Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals

Consumer Complaint: BANK OF AMERICA. Recently in XX/XX/XXXX. I found thousands of dollars claimed to have been deposited in my Bank of America acct., related to a XXXX case paid by a Federal Government office. A check that was deposited in XX/XX/XXXX after opening a Savings acct. I found years of up to date of bank statements that was altered. Fees charged to my acct that I didn't even have knowledge of, transactions made to companies never heard and/or used before. I recently learned of XXXX credits cards used at a business vendor. I found reports on my Credit Report for vendors. I had no knowledge of the BOA activities. I submitted all what I recently discovered to The U.S. District Court of Maryland. Also submitted was a singed letter from former XXXX XXXX XXXX of {$1400.00} from Covid Relief when I only received {$600.00}. There was no reflection of that deposit. I also recently made a withdrawal from one of BOA ATM machines, by taking too much money. I tried to redeposit the money and the ATM rejected the same money given to me. I believe BOA is depositing Fake money into its ATM 's.

Issue: Opening an account

Subissue: Account opened as a result of fraud

Consumer Complaint: I received an e-mail from Bank of America on XX/XX/2023 on my personal e-mail associated with a credit card account that I have with them that my debit card for a checking account was on the way. I did not open a checking account with them. I called them on XX/XX/XXXX and told them I did not open an account. They told me it was the result of fraud and someone had called in with my social security number to set up the account and that I needed to be on alert and contact all my other banks which I did. They also closed the account. I left it at that until I came across and article by XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX stating that BOA has been fined and is paying out hundreds of millions of dollars by yht CPFB due to fraud committed by the bank for opening unauthorized accounts to make their sales numbers look better. It all clicked. The account that was opened was a checking account with a {$0.00} balance. My email address wasn't changed. My password wasn't changed. My phone number wasn't changed. My address wasn't changed. I received the debit card for the unauthorized account in the mail. There were no funds to access nor was there any way for anyone besides me to access them. Either this was the result of the dumbest criminal in the world or the bank opened the account without my authorization and lied to me about it to cover their tracks. I spent DAYS contacting banks, changing user names and passwords, setting up new email addresses, etc., all because some banker wanted to show an extra account opened. Clearly the activities they're being penalized for have not stopped.

Issue: Getting a credit card

Subissue: Sent card you never applied for

Consumer Complaint: I received an email from Bank of America on XX/XX/XXXX stating that I was approved for a credit card that I never even applied for. I then received a text on XX/XX/XXXX stating that my application had been approved and my card would be sent out shortly. Today ( XX/XX/XXXX ) I got an email again from Bank of America stating that my credit card would be sent to my home. At no time did I ever inquire or apply for this Bank of America credit card. I will follow up with the company as well regarding this issue. I am concerned because I have heard recently in the news that Bank of America has been in trouble for doing this to other consumers.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Fee problem

Consumer Complaint: I have been a Bank of America customer since it took over XXXX in 2004. During that time I was DEFINITELY a victim of fee-gouging ( overdraft, etc ). Additionally, I had a loan with Bank of America only to realize it was actually a CREDIT CARD, and I did not receive the benefits of having said credit card. Sadly there are limits on the research I can do within my Bank of America banking portal. How should I move forward to deal with a final amount to be refunded?

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Funds not handled or disbursed as instructed

Consumer Complaint: Since XX/XX/XXXX I was a victim of a scammer who lied about their identity and tricked me into sending money to them. I have since found out that I was a victim of a scammer. One scammer stole {$5900.00} or thereabouts and then I went to who I thought was the real person and the other scammer took over {$320.00} from my bank account through XXXX and convinced me to get gift cards because I stupidly believed they were who they said they were! I reported it to the police when I found out that they proceeded to steal XXXX XXXX in two separate unauthorized withdrawals by wire from my account. I contacted the Fraud department at Bank of America and the local police department in XXXX XXXX XXXX. I gave them the proof of the scam and all the contact info. NOTHING has been done on most of it to my knowledge-no information was found. The debit fraud was closed and deemed NOT fraud just this morning ( why I called for a med increase as my anxiety shot through the roof )!!!! I signed affidavits in the beginning. Now that money ( {$320.00} approx ) is back as a negative in that account at Bank of America. Regarding the XXXX XXXXXXXX from the wire fraud-I found out that the person ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX has closed his account and ran off with the money. My money was taken from me through lies and deceit leaving me literally penniless and my mental health suffered dramatically! I was on suicide watch and I just had my medication increased this morning. Please help me ; for I see a world where thieves and scammers are getting away with this as my family and those I care for are suffering! I put my house on the market because it ruined me and I can't bounce back. I have also been the victim of incredible damage to my home from XXXX XXXX. Please help me.

Issue: Opening an account

Subissue: Account opened as a result of fraud

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2023, I received a letter from Bank of America with an attached ATM card for a new banking account open under my name. I never opened, nor did I give anybody permission to open an account with Bank of America on my behalf. I tried to contact Bank of America customer services and called every phone number provided on the letter as well as on the Bank of America web site. I was never able to talk to anyone. I walked into an agency, but the personnel told me to contact the Customer Service. I then addressed a letter requesting an explanation as of how this account was opened, which I mailed to the Customer Service address indicated on the front page of the Bank of America statement. I never received any response. Later that month, I received another letter informing me of Bank of America 's decision to close the account because they were not able to verify my identity. I then tried again to contact the Customer Service but was still unable to talk to anyone who could explain what was happening. Despite the account being closed, I continued receiving statements from Bank of America until XX/XX/2023. I tried again to contact them - no results. I then contacted a financial attorney 's office, where I was told that it might be the result of an identity theft. Since I was not able to talk to anybody at Bank of America, I can not establish whether this is the case. I then called the XXXX XXXX XXXX where the agent told me to contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Issue: Problem caused by your funds being low

Subissue: Overdrafts and overdraft fees

Consumer Complaint: I opened a direct deposit account with Bank of America in XXXX XXXX TX around 2003. I have had that same account until a few years ago when with no explanation it became an XXXX account. I had been repeatedly double charged in overdrafts when my account was Bank of America from the beginning until the end. I am a single mom and sometimes all I could do was break even at the end of the month. The extra overdraft charges ruined my familys life completely. Ever since the account has been XXXX that hasnt been a problem and financially I am in a completely different place. I have my Bank of America account number still and paperwork to show when my account became an XXXX account. I also still have most of my bank statements from Bank of America.
