Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: I cancelled my yearly membership with XXXX XXXX before the billing date in XXXX of XXXX. I noticed that despite cancelling that I was still charged. On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted XXXX 's customer service via text and they stated via text that my account was cancelled and that I would receive a credit for {$100.00} on my Discover card within XXXX business days. That did not happen, so I opened up a dispute case with Discover. Discover initially ruled in my favor, but sent me a message a few days ago that they had put the charge back on my card because XXXX disputed. According to Discover, I have no recourse. I have been treated unfairly by both Discover and the merchant.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2022 I disputed a charge on my Discover business card in the amount of {$210.00}. I uploaded relevant documentation at that time. On XX/XX/2022 I called as to the status of my dispute. On XX/XX/2022 I received notification that Discover found in favor of the merchant. I interpret XXXX as the credit card company has 90 days to resolve a dispute. This is beyond 90 days. I did my due diligence providing extensive documentation and calling before the 90-day deadline to check on the status of the dispute. I called Discover on XX/XX/XXXX and spoke with a supervisor who informed me that Discover has 120 days to resolve a dispute. That is not my read of XXXX XXXX

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/22 Discover Bank froze all my accounts ; I was told that this was because there was suspicious activity on the account. I spent a total of 4 hours waiting on hold before I was able to get through to their Security team. I spoke with a Security team member and attempted to resolve the issue, but instead of unfreezing my account, I was unexpectedly told that as a " business decision '' all my accounts were being closed and that I would receive a check for any remaining funds in 60 to 90 days. I was given no specifics as to why my accounts were being closed. I do not understand how this escalated from my account being frozen to my account being closed. Because they closed all my accounts ( checking and savings ), I have lost access to funds I need to pay my bills for at least the next 2 months. As their actions coincided with the first of the month, I wasn't able to pay my rent on time and I will be forced to pay almost XXXX dollars in late fees and penalties.

XX/XX/2022 - Security Specialist phone rep was reached and she reviewed the uploads and determined my account successfully Verified. She then immediately removed hold and unfroze funds. - Only 10 minutes after that I was logged out of my online account and had a Hold/ Freeze placed again. I called back only to be informed my account was in the process of being closed due to being an At-Risk Customer per Company decision . After 4 days of complaints from myself Ive acceptance the fact that the banks policy states it may close an account for no reason needed. My issue/ Complaint is Why am I not allowed to retrieve my funds ( cash/ check ) at their singular available U.S Branch location per several reps. Instead must wait XXXX weeks to have it mailed to me. They state its their policy and it takes weeks to close it then months to send it. Ive informed them that I would like to close my account then immediately so I may get my money quicker, They state its not how it works. WHY Was my account closed only after a specialist unfreezing it after reviewing requested documentation to only have it eventually frozen and in closing within 10 minutes. And why am I not able to go to the branch and pick up my money like any other bank why are they freezing my funds from me for an unreasonable amount of time and being very shady.

Consumer Complaint: I recently opened up a checking account with Discover Bank. I deposited money in there for use during my XXXX XXXX for work ( XXXX XXXX ). Two days ago, Discover froze my account without warning and without any information given. When I call Customer Service to get information- I am told that only the Security Team can provide me information. When I call the Security Team - I sit on hold for hours. The system cuts the call off at exactly 3 hours and 2 minutes every time. I have spent a total of 18 hours on hold trying to get ahold of the Security Team so that I can get my account unfrozen, withdraw my funds, and close the account and take my business elsewhere. Eighteen hours on hold! Two days without ability to access my money. No information given for the why the account is frozen. They are literally holding my money hostage. According to their social media accounts, this is happening to numerous customers - everyone with the same description : frozen account without warning, no information given, told to call Security Team, on hold for hours no matter time of day, call ends at exactly 3 hours and 2 minutes, and multiple days of trying to reach someone without success.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX, Discover Bank froze my checking and saving account that houses all my finances that includes my work checks that get automatically deposited as well as my savings. I have tried since the XXXX to contact 3 numbers that they have given to me to get it unfrozen but have sat on hold for 3 to 6 hours with no contact. Now I am becoming aware that there are other bank holders that have had no access to their accounts going on three weeks. I have a XXXX and need access to my funds for my medication and there is no way to get it. In addition, of course maintaining lively hood so I am not homeless. Discover has not made a statement or reached out and I am at a loss of what to do because talking to someone from discover is the only way to get my account unlocked and like many we can't get anyone.
