Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023, a bank check from XXXX XXXX in the amount {$15000.00} was sent by XXXX Overnight to Capital One to pay off my credit card account including interest. I HAVE DOCUMENTED RECEIPT OF THAT DELIVERY TO CAPITAL ONE at XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX in XXXX NC. The receiving employee has signed for that check. I began calling Capital One on XX/XX/XXXX to question why it was not yet applied to my account. They responded that they had " no record of that check '' although I sent them a copy of that signed receipt. They continued to charge me interest. After waiting 30 days, XXXX XXXX stopped payment of that check and issued a second check which WAS received and credited to my account. To this day, the interest has compounded and they have not acknowledged that indeed, they lost my first check at their facility, which I have proof of. Documentation was mailed to their dispute center and on XXXX, we received a letter stating that there was no error on the part of Capital One. Interest compounding continued.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms
Consumer Complaint: Opened the credit card because of the promotional offer. Spend {$4000.00} in the first 3 months and receive XXXX points. I spent the {$4000.00} in the first 2 months but the points never came. By the time I called to find out why I didnt get the points they told me that the XXXX XXXX yearly credit card fee was not included in the {$4000.00} and that because of that I was {$62.00} short of the {$4000.00} and I was now outside of the 3 month promotional window. This is a classic bait and switch by Capital one!!!!

Issue: Managing the loan or lease
Subissue: Problem with additional products or services purchased with the loan
Consumer Complaint: To whom it may concern, On XX/XX/XXXX a loan was issued for the XXXX XXXX with myself being the co-borrower. On XX/XX/XXXX I left my marriage due to domestic XXXX, I left everything from my clothing to the XXXX with the primary focus being my safety. Fast forward to present day, I have contacted Capital One Auto Finance twice to request a co-signer release and detailed my reasoning pertaining to having to leave due to domestic XXXX. Knowing that I needed to further support my claim, I explained in detail several other concerns, despite not having the car in my possession I have continued to make the payments, the financial hardship I am experiencing as of present and a very concerning matter. I am presently a XXXX and every day that he drives the vehicle is a risk to me losing my XXXX license. The reason being is his license is suspended, the fact his license is suspended resulted in the vehicle being registered to myself which puts me in substantial jeopardy either financially or with my career or both. As explained before, I explained all of this twice and both times I was given the run around. Yet on their website it discusses that there is a possibility to be granted a release and I quote if you meet certain conditionsmainly, you made each loan payment on time for several years. I have met this condition, I know the ultimate decision is theres, but I am not getting anywhere with Capital One and as one last attempt, I decided to file a complaint to protect my XXXX license and financial future. If necessary I can provide police reports and bank statements to prove I am current with the loan.

Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 I attempted to deposit a check for {$600.00} from a scholarship I received from the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX into my Capital One savings account. XX/XX/2023 I tried to make a purchase using the debit card linked to my checking account, but it was declined. I opened my Capital One app to see if I had enough funds, and I did, but there was a message on both my checking and savings accounts that my funds are currently not available for withdrawal followed by a number to call. I called the number, and after waiting for over 10 minutes, tried to explain my situation to the operator. She told me that unless she could verify the transaction with the scholarship foundation, my accounts would remain closed. She attempted to contact the foundation with no success. After this, I asked what was needed to unfreeze my account, to which she replied that the only way she would be able to unfreeze it is if I was able to contact the foundation myself. I asked if in the meantime I could be mailed a check with the remaining balances in my accounts, and she asked why. I replied that I needed to have access to my money ( which was in my account before it was frozen ) and I cant access the funds while my account is frozen. She said that she would not be able to do this. The call lasted over 30 minutes between waiting for an operator and waiting for her to try to contact the foundation.

Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: I have a Capital One Spark Business credit card since early XXXX and accumulate over XXXX miles on the account. But since the pandemic our business slowed down and I have not been using the account and haven't received account statements regularly since last year. Then they billed me a annual membership fee of {$99.00} XX/XX/XXXX or XX/XX/XXXX but with the USPS service being unreliable, I didn't received the statements, e mail notice or text message notifying me about the account being delinquent or past due. Then I received a statement closing on XX/XX/XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) saying that I have a balance of {$180.00} ( with late fees and interest to double the amount of the annual fee ) and I have until XX/XX/XXXX to pay the amount. When I got the statement on XX/XX/XXXX, I log onto my account online and called Capital One bank immediately and noticed they have credited all my account balance on XX/XX/XXXX and closed my account and told me that all my 310000+ miles are forfeited with the closing of the account. I felt like they did not stand by their statement to give me a chance to pay off the account and closed my account even before I received my statement was mainly wanting to cheat me of all my miles accumulated which is absolutely unfair to me as a consumer. They made money from what I have spent over the years over {$200000.00} then intentionally closed my account and made me forfeited all my miles. I tried to request the reopening of my account, but they refused and just engulfed and forfeited my benefits that I have earned over the years. Plus they didn't stand by their statement to let me pay off the balance before the due date, at which time I have over 20 days to pay them off, a blatant abusive act of cancelling and cheating me of my miles. That's why I have to file this complaint and if possible I will take legal action in small claim court, hope your bureau can help me to get my benefit back. This also hurt my credit score for a few months which was unfair.

Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit
Consumer Complaint: My main issue is that I am unable to speak with anyone at CapitalOne about my total relationship across all accounts, credit, banking, etc. Their customer service is in specific departments, when the issue spans departments. One of the factors that is hurting my credit score is having cards with low limits, which I am seeking to correct, and all those accounts are with CapitalOne. I can fit all those inside my other credit cards... My oldest credit card has had the least amount of credit limit increases among all my other cards by some amount, which is presently {$6600.00} up from {$5000.00} per increase I requested in XXXX. I received notification today another card increased to {$22000.00}, another is {$13000.00}, and ones like my XXXX account is also {$12000.00}. I had another account with CapitalOne for many years that never had an increase from its {$2100.00} limit, and that account was auto closed due to inactivity. I recently closed a Capital One spark business account that was at {$3500.00} after being denied a credit limit increase. I have closed {$5600.00} worth of accounts at CapitalOne, yet only {$1600.00} of that was added to the one card still open. I am weighing the impact on my score of closing that account. In 2019. I had deposited almost {$50000.00} in a CapitalOne money market account. I also have some business checking and savings, that are not really used anymore. CapitalOne has had access to information like that the banks behind my other credit cards do not. Not to mention, my credit score increasing by some XXXX points into Excellent from when I first opened my account. They claim they auto increase the limits, which in some 15 years. I think has happened once. I keep trying to talk to someone about my total relationship across all accounts, which seems to not exist at CapitalOne. They do not have a general customer service department, shockingly. It seems decisions are all made electronically with no possibility of human oversight or intervention. I have called CapitalOne 3 times regarding this situation, and I was told something different the first two times. The issue should have been handled the first call. I should not have to rely on fully automated systems, that do not take into consideration a lot of information. Even worse, I think CapitalOne is intentionally keeping limits low, to hurt credit scores, for their own benefit. It allows them to use that credit report to restrict credit limit increases or the general limit, and also for interest rates, etc. I need a greater limit to improve my score, I need a better score for the limits. But I question the entire situation given how much my credit score has improved, assets etc. I have lived in the same home for 20+ years, have over 50 % equity, plus cash on hand in other bank accounts, investments etc. There is NO legitimate justification for how I am being treated by CapitalOne, nor their systems. I should be able to speak with someone about my total relationship across all accounts, as they are related when it comes to matters like increasing a credit limit. CapitalOne seems to not like customers who have cash on hand, pay off entire balances every month, even when they are 90 % of the credit limit, and have excellent credit. That seems like predatory lending practices...
