Issue: Problem with a lender or other company charging your account
Subissue: Transaction was not authorized
Consumer Complaint: In XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX, a {$9500.00} check for my Chase checking account was stolen in the mail and cashed at XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX. I filed a Declaration of Unauthorized Endorsement with Chase, who said they intend to get back to me and recoup my money in 90 days. However the claim failed, for no good reason. I have called both banks countless times. I confirmed with XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX that the root cause of this was that Chase submitted a typo when they submitted the claim. However though Chase has reopened the claim, I see no evidence they've actually fixed the typo or done anything to resolve something that ought to have been resolved almost a year ago.

Consumer Complaint: Chase Sapphire credit card had late fees for a pending transaction. I was sent this bill and was unable to pay it. This was a no interest card for about 18 months. The fee was corrected, but an updated bill and the correction was not sent to me. The account ended up with interest and into collections. This was later into the pandemic around the omicron virus and work had slowed and I was XXXX XXXX Unemployment was received very late. This card had no expected payments and ended up charged off. I later settled for about a tenth of the debt, but can not open a new card due to the effect on my credit. I had called Chase repeatedly and asked in person at a bank first only to be told to go back and forth. The account then ended up in collections.

Consumer Complaint: I was a victim of a scam. On XX/XX/2023 I became a victim of a loan scam. It was a company that was online, that was fraudulent. They were able to hack into my bank account and started reversing transactions, including my rent. I was then threatened to go to XXXX and send them {$1500.00} via XXXX transaction I I was told that if I did not do that, they would make it so that no bank or any other lender would ever borrow to me again because they could make it look like I was the one filing claims and reversing payments to all my monthly bills. When I went to XXXX to send the funds via debit card to my bank, which is JP Morgan, Chase, I called the bank immediately to report this. They assured me on the phone that they would stop all this, and that I would not be responsible for the money I lost. Now XXXX days later Im told from Chase Bank that its my fault that I was the one that sent this money voluntarily and that there was nothing else that they could do. I now am negative in my checking account of over {$1300.00}. After XXXX years of banking with JP Morgan, Chase they are not helping me in this matter. I have filed a complaint with the XXXX XXXX XXXX and also filed a police report. They are still not helping me I am now worried about facing eviction and I have nowhere to go I know where to find an extra {$1300.00} because I live paycheck to paycheck. Please help. I have all the fake loan documents, and even contacted the company where they were informed that this person was using their letterhead fraudulently

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Funds not handled or disbursed as instructed
Consumer Complaint: I have business account with Chase Bank. I used a service called XXXX that belongs to Chase Bank to accept payments from clients. As instructed I followed the steps to send my client a payment request, my client paid the invoice. Later in the day I get an email from Chase Bank saying the transaction failed because the transaction had the incorrect or different name linked to my account. So I called Chase Bank support and they couldnt assist me on it, another lady told me that my account was permanently closed and the funds were going to be held back until I file an appeal up to XXXX moths waiting time. I tried to contact them but they said itll take some time for them to contact me back. Very unfair treatment and I demand this problem to be solved.

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: Hi CFPB Team, I got a letter today from Chase closing both my personal and business checking account along with the credit cards under it with no reason given. The note under my account simply pointed out it is their right to close my account just like I as a consumer can open/close an account at any given time. After escalating the issue within the Chase corporate team and staying on the phone for more than 1hr, I was told the decision is final and no appeal can be submitted. Personally, it baffles me to understand the reason behind this closure and every person I talked with Chase on the phone feels the same. But they can not help me further without any information and options given to them. Not even their supervisors can priovide any guidance. The accounts I have combined with over 500K in cash/brokerage and only {$7000.00} in credit card debt. On the business side, the account was opened back in 2017 with annual revenue of around 2 million. I can't help but feel like a certain discrimination is going on given the opacity and irreversibility of the decision without any chance of proving myself. As a Chase Private Client, I certainly expect more clarity especially when I am blacklisted to have any future relationship with Chase. Could anybody from the CFPB help me get to the bottom of this? Appreciate your help and have a great weekend.

Consumer Complaint: I am submitting this complaint due to the unethical behavior of Chase. I have a Chase Amazon Prime credit card. Several months ago, I received an offer in the mail for a balance transfer at 1.9 %. I called the bank to ask for information about a transfer. I was given a disclosure that was very difficult to understand. I have no legal training, and the disclosure had a lot of legal terms. I ended the call without making the transfer. Sometime later I decided to call and ask questions about the disclosure. I spoke with a representative, who read the disclosure again. I asked several questions regarding the application of payments. I wanted to know if my payments would go towards the new balance, as I planned on continuing to use the card, or towards the transferred balance. The representative was not very clear, but he relayed to me that my payment would go first towards a minimum payment on the transferred balance, then to new purchases, and then to the remainder of the transferred balance. I clarified that this was the case, and then I transferred two balances to the card. When I got my XXXX statement, I discovered that I had been misled. I had made purchases in the amount of {$1600.00}. I had a previous balance of {$4600.00}. This balance consisted of my transferred balances and the balance transfer fees. I discovered that I had been charged interest at two different rates. I was being charged at 1.9 % for the balance transfer, which I had agreed to. I was also being charged at 9.99 % for my new purchases. This interest rate was applied to the amount of {$1300.00}. I have no idea where this figure came from. I called the bank immediately as I assumed that the 9.99 % rate was an error. I was told that that rate applied to my new purchases, which were in the amount of {$890.00}. I explained what I was told about the application of payments, and I was told that my information was not correct, and that payments went entirely to the transferred balance until it had been paid off. Interest would accrue at my normal rate of 27.49 % on my new purchases. The 9.99 % rate was a promotional rate and temporary until XX/XX/23. I was astounded that the company would not only charge interest at this usurious rate, but that it would mislead me in an attempt to run up a balance so that it could charge this rate. I requested that the phone call when I placed the balance transfer be listened to and that my balance transfer fees, plus the interest on new purchases, be refunded to me. I was confident that this would happen. I was told to expect a response in 5 to 7 days. After 9 days I had not heard from the bank. I called and asked to speak with someone about my complaint. I was told that a bank representative called and explained the situation to me. No one from Chase had called me, and I fear that my personal banking information was given to a total stranger. I asked for the results of the investigation into my being misled by the Chase representative. I was told that they determined that there was no bank error. I take this to mean that I was intentionally misled. If it was not an error to misrepresent how payments are applied, this must be an unofficial bank policy. I asked for a copy of the recording and was told that they would not give it to me. I immediately paid off the entire balance. I am respectfully requesting that I be refunded my balance transfer fees of {$170.00}, as well as the interest on my new purchases in the amount of {$11.00}, for a total of {$180.00}. I am also requesting that Chase banks policies on disclosing information be investigated. It appears that they are intentionally misleading consumers in an attempt to charge them usurious interest rates.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/29 a person used my stolen license to withdrawal {$1400.00} from my account at a branch in XXXX, MI. We do not live near there. We called immediately when we received the alert but had to wait until it was no longer pending. On XXXX we started contacting claims for the fraudulent activity. Both my husband and I have called countless times. I have visited the branch. I have faxed both my drivers license and the police report multiple times. I have emailed my police report. They are still claiming, 10 days later that they do not have any of the things that both I and the branch have faxed and emailed. They will not allow me to contact anyone other than the people at the claims call center. There is no ONE person to speak to that can help us get our money back. We are now nearly 3 weeks after this thief stole our money and still do not have it back. Chase has made it nearly impossible to get it back and have treated us as criminals with the burden of proof being on us. Their system is broken. This is not okay.
