Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX Discover Card called me to offer me a 0 % credit card for the life of the card because I have good credit. They saw that I had a XXXX XXXX with a XXXX high limit on it. They asked me to transfer the balance from my Chase card to the new Discover Card but I would have to pay a one time fee of {$3900.00} but I told them only if the limit was the same as my Chase card and 0 % financing for the life of the card would I consider. He said the limit would be the same or more. He transferred me to a manager and the manager said you only qualify for {$8000.00} with Discover card. I promptly him that I did not want to continue can you please cancel or don't submit the card he said ok. I received the card in the mail 2 weeks later the APR was 0 % until XX/XX/21 instead of what they told me on the phone which was 0 % for the life of the card as long as you pay your minimum balance on time each month in addition to that my APR would be 22.9 % after the initial period ending XX/XX/21. I called Discover and they were in the process of transferring the maximum amount the new card could hold on the account. So I asked Discover to stop it all. The Agent said they will attempt to cancel the pending transfer to the card and cancel the card all together. I insisted that they provide me with some type of confirmation number or proof that the transactions will occur but the refused to provide me with anything over the phone and there policy was to send a letter in the mail. They transferred me 3 times to different people just to tell me that the will only send me an email in 48 hrs or a letter that will come in the mail in the future. Very disappointed I feel like I was deceived right from the beginning. So in the end I believe they will charge me the one time fee of {$3900.00} and transfer {$4100.00} from my XXXX account to max out the {$8000.00} limit on the new Discover Card. Which means I would've paid them {$3900.00} just to get {$8000.00} maxed out Discover Card. This is predator lending at its finest.

Issue: Getting a credit card

Subissue: Sent card you never applied for

Consumer Complaint: I received statement of account ending in XXXX from Discover on XX/XX/XXXX. I never applied for nor received any account from Discover since I paid in full and closed my account. I put security freeze on my account with all the major financial institution to make it impossible for any company from opening any account on my name. I do not apply for any account from from Discover. Discover is sending me statement of account I did not open from them. I want Discover to stop sending any statement to me and if Discover opened any unauthorized account on my name, it should please close such an account. I do not have any account with Discover as such it should remove my name from the list of its customers. I do no want further contact by the Discover credit card. Discover should not open or operate any account on my name. I had earlier reported my complaint with XXXX XXXX XXXX ; I only received acknowledgement. I do not want to wait for Discover to contact me again.

Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2020 I reached out to the customer service team of Discover Financial Services through its in-app messaging function. The purpose of this communication was to consolidate my two Discover credit cards - my exact words were " Hi, I would like to combine the credit line on my two accounts, and close out the older one ''. The customer service representative who responded to my request was XXXX in XXXX XXXX XXXX. She asked to confirm the last four numbers of the account I wanted to close, which I then provided. She then closed out the account immediately without confirming details about the credit line transfer. It was only after she closed the account, and after I inquired again about credit line transfer, that she told me that she was not able to do that. She insisted that I never mentioned anything about combining credit lines, and the account was closed at my request. That was completely untrue, and I am disappointed by how incompetent and dishonest this service representative was. Not only did she lie about my initial request ( which has an electronic trail and can be easily verified in the messaging function ), she closed my account without consent which is a serious violation of my right and has irreversible impact on my credit score. Her incompetence and subsequent inability to take responsibility for her mistake is completely absurd and unacceptable. I hope Discover Financial Services will rectify this situation to reinstate my faith in using your services in the future.

Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX I was laid off from work.. As one can expect I fell behind in my payments to creditors. I notified all of them explaining my situation and asked for forbearance. All were willing to work with me except Discover card and XXXX XXXX ( mortgage company ) I was able to return to work in XX/XX/XXXX. However, I was forced to relocate 4 hours away from my home.. So now more than ever my credit became crucial. I immediately began to make as many payments as soon as it became possible.. However, Discovercard not only refused to give me forbearance.. They also refused to acknowledge that I made a payment of {$440.00} within the grace period for XX/XX/XXXX which I have documented proof that I did. They deliberately posted my payment as late on XX/XX/XXXX after I made an online payment on the XXXX just to show my account as 90 days late. If that isnt bad enough they signed me up for autopay without my consent therefore committing FRAID. So in XX/XX/XXXX when I made a payment of over {$1700.00}. They proceeded to withdraw an additional {$440.00} a few days later ... When I confronted Discovercard and accused them of FRAUD and GRAND THEFT. They responded by saying that they would return the {$440.00} plus any overdraft fees that they caused. They did in fact return the {$440.00} all but admitting to my complaint to charges of FRAUD and GRAND THEFT. but did not include any overdraft funds.. I have since reported this to XXXX on multiple occasions and they refuse to remove this from my credit report..

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2019, XXXX purchases were made by my authorised user, XXXX XXXX at XXXX XXXX for the amounts of {$48.00} and {$82.00} in XXXX, NY. All of these items were returned on XX/XX/2019. The items returned were phone cases and screen protectors for the incorrect phone. Refunds from XX/XX/2019 were for {$48.00} and {$26.00}. Issue: Closing an account

Subissue: Company closed your account

Consumer Complaint: I initiated a wire transfer for down payment closing costs on my home at XXXX on XX/XX/29 with Discover Bank. I checked that this wire was for closing costs and I did not expect to have any more wire transfers in the future. I called to verbally authorize the transfer, confirmed that it was for a real estate closing, and was asked to upload my Drivers License and a bill or W2 to validate my address. I submitted those documents at XXXX, at XXXX I get an email from Discover that there was unusual activity in my account and they have frozen the account. I call Discover - was on the phone with them for 162 minutes, got hung up on twice from two different supervisors. They told me it was a " business decision '' to close my account, and they need to investigate the funds which will take 60 days. Then they will mail me a check IF they determine the funds are legitimate. I have banked with Discover for 5 years, never any issues. I have NO idea why my account was flagged, closed, and funds frozen. I was relying on those funds for my down payment, and now do not have access to them.

Issue: False statements or representation

Subissue: Attempted to collect wrong amount

Consumer Complaint: This complaint is in regards to XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, PA XXXX XXXX who are representing Discover Bank as a debt collector. In a hearing held on XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX agreed to settle the debt for {$2600.00} with {$1100.00} paid from a XXXX XXXX transfer leaving a total of {$1500.00}. We were then advised to make monthly payments of XXXX dollars per month that increased to XXXX dollars per month beginning XX/XX/XXXX. We have been sending money monthly and while not always able to pay the XXXX per month we have diligently sent in a payment of at least {$50.00} every month. Since this judgment, I have paid a total of XXXX, which should leave a balance of {$500.00} at this time. I received a letter from XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX dated XX/XX/XXXX that outlined the judgement, the amount owed, the amount payed, and the remaining balance of XXXX. In this letter there is no mention whatsoever of additional interest and fees. After missing a payment in XXXX of XXXX due to loss of employment from the XXXX XXXX, we received a letter from XXXX, XXXX and XXXX dated XXXX, XXXX with a noted balance due of XXXX. Seeing this balance, which is more than the agreed upon settlement, led me to call XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX. I spoke with a representative on Monday XX/XX/XXXX who informed me that we were being charged interest and there were also court fees in the amount of XXXX applied to our balance. The representative was not able to provide me with a balance as a start number from in XXXX of XXXX. I was led to believe that number was the agreed upon settlement balance of XXXX. Not only did XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX not act in good faith but they deliberately set us up for failure of repaying this debt. While we have been making payments each month the total has been increasing unbeknownst to us. The total is now almost double what we originally owed, and while we thought we were close to paying off our debt we are now even further in debt. We have never received any type of statement from XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX demonstrating our payments, informing us of the interest applied to the amount, and that the balance has continuously gone up due to the interest or whatever other fees have been applied without our knowledge. We feel we are owed at least an adjustment to our balance accordingly due to XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX not acting in good faith and being deliberately obscure with and withholding the details of our repayment. Thank you for your time and consideration of this matter. XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, PA XXXX
