Issue: Incorrect information on your report
Subissue: Information belongs to someone else
Consumer Complaint: I noticed that discover was reporting an account that i did not open. Upon calling they were not able to assist me as the account was from 2016. Additionally, they told me that they could not help with the correction information to my credit report as they do not delete information. I would like for them to review this information and remove it from my credit report as it is not mine. I have never had an account with them and did not give anyone authorization to use my personal information to obtain a credit card from them.

Subissue: Can't close your account
Consumer Complaint: I am the XXXX XXXX XXXX for my XXXX mother. She wants to close her Discover card ; however, when I've contacted them, they have told us that the account can't be closed because there is a credit balance of {$230.00} on the account. We have contacted them repeatedly over several months, and though they claim they will send a check, they do not/have not. When we contact them about this, they tell us the same thing again -- that we can't close the account because there is a credit balance, yet they will not send the money. We believe this is a puposful attempt to hold her money so they can collect interest on it.

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Problem accessing account
Consumer Complaint: I opened my account with Discover Bank a few months ago and deposited {$12000.00} into my account. On XX/XX/XXXX they suddenly closed my account for no reason, and Im unable to access my fund since then. When I contacted them they said they would send my remaining fund through check within 2 weeks, but after 7 weeks I still didnt receive anything. I tried to contact their security department by XXXX but they were on hold forever, I was on the line for several hours listening to hold music multiple times but nobody ever picked it up. When I call their other departments they always redirect me back to the security department so I have no other way to check the status of my fund now. This is very very frustrating!!!

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022, I mailed my dispute letter to Discover Bank ( see Exhibit A ) and have not received a Response. I need CFPBs assistance in resolving this matter because Discover Bank has provided two different addresses for disputes ( see circled items in the exhibits ). My complaint is that this Discover Bank account was never Delinquent and should never have been reported that way ( see Exhibits B and C ).

Issue: Problem getting a card or closing an account
Subissue: Trouble getting, activating, or registering a card
Consumer Complaint: I have an issue with the Discover Secured Credit Card. I applied and was approved for a Secured Credit Card. After several e- mails from them I sent in my {$200.00} security deposit. I received the card within 3 days and received a e- mail stating they could not " verify " my social security number. the company forwarded me a document to verify this through SS which I completed and returned to them via - email as they requested. During this time, they froze the card would not allow me to activate the card until they completed their process. Discover received my funds on XX/XX/2022. Discover decided that my paperwork was not adequate and sent an - email stating they closed my account ( never opened ) and I would receive my funds. Today is XXXX XXXX and after several telephone calls with extreme waiting times ( 30 min plus ) I have not received my {$200.00} deposit. the money was drafted out of my bank on XXXX XXXX. I have called several times to be told it would be 10 business days, well now it's been a month I have no access to credit and no deposit. My question is what happens on my credit report ( an account that was never opened and closed ) and where the XXXX is my deposit? Why has it taken this much time and why was the funds returned as they were received via bank ACH?

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Can't close your account
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022, I received a debit card from Discover Bank. I was concerned because I do not have an account with Discover Bank. I immediately called Discover Bank to let them know that the account was fraudulent. Instead of closing the account, I was transferred to their fraud department which over a two-day period, I spent more than six hours on hold trying to speak to someone. One time, after being on hold for XXXX hours, I was disconnected and had to try again. Once I finally got to speak to someone late at night on XX/XX/XXXX, I was told that the account would be investigated but not closed immediately. When I asked when it would be closed, I was told that I would have to fill out some paperwork which I would receive in the mail. I have not received any paperwork in the mail, so as far as I know this fraudulent account which was opened on XX/XX/2022, is still open. I am also concerned that my identity was used so easily to open a fraudulent bank account with Discover Bank even though I have had a credit freeze with all credit bureaus for several years. I froze my credit because my personal information has been compromised in the past which was caused by security and data breaches at different companies.
