Consumer Complaint: Around XXXX XXXX XXXX I closed my credit card with Capital One with a balance on my favor for {$8000.00}. At the beginning of XXXX I called the customer service number to know about the status of my reimbursement. XX/XX/XXXX They asked me for a lot of documentation to prove I had that money under that account and where the money came from. At the end of the call they said they will sent the check. XX/XX/XXXX I called to know about the status of the check, and they mentioned it was lost in the mail and they need to reissue another one. Today XX/XX/XXXX they still don't know the status of my money. I have paid interest for that money and Capital One has not giving me an answer yet.

Consumer Complaint: For the past 9 years, my credit profile has been consistently targeted by hackers who have used my personal information to fraudulently obtain car loans, credit cards, and other loans without my consent. Despite reaching out to the companies involved, I have not received any positive results. This constant breach of my personal information has caused significant hardship for me and has negatively impacted my credit score. Therefore, I am requesting that all creditors remove any negative information from my credit report that was the result of these fraudulent activities. I would greatly appreciate your help in resolving this ongoing issue.

Subissue: Problem with rewards from credit card
Consumer Complaint: Unknown to me, my Capital One XXXX card, with a reward balance of XXXX was closed. Details below. At some point in mid XXXX XXXX XXXX I attempted to make a purchase with my Capital One XXXX card. It was declined. I called the company and was asked to send in proof that I was the account holder. Capital One sent me a link to upload pictures of the front and back of my drivers license. Which I did. After not hearing from them for about a week I called back. The representative said the bar code on the back of my drivers license was not clear enough and asked that I go through the upload procedure another time. Which I did. Again I called them back after a week or so. Still they could not verify account. Next, my wife, who is on the account and I went to the local branch office with our IDs in hand and they still were unwilling to verify that I was indeed the account holder. The next correspondence I receive from Capital One is a letter stating my account has been closed. I called them and asked what happened. The representative stated I was sent notice that I had 45 days to rectify my issue or they would close the card out. I never received such a notification. Ive attached a screenshot showing only one document from Capital One sent to me in 2023 and this was the closure notice. Attached is the closure letter, my last credit card statement showing my reward balance and a screenshot showing all correspondence from Capital One in 2023.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Application denied
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I applied for the Capital One Venture X. I was given a denial but no reason was offered. I was told to wait until the denial letter arrived 10 business days later, which the following words were printed : " Based on your credit report from one or more of the agencies on the back of this letter, there are too many revolving accounts. '' This is not the real reason I was denied. I called on XX/XX/XXXX and asked the Capital One phone representative to manually underwrite my credit application since my XXXX 1040 form accurately reported a gross salary with a verifiable income in the six figures. I was then told by the phone representative ( this representative was not in the XXXX, he identified himself as a US stateside Capital One representative ) that they can not manually underwrite me. The real reason for the denial is the practice of Capital One to deny customers credit who reside in a racially divided geographical area that Capital One has determined constitutes a higher credit risk, who otherwise would be approved based on accurate individual credit reporting. I have eight active revolving accounts, & Capital One ignores that all accounts are in good standing, consistently report a credit utilization of under 10 %, and have a 100 % payment history over all 3 bureaus. With an average age of accounts of 4 years and 8 months according to XXXX, the excuse " too many revolving accounts '' is specious reasoning since an active credit history of " many revolving accounts '' has traditionally been used by all 3 credit bureaus as a positive indicator of low credit risk. According to credit bureaus, the amount and length of revolving accounts is a positive indicator, which makes up 15 percent of your XXXX Score. ( Again, Capital One used this as a illegitimate reason to deny credit and was used abusively to increase my credit risk instead of accurately using it to lower it. ) XXXX XXXX XXXX When the CFPB investigates XXXX they will find a pattern that Capital One applications that receive the denial message " there are too many revolving accounts '' is a dog-whistle reply that's given to people with good credit that live in predominately minority neighborhoods, with the intention of minimizing their credit risk portfolio that lower income neighborhoods legitimately pose to lenders. While it might " feel '' like everyone that lives in a lower income neighborhood " might '' pose a risk, the truth is broad generalizations applied to individuals is an inaccurate measure of individual credit risk which is why we have the XXXX algorithm in the first place, and which Capital One has ignored in my case. This is a direct violation of Capital One 's own credit policies : " The ECOA is a landmark civil rights law that protects consumers from credit discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status and age, among other things. Capital One is proud to uphold the ECOA. Under this law, if your credit application is declined, you have the right to know why. If a consumer suspects a lender has been discriminatory, they can take action, thanks in part to the ECOA. '' https : //www.capitalone.com/learn-grow/money-management/credit-policies/

Consumer Complaint: I had an auto loan with Capital One Auto Finance and unfortunately couldnt afford to make payments after losing my job and therefore my XXXX XXXX XXXX was repossessed XX/XX/XXXX sadly. Capital One hired a repo company who illegally trespassed onto private property for one thing. Secondly, they received over XXXX for their principal balance from the auction but reported it as Charge Off as well as the remaining balance owed as XXXX which is also wrong because I have a settlement with them for a little under XXXX. I have filed a dispute on XXXX and have reached out to Capital One Auto to have them make the correct changes with my reporting so I can get my life back on track and start fresh with my credit reporting but they are intentionally trying to make me take UNNECESSARY lengthy steps for them to start the process. I have all the documentation showing proof of my claims which I got from my account on THEIR website yet them gave me only two options which are to fax the documents ( nobody uses a fax machine anymore ) or mail them their own documents which would take a longer time for them to start any sort of dispute process. I spoke to XXXX and was told that they shouldve updated their reporting on their own but I believe they are lying and stalling intentionally so they receive both the principle AND a tax write off at the same time. Its my fault that I fell behind on payments but what they are doing is wrong and illegal.
