Issue: Problems at the end of the loan or lease
Subissue: Termination fees or other problem when ending the lease early
Consumer Complaint: At least a XXXX XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. In my lease contract it shows there is a disposition fee at the end of your lease term if you do not purchase the vehicle or lease another vehicle from this manufacturer there will be a fee of {$590.00} that I agreed to back then. Like the 15 or so other General Motors vehicles that I have least over my lifetime I agree to this fee because I knew that I would always be getting another General Motors vehicle. In XXXX the world was struck with the pandemic all of the plants were shut down and vehicle production was halted. Because of this shutdown and production halt there were no vehicles available at the time when my lease was to be returned. I called multiple dealers in multiple cities from XXXX to XXXX to XXXX and there was no vehicles available in the full-size SUV class that I must drive due to my family size. In addition to the pandemic and low inventory in the full-size SUV category GM launched a new model year which made inventory even more scarce. I proactively tried for months before my lease term came up but there was no inventory on the market and there was a waiting list for all full-size vehicles from 6 weeks to 90 days. Due to this situation I wasn't able to grab another General Motors vehicle I was forced because there was no inventory to shop from another manufacturer. I feel I am wrongfully being charged a {$590.00} disposition fee because General Motors went into contract with me stating that they would provide me with another vehicle at the and of my lease term but in this situation because of all the factors explained above there were no vehicles available and General Motors did not hold up their end of the bargain. Now I am being threatened that my credit will be destroyed if I do not pay for a service that General Motors was not even able to provide.

Consumer Complaint: My lease completed in XXXX. LEASE WAS PAID IN FULL. My wife returned the car and received a remaining lease obligation quote after inspection and it stated the amount owed was {$0.00}. I got a call 2 months later saying I owed {$430.00} ( approximately one month of my lease ) for just returning my car. Confused, I argued with the person on the phone. She was nasty, unhelpful and abusive with threats. in previous lease returns, I've never been charged for simply dropping off my car especially when I asked the person who inspected it if there were any charges and they said " NO, you're all good. '' Since we decided against getting another XXXX, we didn't lease a new car from them. That is when apparently they decided to charge me this nonsense fee. After the conversation, our world took a turn for the worst. We own a XXXX and our industry was shut down by our governor for COVID restrictions. I completely forgot about this and never received another bill or notice from them EVER for this ridiculous fee. I went to try to buy a house recently and it showed 1 miss payment on my credit score which dropped it 170 points and is currently hurting my chances of buying a home. It is CRIMINAL that these big companies 1 ) can charge nonsense fees at the end of the lease and 2 ) can disrupt someones life for {$430.00} when I just got done 3 years of lease payments with them without missing a payment. The credit report showed it as " missed payment '' which is nonsense. I called the company and paid it immediately and asked why I didn't receive notice that they would hurt my credit. They had no answer but only to say " You asked us not to call you any more so we didn't. '' THAT IS CRIMINAL. I explained the situation and paid immediately and asked them to contact the credit agency and fix the issue. They refused and simply said it would just show up as paid in 45 days. That is absolutely ridiculous in normal times, but in this Pandemic that has destroyed my business and a good part of my life, it is EGREGIOUS and CRIMINAL They refused to work with me or even discuss the charge when they first called me about it. They were ignorant and nasty. If everyone else has to bend during these times, why can't a financial institution like GM Financial who cealrly hasn't been hurt like XXXX XXXXt XXXX. Its CRIMINAL.
