Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX my card was charged {$430.00} by the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. An inspection of my final billing statement however states I should only have been charged {$180.00}. On XX/XX/XXXX I filed a credit card dispute with Chase under VISA Chargeback Code 12.5, Incorrect Amount. In my dispute, I explained the billing error and provided the final invoice showing the amounts which should have been charged and refunded. on XX/XX/XXXX Chase responded wihtout provided any notices or documentation from the merchant refuting the dispute, stating they contacted the merchant and found the merchant submitted the charge for the correct amount. They also claimed they were unable to confirm I was due to credit without documentation showing a credit was due. This was highly frustrating as I provided the billing statement showing the incorrect charge, then XXXX credit from the merchant which never posted to my account. I literally provided the document stating I was due credit they claimed they would need to provide a credit. It became clear the Chase dispute anlayst where not reviewing the documentation provided properly at this point. Chase further concluded the charges were valid, despite the final invoice showing a different amount owed. I resubmitted the dispute on XX/XX/XXXX notifying them they had failed to properly investigate this billing error. I also informed them of their responsibilities as the Card-issuing bank. I notified them they are expected to examine the details of each dispute and make a fair, impartial judgment to determine liability and the card networks have extensive and complex guidelines for this. These rules determine how banks investigate disputes for the relevant card brand. I further notified them of my consumer protections provided by The Fair Credit Billing Act ( FCBA ), UCC codes, and Visa Dispute Resolution Guide, which provide consumers the right to dispute billing errors, and inaccurate or fraudulent credit charges. I provided them with the definition of billing error as defined by the FTC. I also notified them they had failed to provide a written explanation for their decision or the response provided by the merchant despite my having previously requested these documents. I also once again provided the necessary documentation. it wasn't until XX/XX/XXXX that chase replied " As a result, we thoroughly reviewed all information that was provided to us to determine if a billing error occurred. " They also stated " While you may have a valid complaint with the merchant, the results of our additional review confirm that the transaction is valid and no billing error occurred on your account. '' They obviously once again failed to review the documenation or detailed letter I'd provided. This is an obvious failing of Chase to properly process a billing dispute in violation of the FCBA, UCC codes and the VISA dispute resolution guide. It is unknown whether their analysts failed to review the documentation provided properly each time, or reviewed and ignored the supporting documentation provding the billing error occurred. It's also unknown if Chase actually contacted the merchant as they failed to ever provide a response from the merchant.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2023 ( around XXXX EST ) I received a phone call which my phone identified as CHASE FREEDOM ( XXXX ). I answered it and the man began telling me that there was suspicious activity on my credit card. Being a suspicious person, I checked for a phone number on the back of my credit card and it matched with the number that was calling me. The man proceeds to continue to ask me about purchases claiming he worked with Chase 's fraud department. Over the course of the conversation his questions became increasingly suspicious ( do you bank with chase 's mobile app, what is your social security number for verification purposes, etc. ). Eventually he asked me about my bank account that I frequently use to pay my credit card. I told him I would not discuss this with him and would be talking to a XXXX employee about this. He attempted to assure me that this is normal procedure and read back to me my full name, my full social security number, my full phone number, and my address, as well as an incorrect email address ( XXXX ). I informed him that this was unnerving and he began to transfer me to a " XXXX '' employee ( pronouncing the bank incorrectly with a " t '' multiple times. ) I again checked the back of my XXXX debit card and the number I was transferred to matched. A new man asked me fake security questions like my mother 's maiden name. I mistakenly answered these. Then he began asking me for my username for the " XXXX '' mobile app. Then he asked me what my balance was. I told him if he truly worked for XXXX then he would have access to that information and told him I would not be revealing this to him. I then asked him if he could just put a freeze on my debit card and issue me a new one. He refused stating it was " unnecessary. '' At this point I told him I believed this was fraud and hung up. They attempted to call me back 6 times from the number XXXX ( which matches XXXX 's real number ). Then I called XXXX and Chase myself and with the help of the real representatives we locked my accounts. The Chase representative informed me that a few of my purchases were fraud and multiple digital wallets had been opened using my credit card. The XXXX representative informed me that during our phone call, there were a few attempted purchases from XXXX.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals

Consumer Complaint: I recently opened a business account with Chase to support my corporation. My account was wrongfully terminated by Chase, by Chase 's own admission. And yet I still have not been able to recover my money. I deposited 2 checks ( the first time I had ever deposited checks into this account ) via mobile check scan deposit into my new Chase business account, one for {$38000.00} and another for {$15000.00} both from a reputable company I represent While making the deposit Chase placed a 2-week hold on both checks which was fine as its normal process since these were large amounts and my first deposit. After 2 weeks passed I tried to log in online and my account was frozen, so of course I immediately called the bank. They told me that this was because the checks I deposited were flagged as potentially fraudulent, and that I needed to provide phone numbers for the issuer of the checks in order to verify them. Okay, no problem. I provided the information, and Chase claimed that the phone number for the issue was not listed under public domain, so they were unable to verify it. After several days of going back and forth they were finally able to locate a phone number for the check issuer to contact. AtI this point I contacted the check issuer and on their end they showed the checks as cleared and as far as they are concerned they can't do anything as the money is already taken from their account. I informed them that Chase would be calling to verify the checks were indeed made out to me and that they have cleared and they said no issues and have Chase call their accounts payable department. Chase finally called the company and the company clearly and very explicitly verified that the checks were issued to me and that they had cleared. At this point, the Chase representative started asking a lot of intrusive questions to the issuer of the check such as routing number, account number, tax id info which raised flags to the issuer as the call might be fraudulent so they did not provide that info except to verify the checks had properly cleared their account and that the checks were made out to me. After this event, I called Chase once again and they said since they could not verify all they needed they can't do anything, and the account is closed. I asked what is going to happen to my money and they said go back to the check issuer. The check issuer on their end can't do anything as the amount has already been withdrawn from their account over a month ago so I am stuck in limbo. Now my account has been closed and I have no recourse of action. Chase has been unresponsive to all my calls and I keep getting switched around from division to division with no end in sight. I have over {$53000.00} which I am unable to access and have no way of getting back as the issuer of the check has already had the funds withdrawn from their account over 4 weeks ago. This seems like a money-making scam on Chases part as they are now collecting interest on my {$530000.00} and have no clue what is going to happen to my hard-earned money.

Issue: Closing an account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: I receive a loan for XXXX dollars and deposited into my business bank account ending in XXXX from JP Morgan Chase Bank. in the morning of XX/XX/2023 I went personally to the location of XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX ( chase bank ) asking for XXXX in cash because I'm in the process of acquiring a restaurant and also buying used cars at the in auctions which only accept cash. they happily helped me but due low cash in branch only provided me with XXXX dollars and advised me to visit a SECOND Branch to withdraw the rest. As advised I directed myself to the second location ( XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, NY XXXX ) CHASE BRANCH and I was attended by XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX ( not sure about the last name ) I explained her what I needed at the moment with all documents in hand but she denied to provide me service and the funds even when having me in front of her with my ID CARD, SOCIAL SECURITY AND MULTIPLE CHASE CARDS PERSONAL AND BUSINESS. SHE TOOK MY documents PLACED A restrictions in all multiple accounts which got into effect 3 hours later, leaving me without money or resources to exist. HER WORDS WERE I CAN HELP YOU BUT NOT TODAY ILL CALL YOU LATER TODAY TO HAVE IT READY. She denied me the service because how I was DRESSED, my SkiN COLOR AND MY NATIONALITY AS XXXX. I FELT TOTALLY DISCRIMINATED, OFFENDED AND MISTREATED. WHY do I say that I felt and still feel TOTALLY DISCRIMINATED, OFFENDED AND MISTREATED Because when I left that branch previously mentioned ( without knowing what she did with my documents ) I drove to the next location looking to complete the funds in order to start with the business which was the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX, NY XXXX. ( CHASE BRANCH ) once I arrived to the 3rd location they were more than happy to help me and provide me with the funds requested XXXX dollars. why do I write this letter because no one should be discriminated, mistreated, violated or offended for their skin color, race, education level or nationality. If the 1st branch was able to help me providing my funds and also the 3d one But the 2nd Branch decided to hold the funds deni the service and on top of that lock my account with no previous notice, without giving me the Opportunity to get money for gas, food or any other personal need. since all branches has the same bylaws and follows the same rules because they are the same company and one person because of how I looked at that moment refuses to provide service or help with my request instead blocked my accounts violated my rights ITS BECAUSE ( SHE SAW WITH PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE ) NOT AS A CLIENT SHE DISCRIMINATED ME. once I head back to the lawyer office, it was there when I noticed all my accounts were blocked leaving me in shock and without funds. not a single notice before. NOT ALL XXXX ARE DRUG DEALERS IM NOT ONE thank you NOT my first language but hopefully you will undertand.

Issue: Applying for a mortgage or refinancing an existing mortgage

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: The mortgage company involved is Chase and my account number is XXXX. During the pandemic Chase promised to refinance my mortgage which was a deception to force me to sell my property. I resumed payment of my mortgage before the end of the pandemic, two years after I stopped the payment. But Chase stopped my payment after several payments have been made and demanded immediately that I paid {$64000.00} ( XXXX XXXXXXXX ). All appeals and begging were wickedly rejected.Chase told me to sell my property or be ejected. Buyers who are XXXX are all over my property doing inspections. I called upon friends and family members for help and incurred {$40000.00}. ( XXXX XXXX ) in credit cards debt to raise the {$64000.00}. I paid the money to save myself from death and humiliation. I am a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX man with XXXX children in the university and I wonder what Chase would gain in throwing my family out after paying Chase mortgage for XXXX. Chase inflated the mortgage to make it impossible to pay. I complained to no avail. Now while still struggling to pay the mortgage Chase added another {$250.00} ( XXXX XXXX & XXXX ) last month. Please I need the agency to stop Chase from destroying me and my family. What does Chase gain from ejecting XXXX XXXX XXXX man from his home. Chase should refund my {$64000.00} that was extortion and refinance my mortgage. I did not know that CFPB exists when I sent the {$64000.00} to Chase. I was scared by what Chase staffers told me several times thats more of harassment and I quickly used my wifes and family members credit cards to pay. Please help and save me from internal disintegration.
