Their response was " Because your account remained past due it was charged off on XX/XX/XXXX. An account that is charged off indicates that the debt has been written off as a loss to our company due to serious delinquency on the account and does not affect your responsibility for repayment of the balance due. Additionally, it was placed with outside agencies. When an account is assigned to an outside agency, we are unable to assist with account information as you need to work with the agency handling your account. American Express remains the creditor, the outside agency is collecting the balance on our behalf. On XX/XX/XXXX the account was placed with XXXX, an outside agency. On XX/XX/XXXX the account was assigned to our credit department. '' They advised on XX/XX/XXXX the account was assigned to their credit department. I have been harmed by this action due to the fact the company violated 809 ( a ). Validation of debts. Consumer Complaint: on XX/XX/XXXX i purched airline tickets with my platinum america express card. the same day the airline cancelled my reservation. on XX/XX/XXXX early in the morning i contacted an agent from amex travel and he confirmed that my reservation was cancelled by airline. i had prior reservation for the same time in may but since the price dropped for this flight i asked the agent to cancell this booking and issue the credit in a form of eticket which he confirmed. while on the phone with him i told him before he canclled my booking i want to be sure that the flight is still available. he told me to book it myself and after this he will cancel my booking and he did issuing the credit for {$510.00} each for 3 tickets. the other booking which was cancelled by jet blue and by me within 24 hours was entitled for a full refund not the eticket credit which i received. i contacted the amex travel 3 times waiting on line to be transferred to different people for 2 hours but no success. i was told that somebody will get back to me. i waited 12 hours no response. after that i was told 72 hours still no response. this is an unfair and deceptive practice toward consumers who should'n suffer due to incompetent agents. the company should provide a proper training and establish the time frame to contacting customer. needless to say that i spoke with supervisor who was also of no help and never called back. i am expecting ames to ctedit my account for {$1200.00}.

Nothing will work. They want your money and nothing else. Every single department is a joke. They will not help you no matter what evidence you provide them. Their entire goal is to gather information to support their position, don't bother talking to them if you get scammed. Don't provide them any information at all.

Consumer Complaint: I paid off an American Express XXXX card in XXXX of XXXX. They sent a replacement card that summer but I did not activate it. Since then, they have been charging me the annual fee in XXXX, XXXX and XXXX. When I called in, they cancelled the card but only gave me the XXXX money back. I know it is small, but I did not activate the XXXX card. In the past, I have tried to investigate this but the website does not allow me to log in and does not recognize any of my emails that might have been tied to the card. They still billed me. I know that I should have called in sooner, but these fees are so automatic and hidden in the course of everyday life. And my family was hit hard by covid. I find it frustrating that AmEx fine print says I have to call in to cancel. Not activating a card seems like cancelling to me. Also, the only card sent to me was in XXXX. None in XXXX or XXXX. That would have alerted me if they had sent out cards. Right now, I paid {$100.00} in XXXX and {$99.00} in XXXX. They have refunded me XXXX payment. Thank you for listening. Everything was fine until around XX/XX/2017 when I told AMerican express, via phone, that my bank account on file experience fraud and I had to change the payment account with american express to another due to this. We changed the payment account over the phone. The next payment was never taken out of my new account. American express kept on trying to take it out of my old account. I did not realize this because they never called me and I set up auto pay with my new account. It took a while for me to realize it. This is when they closed my account in XX/XX/2017. I would like to have the charge off and closed account removed from my credit because this is the fault of American Express. I've reached out to American Express several time throughout the years and tried disputing it with them and the bureaus so I turned for CFPB because no one would listen. I filed a police report and a report with XXXX XXXX. American Express should check their phone records to verify what I'm saying and remove this account from being reported to the 4 major credit bureau agencies.
