Unit. They assured me the check had been re-issued but could not confirm it had been mailed out. On XX/XX/XXXX I made telephone contact with the Fraud Unit. They assured me they would make a new request that the check be re-issued, since it has not been re-issued or mailed out. On XX/XX/XXXX I made telephone contact with the Fraud Unit. They declined to make a new request to re-issue the check and stated the check has not been mailed out. It has now been approximately two months since the original check was issued and I have not received a replacement.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I tried to open a Chase Bank Checking and Savings account and deposited a cashiers check that contained all the money I had, endorsed and given to me by the remitter ( my father ). Chase had then placed a hold on the mobile deposit on XX/XX/XXXX without any explanation. My father is XXXX, does not speak XXXX and should not even be legally allowed near me as my mother has a XXXX XXXX against him for our family. I contacted a number of different Chase departments and had even gone to the in-person bank over the course of XXXX weeks and given different explanations but the most common one was that the hold would not be released because the system had flagged it and Id have to wait until the hold date ( XX/XX/XXXX ) for it to be deposited. Simultaneously, Chase had also placed a restriction on my account without my knowledge or explanation up until I received some mail on XX/XX/XXXX ( although the mail was dated for XX/XX/XXXX ) citing suspicious activity. I then called the number listed to discuss how to have this restriction lifted and the hold removed as I had said that I am self-supporting and that money was everything I had. After a number of different people telling me to call later or that they didnt know anything, I finally got the hold lifted on XX/XX/XXXX and the money was deposited but my account was still restricted. I contacted customer service again and was told the restriction would be lifted an hour later as I had all my documentation verified. An hour later, my account was still restricted and when I called customer service again, they had said the request was denied ( without being mentioned to me ) and that I needed the remitters verification through phone number, to which I explained that my father is XXXX, can not speak XXXX, and is not safe for me to be around and would require accommodation. I was told to go to the bank in-person with him and for both of us to have two forms of identification and that then it would be unrestricted. I then managed to get him to the bank with me, I explained the circumstance and the banker said that they would put in a special request for accommodation and I would hear back tomorrow. They also then told me that they had a policy to close any accounts restricted for 10 days and that by XX/XX/XXXX ( this explanation was given to me on XX/XX/XXXX ) the account would be closed and that they wouldnt know what to do then. I asked if closing the account would have the deposited amount returned and the cashiers check valid once again because it was issued by XXXX XXXX ( Chase had cashed it and held the funds and could not return it is what they said ). They said the funds would stay with Chase Bank and I was not told what I could do if that had happened. I had called today ( XX/XX/XXXX ) and was told my request for accommodation was denied. The account will be closed tomorrow and I have no way of lifting this restriction that was not explained to me, could not be accommodated for nor can the cashing of the check be reversed. XXXX XXXX had explained that I could have the check cashed immediately as it was properly endorsed with my name on the check as the Payee but that since Chase has already cashed the check, they hold the funds. I have been given no explanation on why this is happening, how I can remedy it or what Im supposed to do for all failed payments for bills. Chase is currently withholding the money and it seems no one but Chase Bank will be able to use it after tomorrow.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Problem making or receiving payments

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I had initiated an online payment to Town of XXXX for an excise tax using Chase own Bill payment service for {$230.00} which according to Chase system had been withdrawn from my account on a same day and delivered on a next one. On XX/XX/XXXX I got a demand letter from a town that above mentioned tax had not been paid. I stopped at the town later at branch in XXXX, MA later that day and discussed the problem. We had a teleconference with a XXXX Town Treasurer and they confirmed that money had never been received by town. Independently I had opened a claim for the transaction via the online form. on XX/XX/XXXX I again stopped at a Town ( asked by chase branch representative ) which performed extensive search for the payment to no avail. I had visited branch later to escalate an issue and had been promised reply in XXXX days. I asked specifically if they claim that chase delivered money which bank ( where ) it got delivered? meanwhile my online claim had been denied - chase thinks that money reached destination. on XX/XX/XXXX I stopped again at the branch in XXXX to ask what had been found - nothing seemed to be done. I vocal complained and reiterated that town hadn't got the money. on XX/XX/XXXX I got a phone call from a branch representative that they would try to look at it again on XX/XX/XXXX I stopped at Town of XXXX and paid " again '' because waiting longer would result in issuing warrant under my name on XX/XX/XXXX I got a call from Chase that they are looking into it on XX/XX/XXXX I got a call from Chase that town of XXXX according to them received money from the XX/XX/XXXX payment. -- Short story is that chase claims that money reached destination ( town ) while town says that they never received it.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Funds not handled or disbursed as instructed

Consumer Complaint: I deposited a check for my sister XXXX XXXX because she do not have a checking account. We have never had a problem before chase bank. We signed the check and made the mobile deposit on the app. Everything was fine! XXXX even made the funds available to us, so if we was SCAMMING we could have withdrew the money out the account. It was a legitimate check for a settlement she was a part of. But what chase did was cash the check and then freeze the account, instead of just sending the check back if they do not accept second endorsed checks. They should have never cashed the check. Now chase just holding the money in their bank gaining interest on money they should not be. They closed my account I been using putting money into and making transfers from. It is fine they closed the account, but why would they cash a check then hold on to the money? It is no excuse for it, because they could have just simply returned the check and we could have used my credit union or XXXX XXXX bank accounts I have. IT is no telling how many people chase have done this illegal transaction too. Because why would you cash a check, then freeze the funds instead of just return customers checks? They saying come into the bank, but why would we have to do all that over a legitimate check! I think CHASE does this to make interest off our money! We did nothing wrong here and I have proof the funds was available and we could have withdrew the money before Chase closed the account.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Information belongs to someone else

Consumer Complaint: Hi I was a victim of identity theft.I have negative accounts reporting on my credit report that i have no knowledge too. I have noticed multiple addresses and names reporting on my credit report that are incorrect. I have reached out regarding these matters to the creditors as well as the 3 bureaus asking them to investigate and remove inaccurate addresses and names. However, they have not fully looked into that matters. I have sent letters to XXXX XXXX XXXX which is reporting a charged off account of in the amount of {$23000.00}. JPMBC Card reporting a charge off account for amount {$23000.00}. Another JPMCB Card is also reporting charged off account in the amount of {$51000.00}. I have requested investigation and a response back from the 3 bureaus as well as the creditors. But haven't gotten a Resolution.

Issue: Problem when making payments

Subissue: Problem during payment process

Consumer Complaint: I made payments to my Chase credit card on XX/XX/19 totaling XXXX. This has caused my account to be placed on a bank initiated hold for 7 days. I have not been able to get any kind of resolution from the bank, and I have no available credit on my account until the hold clears. This has caused me much frustration and duress, as I have had to cancel important engagements due to this issue. I feel that I am being penalized by the bank for making a payment towards my account balance. Customer service help has been near non existent, and Chase has shown a culture of showing disdain towards their customer base.

Issue: Getting a credit card

Subissue: Application denied

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to formally dispute two hard inquiries on my credit report by Chase Bank and address concerns about false advertising. It has come to my attention that my credit was checked twice by Chase. I believe this to be an error on their part, as they took an excessive amount of time processing my application and had inaccurate information in their system. During a recent visit to a local Chase Bank branch, I spoke with a manager about the incorrect information on my consumer profile from Chase Bank. The manager specified to me that this was an ongoing issue and shared with me that she had the same experience about the same issue and attributed it to an outdated system that had not been updated correctly with the new processing system from Amazon and JpMorgan Chase Bank partnership. This conversation further supports my concerns about the accuracy of the information on my credit report and the unauthorized inquiries. Additionally, I was led to believe that I had been pre-approved for the credit card and received a special invitation to apply. This turned out to be false advertising, as my application was subjected to multiple hard inquiries, which have negatively impacted my credit score. The false advertising and marketing practices regarding the credit card application may be in violation of the Truth in Lending Act ( TILA ), which requires clear and accurate disclosures of terms and costs associated with credit products. I kindly request that you investigate this matter and provide an explanation for the misleading marketing and its impact on my credit report. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), 15 U.S.C. 1681b ( c ), a consumer reporting agency may furnish a consumer report only for permissible purposes, which include a legitimate business need for the information in connection with a business transaction initiated by the consumer. My understanding is that multiple hard inquiries within a short timeframe for the same type of credit product should be treated as a single inquiry or completely removed based on inaccurate information they have in their system. The two inquiries in question were performed on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX by JPMorgan Chase Bank. I have not authorized any additional credit inquiries from Chase Bank or any other financial institution during this period. In addition please note I spoke with XXXX several times and they have clarified over and over again that I do not have any information on my credit profile named Amazon prime credit card. Most importantly I am a previous victim of identity theft. This deepens my concern that there may be inaccurate information that I do not recognize on my credit profile with chase bank. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), 15 U.S.C. 1681b, a consumer reporting agency may furnish a consumer report only for permissible purposes, which include a legitimate business need for the information in connection with a business transaction initiated by the consumer. I believe the duplicate inquiry may not have been conducted with a permissible purpose. Additionally, the FCRA ( 15 U.S.C. 1681s-2 ) places certain duties on furnishers of information, such as Chase Bank , to investigate consumer disputes and report accurate information. I kindly request that you investigate this matter and, if necessary, contact the credit bureaus to correct any inaccurate information on my credit report. As these two inquiries negatively impact my credit score, I kindly request that you investigate this matter and remove these hard inquiries from my credit report. I have enclosed a copy of my credit report highlighting the unauthorized inquiries for your reference. Please find below my personal identification information to assist in the investigation : Full Name : XXXX XXXX Date of Birth : XX/XX/XXXX Social Security Number ( last XXXX digits ) : XXXX Reference Number XXXX I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and expect a response within the 30-day time frame established by the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ). Thank you for your assistance in resolving this issue.

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: In 2022, I opened a checking Chase account in order to manage my money for school. When I opened, I clearly didnt activate the overdraw service in my debit card that would let me the opportunity to pay things even if I didnt have enough funds to it. Although, a couple months ago a lot of charges appeared on my account. - {$130.00} from a XXXX XXXX where I rent a car. Even though I didnt activate the overdraw options Chase allowed the overdraw to happen. I thought I was using my other debit card in the XXXX XXXX However, I did used the Chase card to pay for some trips while I had funds on it. Once I spent all the funds, I just switched to my other debit card. However, some charges were made to my Chase debit card. I didnt know what to do since Im an XXXX XXXX I didnt know if I should paid the charges even though I didnt use my Chase debit card for it. Now, I can not used my Chase debit card and my account because it was close because of the overdraw money. Im so scared because this is going to have an impact in my ability to open new accounts in the near future.
