Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit
Consumer Complaint: I opened a new Citibank credit card in XX/XX/2022. It had a low credit limit I was not aware of, much lower than any other credit card I have been issued in XXXX years. Our family took a vacation and we used the card to its limit. By the time we got back, XXXX services I have on auto-pay on the card were sending me delinquency notices. So I phoned Citibank to request an increase in the credit limit and they declined, sending me a written note saying XXXX had told them I had problems with other creditors. I prepaid the bill so the auto-pays would stop bouncing but Citibank told me it might take XXXX days for my ACH transfer to clear the bill. I called XXXX and verified that I have no freezes, locks, delinquencies or outstanding debts. XXXX told me it was okay to tell Citibank that XXXX could see no reason to deny me more credit. I called Citibank twice and relayed this news to them, and twice again Citibank denied my request and sent me the exact same form letter pointing to XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: I am a Citi XXXX card holder. My account info was stolen by some scammer. Fraudulent charges first appeared on XX/XX/2023. I called both the general customer service and the fraud department right away. They couldn't verify my information over the phone and said a letter would be mailed to my address. They told me that there's a temporary hold put on my account so no one would have access to it. On XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX more fraudulent charge appeared. I called again. Same sayings. On XX/XX/XXXX, I used my physical card at a coffee shop to test. It went through, so my card is not put on hold as they said. I called again. Same sayings all the time. Now there's XXXX more fraudulent charge on my account. I can wait for the letter, but during this time period how can the scammer can keep my account? The reps told me several time that it's blocked but in fact it's not! NOT AT ALL! Some transactions can still go through. This is outrageous! I need an explanation NOW. I don't understand how can Citi puts its customer under such a devastating situation.

For the record, XXXX the XXXX whos initiating this disputes under MY NAME. This item is UNKNOWN to XXXX. I dont get why youre claiming these are fraudulent or of a high risk nature. Consumer Complaint: I have a Citi Aadvantage Mastercard ending in XXXX. I dont actively use the card and I received an annual fee of {$99.00} in XX/XX/XXXX. The payment was due on XX/XX/XXXX and I remember making the payment on due date but it posted on XX/XX/XXXX. While the statement didnt close until XX/XX/XXXX, Citi charged me {$30.00} late fees and finance charge of {$1.00}. I had no idea that this late fee and finance charges were on my account. Then in XXXX I received another late fee and finance charge. Now I had a balance of {$63.00}, all made up of just late fees and finance charges that were initiated by a payment made on time but posted a day late. I only noticed because I was just checking my accounts online and saw that my account is past due. I called Citi because my main concern is being reported to the credit bureau. The customer service agent said he could only waive 1 late fees and I need to check with credit bureaus if this account was reported late. I just made the payment of {$63.00} but am writing this complaint because I feel this was unfair to be charged late fees and finance charges for an annual fee on a card I dont use. Yes, I should have canceled the card if Im not using but the flip side is that Citi should also have been a bit customer friendly and waive these late fees and finance charges that originated because a payment was posted a day late.

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX, I received a notice from the IRS stating that Citibank had filed a XXXX with them for the XXXX tax year and that I was potentially liable for almost {$3000.00} in additional taxes due to the XXXX write-off of {$12000.00}. I responded to the IRS stating that I did not believe I was liable for the amount. My husband and I filed a dispute with Citibank XX/XX/XXXX requesting a debt verification or a withdrawal of the XXXX by Citibank within 30 days. As of XXXX XXXX, XXXX we have only received a copy of the XXXX and no other documentation. Our own investigation shows that this debt was allegedly entered into while I was married to my previous husband and per Citibank was cancelled in XX/XX/XXXX. Further, when I divorced my ex-husband in XXXX, he became liable for our joint and individual debts per the divorce decree. I believe that the action taken by Citibank to file this XXXX over XXXX decades after the debt was cancelled is a potential violation of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, the Military Lending Act, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act due to the age of the account, the time between when the debt was cancelled and the filing of the XXXX, and the fact that as a military member and a military spouse, my and my husband 's due process rights have been violated by being made liable for a debt that we should not be. Moreover, because of the laws previously cited, our military service and the circumstances of the actions taken by Citibank, any terms in regard to fees, costs, or interest would have to be heavily modified due to the interest rates limits imposed on any loans or debts incurred before a servicemember or their spouse entered the military, in this case for me and my husband, XX/XX/XXXX. Citibank has not done this and does not appear to have attempted to verify military service as is required by XXXX law. Further, attempts to resolve this by my husband and I have been repeatedly stone-walled by Citibank, XXXX. By not providing the promissory note or credit application information ( debt verification ) as requested in early XXXX, XXXX. By refusing to deal with my husband as an aggrieved party and military member, citing protection of my personal information, even though they have saddled both of us with a HUGE tax debt for a credit card debt that is XXXX XXXX XXXX and should rightly be put against my ex-husband if against anyone based on the divorce decree, and have spoken to him before by telephone and provided him information. We also faxed an additional dispute on XXXX XX/XX/XXXX we Citibank is seemingly refusing to address since it came from my husband ( but included all the documents I've received at OUR home including my own original dispute ) despite the fact that Citibank should know that they are dealing with a married couple. These actions by Citibank are not fair or justifiable and their lack of prosecution ( waiting over 20 years to do this when the debt was cancelled in XXXX ) and stonewalling is making disputing this matter, as we have a right to, nearly impossible.
