Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals
Consumer Complaint: My account was locked and then closed after I received a deposit from the SBA treasury. I had this account for about 2-3 years, and get direct deposits every week. I called the bank a few days in advance to make sure that the deposit would get deposited because it was for {$10000.00}. I got the deposit Wednesday XX/XX/2021 at XXXX. I withdrew {$400.00} in cash from an ATM. At about XXXX I tried to access my account on the App, however it was saying my password was invalid. The next morning I tried to withdraw cash and was unable to access my account. I then called the customer service number and was told my account was locked. The representative couldnt tell me why. I made several calls and was only told that I have to write a letter to their compliance department and the address is a P. O. Box, which is very suspicious. I called back several times to get a clear explanation of what am I supposed to include in the letter and still nobody can answer me. I asked them if the issue was the deposit from the SBA, can they send the funds back to the SBA, and they told me that they are not able to do that. Can someone please help me get my money back or have the money returned back to the SBA. This is a crime. Ive been waiting for this money for over a year, and this bank basically is trying to steal it.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Application denied
Consumer Complaint: When considering booking a flight on XXXX I was offered a promotion for a American Express card, offering both a waived annual fee, a {$200.00} credit and XXXX airline miles. When I clicked through to apply for the card, a popup said I was eligible to apply for the card, but not for any of the " welcome '' benefits due to either having had a similar card before or the number of American Express cards I've had in the past. It feels like a bait and switch, and the reasons for denying the welcome offer are vague. I contacted a company representative on XX/XX/2021, and they said " I'm sorry to hear that you are not eligible for the welcome offer. Within the message that you received it should have the reason as to why you are not eligible. I would not have anything beyond what the message displayed, I'm sorry. You are still able to go forward with the application if you choose and take advantage of the main benefits that the card has to offer. ''

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: I am a victim of identity theft which have created a great deal of pain and suffering. I submitted an identity theft report complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. My consumer rights of me being a natural person under the Fair Debt Collection Privacy Act USC 1692 and Fair Credit Reporting Act 1681 are being violated. Amex are breaking federal law attempting to collect a debt that is not owed. I do not owe Amex bank any money and demand that they stop attempting to collect the alleged debt and delete any internal records of the alleged debt and stop the false reporting to the credit bureaus ( XXXX, XXXX and XXXX ). I am also requesting an audit trail according to XXXX that any money was given to me. If any account was created using my social security number ( which I didn't authorize ) that would make me the creditor not the debtor. How can the creditor owe any alleged debt? They can not according to congress! 15 USC 1692 states that it is fraudulent to furnish a deceptive form to make me think I owe an alleged debt when they became a " debt collector '' after " Me '' the Original Creditor creates a creditor by giving them credit to extend back to me. I do not owe any alleged debt and demand that the alleged debt be deleted immediately or I will seek remedies for the violation of my consumer rights under congress law!

Subissue: Problem with balance transfer
Consumer Complaint: I contacted American Express to ask how I could transfer my total balance [ {$5200.00} as of XX/XX/21 ] to a new card. They informed me that this is not an option. I was confused and this is my first time trying to transfer a balance to a new card. I'm starting a new job and am shopping for a business expense card that had a balance transfer option. I was shopping with XXXX for a mastercard and decided to check with American Express to see how that process would go. I just got off the phone with American Express. They said they don't do balance transfers right now -- for about the past year. I asked the representative, XXXX, to escalate my inquiry and find out exactly why they won't do balance transfers. I was put on hold for few minutes and he came back with a response that it was because of Covid. I was dumbfounded and said that is unacceptable. He said he knew that wasn't a great answer and he had no further information. I asked to file a complaint and he agreed -- then proceeded to tell me that after I file my complaint, the company may or may not get back to me -- at all. I found this egregiously unacceptable and asked who I could file a further complaint with. XXXX put me on hold and came back and said the XXXX XXXX XXXX. From my schooling, I remembered the CFPB and their vital role protecting consumers, which is why I'm filing this complaint. My complaint confirmation number with American Express is : XXXX. They gave no reasoning about why they will not process my balance transfer left me with no option than to seek help from the government about the issue. They try to use their weight and power to do whatever they want without explaining themselves, but I'm the consumer and I pay them interest monthly. I do not accept that they felt they don't need to answer for their policy to their paying customer and I'm humbly asking for your help in making them answer more fully and with accountability to their consumers. Thank you in advance for your dutiful consideration and diligence in helping me get more information and, hopefully, an equitable result to their black-box decision. I feel wronged.
