Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit
Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX I received an email from American Express that my credit limit had been reduced from $ XXXX to $ XXXX. The decrease was made to barely above my current balance. The company provided a generic response as to why but with no specifics to my account. The past statements show interest charge amounts that as soon as the company charges their interest fees then the balance will go over the credit limit. It is the company 's way to unfairly get more money out of their customers and stop the use of their credit card while still charging yearly fees. Customers can not close their accounts without credit score being lowered. ALSO, once available credit amount decreases so does credit score. Ultimately, what is happening is THE definition of predatory.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Application denied
Consumer Complaint: I applied in good faith for three different business credit cards that American Express required a personal guarantee on which were denied. 15 USC 1602 ( l ) states what the term credit card means and how it is used to obtain money, property, labor or services on credit. 15 USC 1602 ( p ) states what is an unauthorized use of a credit card in which the cardholder or consumer receives no benefit in which I did not receive a benefit. 15 USC 1691 ( a ) ( 3 ) states it is unlawful for any creditor to discriminate against the applicant when the applicant has in good faith exercised any right under this chapter.

Issue: Trouble using the card
Subissue: Trouble using the card to spend money in a store or online
Consumer Complaint: I received several {$100.00} American Express gift cards which are virtually useless and frankly it should be considered criminal activity that American Express is purposefully making the card unable to be used at all major online retailers. The card will not be accepted at XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, and on and on. They claim it can be used anywhere an American Express is accepted, which is a flat out lie. XXXX requires that the card match the cardholder 's name and address ( which American Express is aware of ), but Amex will no longer allow a person to register their name and/or address to a gift card. Presumably so that the card will get declined at every major online retailer ( like is being done ). Again, this is absolutely criminal and an intentional act by Amex to hold money longer or forever from the consumer.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: I placed an order for an item that was to be delivered in 10-20 days. This was a standard item ( a XXXXXXXX XXXX desk organizer ) that was billed at a price about half of other companies. I was immediately charged {$25.00} on a XXXX account which I had charged to my American Express account charge was made on XX/XX/2023. When myAmex statement arrived showing the charge I disputed it ( on XXXX ) as I never received any confirmation from the purported " seller '' nor have I have of of this date received the item I ordered. American Express closed the dispute on the bizarre basis that charge was justified with no explanation provided. I have demanded the charge be reopened as of even date. Any preliminary investigation would have determined that the immediate transfer of an Amex charge to XXXX which I never authorizes, the failure of seller to ever confirm the order and the failure to deliver merchandise after near 2 months is transparently fraudulent. I am entitled to a credit for {$25.00} and a recognition by Amex of its failure to comply with applicable law.
