Issue: Fraud or scam

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX held $ XXXX in pending, due to an investigation and signature verification on three checks. I explained to XXXX XXXX that it was a fraud and to return the monies to my Chase account. XXXX XXXX told me to contact Chase and open a claim. Chase refused citing that written checks do not have the same priority as wire transfers and the payment to the receiver must take place. Instead of preventing frauds, banks are allowing fraudulent transactions to take place.

Issue: Closing an account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: I opened a Chase account and everything was fine and then I get a letter that they were closing my account stating that its from Information that they have because of my association with a chase credit card deposit on vestment count that was previously closed. Several years ago I opened up an account for my boyfriends construction company but it was in my name because he was too busy working to go into the bank and he just doesnt do paperwork computers or anything like that so I open the account in my name and owner. Had properties in the XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX area, but he lives back east in Ohio somewhere he was depositing money for payroll and for construction materials that we needed to complete the remodel of the apartment complex I get a notice from Chase that they are closing my account, they accused me doing illegal Things in so many words, they insinuated I was laundering money or something like that. Thats the impression that I got I was absolutely mortified abhorred at the insinuated allegations. Fast forward to XXXX I open a Chase account because Im not happy with XXXX XXXX because XXXX XXXX close my account installed one of my savings bonds my father had purchased for me. Anyway, so Chase close the second Chase account but I turned around and opened up another Chase account and they allowed me to the system didnt catch it and then XX/XX/XXXX. I receive a letter that states after careful consideration we decided to close your account because of your association with the Chase credit card deposit investment count that was previously closed. Heres what you need to do blah blah blah. Ive tried to talk to people reached out to people tell me this is a mistake Im not sure because XXXX XXXX put me on early warning system When they close my account and stole my bond money which thats another case that XXXX reported about thats being resolved actually so it could be that early warning system thing or could be this old account for mini years ago. I think it was maybe XXXX XXXX I had my other Chase account its been so long.

Issue: Closing an account

Subissue: Can't close your account

Consumer Complaint: My husband has been a customer for Chase for 5 years. After we got married, he decided to add me on his checking account and open a new savings to pay for our mortgage. We opened a savings XX/XX/XXXX and days later we noticed that he's debit card didn't work and also his online banking. I called the bank XX/XX/XXXX and they told me that the documents have not been uploaded to the system and that our account is locked. The person told me to give until Wednesday XX/XX/XXXX so the back office can upload the documents. Wednesday came by and I called again, they said that the account is restricted because of invalid documentation. They said that the account will be closed automatically XX/XX/XXXX and they will send a check. I respectfully asked them many times to let my husband or myself go to one of the branches and withdrawal our money ( {$5500.00} ) and they don't care. Today is XX/XX/XXXX and the account still open and no check has been sent. I called again and a manager named XXXX, I think, said that until we provide documentation the account will remain restricted and is not gon na get closed. I said to him that my husband 's status is not gon na change in the next year, that he has the same documentation he provided when we went to the branch to add me on the account. This manager said there is nothing he can do so basically we are loosing {$5300.00}. This account has been restricted for almost 4 weeks and we have a mortgage to pay at the end of this month, I believe this is our money and Chase don't have the right to restrict our money for 4 weeks and longer. If we couldn't open the account and my husband wasn't eligible, they should have just told us since the beginning. My husband don't have any new documentation to provide because his status has not change and is not gon na change soon.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals

Consumer Complaint: This complaint pertains to Chase Bank. I have had accounts here for 20 years. Two weeks ago, the bank updated my primary address to my residence and made the mailbox address I've always used as the secondary address. Since then they have frozen all of my accounts " pending review. '' The banker at my branch has made written complaints within the internal bank communications system, but has been told that the " compliance '' department is reviewing this and that there is no means to reach that department. The purported reason for locking my accounts is that they need to verify that my name and residential address match my account profile, which three bankers have confirmed that it does. I have a substantial amount of money deposited here in checking accounts.

Issue: Fraud or scam

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: I applied to renew my driver license and DMV said they mailed to me at XX/XX/2023. But our communities mailboxes were broken in. I never received my renewed driver license. It was stolen. 1. On XX/XX/2023, someone else wrote a fraud paper check, pretending to transfer money from one stranger 's XXXX XXXX account to my account. The Chase bank agent said the other guy used my driver license at one Chase local branch and then forged my signature, then cashed out the money. On XX/XX/2023, Chase bank system posted the " deposited item returned due to account frozen '', withdrawing money {$3700.00} from my account. I lost {$3700.00} due to the fraud activity. I got this lost recovered on XXXX XXXX, 2023 as Chase gave me reimbursement. XXXX. However, another same fraud activity happened on XX/XX/XXXX, the other guy used the same method writing a fraud check from another stranger 's XXXX XXXX account ( different from previous one ), forged my signature and used my stolen driver license to cash out the money. The Chase bank system withdrew my money on XXXX XXXX, 2023 saying " deposited item returned due to account closed ''. This time I lost {$3600.00}. I haven't got this part of loss recovered. 2.1 As you can see, from XX/XX/XXXX to XXXX XXXX, 2023, the paper check record takes a long time to be posted. And the worst thing is that the local branch didn't perform solid verification and let the other guy cashed out the money from a fake check. 2.2 It takes pretty long time for me to get a response from Chase bank investigation unit about my case of losing {$3600.00}, I have been waiting for more than 2 weeks. Each time they required me to send back more details/ documents then it is another week 's wait.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Problem using a debit or ATM card

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX, My chase online banking account was breached by an unknown party which accessed chase.com through an XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. My passwords and all information in my account including my contact information ( email and mailing address were all changed without my knowledge ) The email address to which all of the security alert notifications were going to was ( XXXX ) confirmed by a chase fraud specialist. The delivery address was changed to an address in Florida which I have no connection with ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX, XXXX FL XXXX ) to which a replacement card was requested to. THE INFORMATION ABOVE IS WHAT I HAD FOUND THAT WAS CHANGED IN MY CHASE.COM ACCOUNT AFTER REPORTING THE CLAIM AND DOING SOME OF MY OWN RESEARCH AS TO WHY MY ACCOUNT WAS BREACHED. CHASE DID NOT TAKE THESE CHANGES INTO ACCOUNT IN THE INVESTIGATION. Without any knowledge of this transaction, Chase granted this request and I assume a replica of my actual debit card at the time was sent to this address. I had no knowledge of this at all as I even used my current card in New York at the time on XX/XX/XXXX at my local XXXX for an amount ( {$13.00} ). I had also made several purchases thereafter for the remainder of the month of XXXX in XXXX XXXX XXXX. XX/XX/XXXX I am hospitalized for about 24 hours ( documents to prove attached ) at XXXX XXXX XXXX. I was admitted XX/XX/XXXX and discharged XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX ) After the XXXX, I am XXXX for days XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX, XXXX, XXXX thereafter, this unknown XXXX XXXX device accessed my chase account again. I, once again, did not know until I had logged into my own chase account in XXXX and saw that I had received application notifications, not the push notifications to email and phone that I had requested when originally creating the account. I then realized that something was astray and I checked my balance and saw that there was a significant amount of money withdrawn from a GAS STATION ATM in XXXX FLORIDA. The transactions are as follows : ATM WITHDRAWAL XX/XX/XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX FL Card XXXX XXXX ATM WITHDRAWAL XX/XX/XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX FL Card XXXX XXXX ATM WITHDRAWAL XX/XX/XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX FL Card XXXX XXXX ATM WITHDRAWAL XX/XX/XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX FL Card XXXX XXXX IMMEDIATELY following my realization of this, I called chase fraud frantically XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX I was on the phone for 10 minutes with a representative. They found that the best solution was to lock my card and send me a replacement at my actual address in XXXX and was told a claim had been input for a fraudulent charge. XXXX XXXX at XXXX I called again for another 7 minutes and verify that my claim actually was input, to which the fraud representative told me that it was not. This call, I requested I receive the claim number to ensure that the chase representatives did their job correctly. ( claim id XXXX ) XXXX XXXX XXXX the following day, I had mustered up enough energy to leave my apartment after the XXXX and go to my Chase account branch where I had originally opened the account 7 years ago to PHYSICALLY withdraw cash since my card was now locked. At XXXX i HAD WITHDRAWN {$600.00} AS A BRANCH WITHDRAWAL at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX NY XXXX XX/XX/XXXX, Chase had given me a temporary {$1000.00} while they launch the investigation into my claim. I am then conducting every day tasks as normal XX/XX/XXXX Chase had then removed that {$1000.00} granted to my account and sent a notice that said : We found that the transaction was processed according to the information you provided or was authorized This means that they had denied my claim and had conduction a lackluster investigation into my claim and did not connect the dots correctly. Since then, I had made many calls to chase fraud, Identitfy theft, and even the local police authorities, to which I keep getting bounced around in circles, one sayign the other has to do this for me before something else can be done, etc. I have conducted a better investigation than the chase investigation team could and the chase fraud phone representatives will not give me any information on my own case other than " the physical card and chip was used '' My issue with this is how and why did chase allow unauthorized use of my own funds in another state while two identical cards were active and why am I suffering for an oversight that happened on chases behalf. Obvious points are : Someone requests a new card under my name to a Florida address while I am still actively using my card in XXXX XXXX XXXX I am in the hospital receiving XXXX the day before the card is fraudulently used No push notifications sent my devices and accounts because my chase.com account was breached by another party. No help given by chase fraud department other than replacing my card.

Issue: Closing an account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: I received a letter in the mail from JP Morgan Chase Bank on XX/XX/XXXX stating they were closing my checking account that I have had since XXXX. The letter was dated XX/XX/XXXX and states that my account will be closed on XX/XX/XXXX ( 3 weeks approximately ). There is no reason why. I called the number listed on the letter XXXX and they do not know the reason either. I went to the branch and they also have no idea why. In the past 44 years with Chase I have never had any issues. I don't overdraw, I keep money in the bank. I am the most normal, follow the rules person you could ever meet. And I can not think of ANY reason why Chase is closing my account.

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX, 2023 I deposited a check from XXXX XXXX in the amount of {$64000.00} in my Chase checking account a few days later I deposited a check from XXXX XXXX XXXX in the amount of {$1800.00}. I was informed that the funds would be available on XXXX XXXX, 2023, when that date arrived the funds from both these checks were not available. I contacted Chase customer service and was told the bank had to ascertain that the checks were indeed issued to me and the bank needed a phone number to contact the issuing parties for that purpose. Both of the checks had contact phone numbers on them. I was told by customer service that those phone numbers, the ones actually on the checks, could not be used by Chase to verify the checks. I contacted both of the check issuers and was told the checks were legitimate and Chase should call the phone number provided on the check, I was given additional phone number but these were not acceptable either. I was also told that both checks had been cashed by Chase. I again contacted Chase and was told that Chase did indeed receive the funds but they could not be released to me until I could get a phone that was acceptable to Chase. I was also told that my account would be closed, which it was and I no longer have access to my past transactions involving that account. After my account was closed I received a check from Chase in the amount of {$9800.00} which was the amount in my account minus the {$66000.00} which was held back. I was told that the funds held back would remain with Chase for a period of time and then be sent to the government. I am not sure what that means.

Issue: Unauthorized transactions or other transaction problem

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023, two {$8000.00} wire transfers were fraudulently wired from my Chase checking account, and one of the transfers was refunded immediately but not the other. I filed a claim and closed the account. I received the forgery packet at the end of XXXX saying the claim was closed until the Claims department received the information in the packet. I contacted the Claims department on XX/XX/XXXX to inquire about my claim and was told the forgery packet arrived XX/XX/XXXX, and there was no update on the claim yet. I contacted the Claims department again on XX/XX/XXXX to inquire about the claim. I was told that my claim was denied in XXXX ( before receiving the forgery materials ) due to Chase believing it was not fraudulent, so it would not be investigated further. I was also told that I was mailed that information in XXXX, but I never received such a letter. I was told that letter could not be mailed again and that there was nothing I could do/no one else I could talk to at Chase about my claim. I was told to contact the recipient of the transfer, but as I did not authorize the transaction, I do not know who received it. I messaged Chase through my account to inquire about the denial of my claim, and was told on XX/XX/XXXX that it appears that I authorized the transfer ( which I did not ), and they tried to do a " courtesy recovery '' but were not successful, so the situation would need to be " resolved directly with the recipient, '' who is someone that I do not know. I did not authorize the transactions. I do not know who sent or received the money. I have not done anything that is grossly negligent regarding my checking account. I have filed a police report with the XXXX, IL Police Department and provided them with the bank statement with the wire transfer details and any correspondence I have had with Chase. I have contacted attorneys to understand what legal liability Chase has and how to proceed with getting my money back. I would not be going through so much trouble if I authorized these transactions.
