Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Funds not received from closed account
Consumer Complaint: I received an direct deposit in my account. After the money was received I was unable to access my online banking account. It instructed me to go in to the Bank of America Firm. I went in and spoke with the Accountants and was told my account was pending closure, and It would be official closed by the end of XXXX. The end of XXXX comes and I never received the check. They were supposed to mail to me so I tried to go back up there. They instructed me that I needed to do a verification process and that they couldnt do it inside the bureau so they had to call another associate its higher up in order to assist. A month goes by and I get a letter in the mail stating that my account has officially been closed and if theyre holding my funds. Mind you I was still getting direct deposits from my job into the account so I have yet to receive any of the money from my jobs for the times I have work. I spoke to Bank of America about the issue and they keep giving me the runaround. Its been over two months and I have yet to receive any of my money. Im behind on bills. Im now going in the debt and in that process I ended up falling behind on my bills

Consumer Complaint: To Whom It May Concern : I am writing to file a complaint against Bank of America for withholding the promised bonuses on my two credit card accounts. I opened a Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards Credit Card in XXXX and a Bank of America Travel Rewards Credit Card in XXXX. Both of these cards offered sign-up bonuses of cash and points. However, after meeting the requirements for the bonuses, I was never awarded them. I have spent many times taking trips and speaking to a banking advisor in the Bank of America branch several times to inquire about the bonuses. I have been told that there was a " system error '' and that I would be awarded the bonuses in the next billing cycle. However, this has never happened. I have also reviewed Bank of America 's terms and conditions for these credit cards. These terms and conditions state that the bonuses will be awarded as long as the following requirements are met : * The account is opened and activated within 30 days of approval. * The accountholder spends a minimum amount of money on the card within the first 90 days of account opening. I have met both of these requirements. Therefore, I believe that Bank of America is in breach of contract by withholding the bonuses. This is not the first time that Bank of America has been accused of withholding promised bonuses. In XXXX, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ) fined Bank of America {$30.00} million for misleading customers about credit card rewards. The CFPB found that Bank of America had offered sign-up bonuses to customers but then failed to provide them the bonuses due to employee error. I believe that Bank of America 's actions in my case are also illegal. The Federal Trade Commission ( FTC ) Act prohibits unfair or deceptive trade practices. In my case, Bank of America made false promises about the bonuses that I would receive if I opened their credit cards. These false promises were designed to induce me to open the cards. I am also concerned that Bank of America 's actions have violated New Jersey state law. New Jersey law prohibits unfair or deceptive business practices. In my case, Bank of America 's actions were unfair because they misled me about the bonuses that I would receive.

Consumer Complaint: On Friday XX/XX/2023 I went to an Bank of America in XXXX SC on XXXX XXXX to deposit {$500.00} in an ATM to my checking account. During the transaction phase after I put the money in the slot provided by the ATM a message appeared stating it was unable to process my deposit. The money was not returned. I immediately called the number provided on the ATM, but as of filing this complaint I have not receive any money to my checking account. I was told that it could take 2 to 10 days to resolve this issue. No other solution was offered and the money was needed to provide funds to purchase an air conditioner for a family member. This is not the first time I have made a deposit to a Bank of America machine only to have the issue resolved several days later.

Consumer Complaint: Bank of America has allowed checking accounts to be opened fraudulently twice with my information. XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. When I called, they kept me on hold for 3 hours, then told me a claim was filed and the accounts would be closed. Neither of those happened. There are no claims, and the the accounts are still opened and being used fraudulently.

Consumer Complaint: This complaint is a supplement to Complaint # XXXX that was filed with the CFPB. I do not find the company response to the complaint satisfactory, especially in light of the CFPB 's recent actions against Bank of America 's practices, including, but not limited to employees of BOA opening up accounts in people 's name. It was never satisfactorily explained to me why BOA allows individuals to open up bank accounts using stolen information without requiring verification on teh front end ( as other banks do - like XXXX XXXX ). Of course, I am not privy to their internal information, but I believe that this account opened in my name may be an internal employee fraud that is the subject of the consent order. Again, I have been paying for LifeLine since this incident occured at {$39.00} per month, and I request that BOA reimburse me for these expenses. LifeLine was not needed until my information was stolen and account opened in my name.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, Bank of America says the began an investigation into my account holding my social security retirement funds for the month of XXXX inside. Since then, the account has been " up for review ''. I have called them tens of times on every number they've given me and no resolution or information on how to get my money back has been given. As of XX/XX/2023 my account is still locked and now the XXXX payment that was sent today has been sent to that account even though I contacted social security to change my information. I am living on the street while my only income, my social security, is being withheld from me by Bank of America.
