Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: Our boss sent an email ( it was actually a scammer who hacked into her email ) and asked to get 3 gift cards and call and give the numbers to her client who was waiting. She was unable to do it herself at the moment because she was involved in a conference call. She said she would reimburse the cost. She needed 3 separate {$200.00} gift cards. we used our Discover card for two {$200.00} cards. Discover called to ask if we made that purchase which we did. Later that afternoon our boss notified all employees that she had been hacked and to not respond. Unfortunately, several people in the company had already responded. We do have a Police report. The purchase was made at XXXX using our Discover card. We talked to Discover and they basically said sorry you made the purchase but had your card been stolen ... so because we are honest and not lying about a stolen card we do not get refunded the money. Discover has numerous farad/theft protection safeguards in place. They have huge buying power and influence. They could dispute charges with XXXX. I feel they have numerous more avenues of recovery than the average consumer. Providing a Police report should be enough to gain some or all restitution. They basically said there was nothing they could do.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2019, I disputed an item billed to my account in the amount of {$910.00} based on the quality of services I received. I had purchased entry into an establishment which had falsely advertised a XX/XX/XXXX show. Due to the amount of money involved and because our special occasion had been ruined, I contacted the merchant to advise of my problem. The merchant was initially unresponsive, but then slow to come around and try to help me. I called the credit card company to ask how much time I had to file a billing dispute since I was trying to work with the merchant. They told me that I had no time limit to file it. When the merchant finally admitted to wrongdoing, it attempted to comp me another night at the establishment. I advised the merchant that I did not live in the area, that I was only there for a special occasion, that this special occasion had in fact been ruined due to their false advertisement, with guests who had flown across the country to be there, and I asked for a credit back to my account. The merchant again became unresponsive. This time I called the credit card company back to initiate the billing dispute. The merchant had gone back and forth with me, but in the end had resolved nothing and became unresponsive. The credit card company began an investigation and issued a temporary credit. I sent in all email correspondence to them with documentation of the false advertisement. In XX/XX/2019, I received the results of the credit card company told me that the results of the investigation told me that they could not help me because 1. ) the time had elapsed in which they could take back the money from the merchant ; 2. ) that I needed to have something in writing from the merchant agreeing to credit my account. I told the credit card company that I was given the wrong information by the representative when I initially called, that they had in fact told me there was no time limit to file a dispute. Second, the credit card told me that the merchant 's offer to comp me was not enough for them to protect my account and give me a credit. I let the credit card company know that this is why I was turning to them for help, because I was unsuccessful in getting the merchant to do it. If I had to get the merchant to agree to a credit or refund, then what protections is my credit card offering me? Why would I need to seek their help if part of the requirements are that the merchant must agree to a refund or credit in a dispute? This defeats the purpose of a dispute. I called in recently wanting to pay off my card and sought to again speak to someone about this, because it seems like an unfair practice what happened. I was given the same information. The credit card company is unable to help me.

Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: In XXXX of 2020, we opened a secured credit card with Discover. We made all payments on time with no late balances nor issue. We made purchases on the card to just show the credit line was in use and maintained on our credit report. About two weeks ago we received an email asking us to verify some personal information. We submitted the information as requested through the IRS and contacted Discover to ensure that there was nothing else needed for us to regain access to our account and card. Today, on XX/XX/XXXX, they sent another email stating that our account has been closed. When I called to get information, as I thought this was surely a mistake, I was finally connected to a supervisor in account verification. XXXX told me the account was closed for a " business decision. '' We opened an account, paid our secured deposit and upheld every bit of what we were supposed to do. Two months later they decide to close the account for a business decision. We are in the long process of restoring our credit. This did not help, this actually puts us farther back than where we started.
