Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt was paid

Consumer Complaint: Received a letter from XXXX XXXX ( XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, RI XXXX ) regarding payment due on a LOC secured by my home. In the letter they said they would " settle your account with one payment in the amount of {$1100.00} which is equal to 80 % of your outstanding balance. Upon receipt of your payment, your account will be considered settled-in-full and will notify the credit bureaus accordingly. '' Letter is date XX/XX/XXXX. I wrote a check and mailed it on XX/XX/XXXX, check # XXXX in the amount of XXXX on the FOR line I wrote " balance on XXXX XXXX ( which is the home the LOC was taken against ). On my cancelled check XXXX stamped it " received XX/XX/XXXX ''. On XX/XX/XXXX the check cleared my bank account. The amount that was suppose to be forgiven was {$280.00}. And I had been faithfully making payments. I subsequently received a collections letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX, PA XXXX. My daughter, XXXX XXXX XXXX, who has full POA, wrote them a response, attaching all the above mentioned documentation and mailed it XX/XX/XXXX. They never responded. Today, XX/XX/XXXX a letter arrived in the mail from Convergent ( Convergent Outsourcing Inc, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, WA XXXX- for mailing the address is XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, PA XXXX ) demanding payment for the {$280.00} - the amount the bank indicated they would forgive if I paid the {$1100.00}. My daughter XXXX will respond to this letter as well - as I am XXXX XXXX XXXX, she now handles all of my finances. I find this repeated contact to be harassing and a form of elder abuse. I faithfully paid the bank in accordance with their written instructions. Neither myself nor my daughter should be having to continually respond to these letters, not to mention the costs involved with writing and mailing these letters certified, return receipt. I am very fortunate to have a daughter who is a XXXX and can read and understand these documents and knows that they are false claims. Most people in my situation would think this was a legitimate claim and just pay it- thus being " swindled '' out of money that actually is not owed. It is rather unconscionable behavior- which is why I am taking the time to report these institutions - I know they will receive the letter from my daughter it will be dropped - until the bank turns it over to the next collection agency. Any help you can give to stop this situation would be greatly appreciated- not to mention stopping this practice being done to other elder people. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt is not yours

Consumer Complaint: Hello. In XXXX of XXXX I received a letter in the mail from XXXX XXXX XXXX. This collection agency claimed that I owe {$7000.00} to XXXX mobile services. I called XXXX and a representative said that I owe no such amount. The only service of XXXX I had was Internet, which was paid monthly and cancelled before I sold my house. The representative said accruing that amount would be impossible, xfinity would cancel the account long before. I researched XXXX XXXX XXXX and according to comments on XXXX is an obvious scam, bullying people into paying debts they do not owe. Unfortunately this is on my credit report and I can not buy a house due to my credit score tanking XXXX points. I contacted XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXX as recommended by my real estate lender and they said a few months ago that the debt should be off of my account but that it is out of their hands at this point. On XX/XX/XXXX I received a letter from Convergent outsourcing inc stating that they are a debt collection and that I owe {$7000.00} to XXXX XXXX I do not know what to do at this point so I am reaching out to every avenue I find. Please help me get this off of my credit so I can move on with my life, thank you.

Issue: Took or threatened to take negative or legal action

Subissue: Threatened or suggested your credit would be damaged

Consumer Complaint: I attached the letter that I sent in XXXX to my bank, XXXX, and Convergent. No response. I sent the following email on XXXX XXXX, 2022 : Convergent Outsourcing, I AM DISPUTING THE XXXX COLLECTION BILL. I want all attempts to collect a debt from me on XXXX XXXX ' behalf to cease. I need proof of the debt claim that I supposedly owe money, such as a copies of my bills, correspondence, and date the prepaid shipping label was purchased and it's tracking history. I want the bills documenting the charges that already occured for the device ( XXXX XXXX ), the credits for them refunding for charging me the device even after the device was received shipped XX/XX/XXXX. XX/XX/XXXX I was credited {$59.00} for being charged for the device after it was confirmed by XXXX that it was received. I was continually charged even after the credit and was told the issue was resolved. Month after month I called XXXX and was reassured, but still charged. I want ALL of the documentation. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), I have the right to dispute inaccurate information. I have received little documentation on this account. Both XXXX and Convergent have refused to provide me with proper documentation or respond to my documents that I was asked to provide. What has been provided to me is inaccurate and incomplete information. I have the right to these documents. This account has an incorrect balance and incorrect dates provided for the device received. I want to know when my old phone ( XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX ) was deactivated and reactivated. I want to know when the XXXX was activated and reactivated. If proper and accurate documentation is not disputed and provided to me. I will file a complaint against Convergent with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ) and the XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ). My complaints are about inaccurate reporting and failure to verify a debt. It is a violation of federal law for XXXXXXXX XXXX to report inaccurate or incomplete information on your credit report. I have a legal right to request debt validation on an alleged debt. By law, you have 30 days to prove that the debt is really true and the total amount is accurate. It is my policy that all correspondence are in a reasonable, timely manner and in writing via email or mail with your business name included. I want a verification letter as soon as possible. The verification letter should include ; Name and contact information for the original creditor. This doesnt mean Convergent, but the first creditor, XXXX , whom I did business with. Why does XXXX and Covergant believe I owe the debt? Considering the immense amount of admission on XXXX end and proof that they were responsible for the error. Stating they would correct the error. All recorded owners of supposed debt. The amount of the debt and the date at which it was first incurred. Finally, the letter should include the authority under which the collector is attempting to collect. It is illegal to lie or persuade me ( Which I did receive over the phone with both XXXX and Covergant representatives ). I have an email from XXXX admitting they received the device and voice recordings of representatives that I spoke with. End of e-mail I also called Convergent on XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX and the technician threatened my credit. She stated that the account would be written off, affect my credit, and collection attempts would continue until I paid. They stated it may be escalated to another company.

Consumer Complaint: My Complaint is directly against XXXX XXXX. I have evidence and proof of several emails exchanged with XXXX, after 8 years of having service with XXXX I was Happy but I switched to XXXX which they false advertised with their coverage map and I was looking to switch Carriers. When I went into the XXXX, FL XXXX XXXX XXXX at XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, FL XXXX the representatives and Manager of this location XXXX and XXXX the salesperson convinced me and falsely advertised by trading in my two paid off XXXX XXXX 's which total XXXX in value that I would be credited towards my first bill. Then the phones or devices, none of them had services and caused me to lose a lot of business as a XXXX and XXXX XXXX and caused me damages, when the devices did not work I went back in the store they couldn't figure it out and because I had just traded in my phones which are worth almost XXXX and worked perfectly fine, XXXX not only charged me for devices on a monthly basis for services that were not rendered properly and there is evidence of this when I returned all the devices back to XXXX and told them I do not want them anymore and switched back to XXXX. They were having huge services issues because of the limitations the government put on XXXX from interfering with the airports and expanding of the XXXX network would interfere with Flights across the USA. During this exact time is when my service interruptions happened and I was no longer able to use my devices. Now XXXX through Bait and Switch Advertising is saying no you have a contract and the XXXX credit for your phones will be applied over 24 months, I told them in the beginning I DO NOT WANT a contract and I pay in full for all my devices, since their devices didn't work I returned all their equipment and shipped it back to them but now they sent my account for {$4300.00} to Collections? For What? I had to pay monthly for interruptions in service and the phones not working since XX/XX/XXXX when I switched from XXXX to XXXX so I not only paid their monthly bills and returned their equipment so I should not owe them any money back. The location in XXXX used False Advertising, bait and switch techniques, when they tried to keep me on as a client I specifically requested new phones because it hadn't even been 30 days yet since the phones stopped working but instead again they sent me re-furbished phones which AGAIN did not work! This is unacceptable for a company to behave in this manner and they are tricking people all over the place. If you XXXX XXXX the XXXX location you will see all the bad reviews of the manager of this branch and location, I also filed a complaint with XXXX directly about this branch but now they have handed this over to collections and they are threatening to ruin my perfect Credit. I'm a person with a high net worth and knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to consumer protection because I'm a XXXX XXXX. No Wireless provider should be able to act in this manner and not be penalized or punished for their actions without violations. In conclusion, I switched to a provider, was on the phone for 3 hours at one point with one of their technicians and you can ask for a call log directly from XXXX of all the issues I reported which they legally should have to provide. All the evidence is there and I have proof of the shipping label they sent back to me and the email of the manager involved who said on the phone from technical support that as long as I return the devices which I have proof of the mailing label that I wouldn't be charged it's like I never switched to XXXX, I'm also still owed money for all the services interruptions since the phones stopped working 2 days after I received and bought all the devices from them before i returned them and they were all defective. My conclusion leads me to believe that XXXX is misleading its customers on a wider scale and a full investigation to XXXX 's reviews/comments online with this location should be reviewed promptly and those affected like me should be given relief with the CFPB investigating this matter as my credit can not be affected, I have a family a mortgage and iXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX I also provide many jobs in my community I'm an honest XXXX and XXXX that puts food on the table for many families and I'm an advocate for 2 Non Profits one called XXXX XXXX XXXX 's who experienced any hardship from their lenders, third parties, or banks during the pandemic backed by attorneys and another one to help with the war effort in XXXX. I'm please asking you to look deeper into XXXX and their advertising techniques, they told me I would get an instant credit for my phones ( ON MY FIRST BILL NOT OVER 24 MONTHS ) otherwise why would someone trade in 2 paid off devices which were already high model XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and latest devices? Instead they stole my phones didn't give me any credit and now looking to bill me for not only monthly charges when I had no service, but bill me for contract cancellation and devices which were already returned to them? How is this right? Nothing about this company 's operations are genuine or honest to consumers, they are using false advertising and bait and switch techniques to get people into contracts and use flashy storefronts and lying about their coverage maps with 5G. I was switching to get the best service possible instead I got XXXX service, stolen devices which were not returned without any credit provided then sent my file to collections? I'm not the only one and this can turn out to be a massive case for the CFPB. Convergent Outsourcing Inc located at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, WA, XXXX is the collecting company threatening me and my credit report which I will not let happen. The public deserves to be treated properly with respect dignity and honesty with business affairs and the way each company advertises. This I know very well because I own 10 companies myself which adhere to XXXX, XXXX XXXX, XXXX laws and statutes in all the states we operate in. This behavior especially from the staff at the XXXX Location listed above was just to sell sell sell and mislead me which is not the right way any XXXX XXXX Branch should be supervised by the manager in charge or having the employees trained in this manner.
