Consumer Complaint: I was charged for unauthorized items at a restaurant called XXXX. I was only supposed to be charge for a pineapple soda for {$4.00}. However the waiter accidentally charge me for 2 additional items that were supposed to be put on another bill. It was a large party and he mixed up the charges. I did not signed the receipt and handed it back to the server and there was an argument with the merchant. They told me if I had an issue with it to dispute it with my credit card company. Therefore I disputed with Amex and wrote a letter explaining the situation. However Amex sided with the merchant without any proof but the incorrect unsigned receipt. This is ridiculous and Amex is not doing their part.

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX, XXXX XXXX I entered into a settlement agreement with American Express as a result of civil suit filed against for outstanding debt for account ending in XXXX. As a result of the settlement, American Express and I agreed for me to pay {$18000.00} over the course of 12 months in installments of $ XXXX. The terms of this agreement were met on with my last payment on XX/XX/XXXX. I received paperwork between XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX from the law office ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ), the state court of XXXX XXXX and American Express staying that my account was settled and paid in full ( documents attached ). American Express is still reporting to the credit bureaus that I have an outstanding balance of {$11000.00} and is not willing to honor the previously agreed upon settlement after many attempts. I would like my credit reports to reflect this account is settled and paid in full and no further calls from American Express saying I owe a false amount.

Consumer Complaint: I am having a problem with my bluebird American express prepaid card account. I recently was approved for a targeted advance XXXX XXXX and it was deposited into my bluebird account the amount was $ XXXX after it was deposited I received a text message saying my funds were deposited successfully ( I will be submitting this text about being deposited successfully ) I received this text on XX/XX/2022. I then went to the bank and drew out {$600.00} cash from an atm machine, then I came back home and I tried to pay my insurance and it would not let me so I went on to my account online and my account was locked so I then called customer service at XXXX they told me that it had been locked because I violated some XXXX code in their member agreement and that they couldn't do anything and didn't have any more information on it that if I wanted my account unlocked or more information I would have to write to them that that was the only way of communicating with anyone that could help me. So, I wrote them a letter asking why my account was locked and suspended and asked them why they even accepted the deposit and added it to my account if this is what they were going to do why didn't they just refuse the deposit and send it back to the bank it came from so I could have had it deposited to another account why put it in my account and give me access and then lock it. ( I will submit a copy of the letter I sent to ) and now they won't even answer when I call them I call from another phone they answer but once I put in my info it hangs up, also I have no online access to anything no past transactions or anything it just says my account is locked I have had this account for like XXXX years now. I have waited like a week already for an answer from them pertaining to my letter I wrote them and still haven't received a response and I know that there are several other people that have experienced this same issue and don't know what to do. Why haven't they just closed my account and sent me the remaining funds that are on my account, I don't understand this? Also, I had my taxes going to this account as well and I don't know if they accepted them or have them or sent them back or anything because I have no access to anything to do with my account all I get is daily text messages saying what my account balance is ( I will submit this as well ) I want my account restored or my remaining funds sent to me or I am going to have to get a lawyer to get them I guess I really don't know what to do but they are causing me financial grief and with the pandemic, we all have enough of that already. My federal taxes was for {$3000.00} in case they have them still or deposited them. I really think they are trying to pull some kind of scam or something on people because people I have talked to say they are still waiting for a response or their money and that it has been months I don't get months to be waiting for my money I need it now I have debts that need to be paid rent that needs to be paid etc... If you can help me or guide me on what I need to do it would be appreciated very much.

Consumer Complaint: I updated my payment profile online to draft my minimum payment from my new bank account. Somehow the payment profile was updated from auto payment of minimum payment due to statement balance. American Express then attempted to charge my account {$21000.00} rather than my usual {$500.00} minimum payment amount. I immediately called them to get it resolved and was told that there was nothing that they could do and to call my bank. I called my bank and was told I could either pay {$30.00} to place a stop payment or allow the account to overdraft or reject the payment. About a week later American Express attempted to draft my account yet again! I immediately called them to see what was happening and this time was told that the system automatically attempts to draw a rejected payment 3 times and that there is nothing that they can do to stop it. I asked for management was placed on hold then told again that there is nothing that they can do to stop it, never getting transferred to a manager. My bank account is now in limbo while American Express keeps trying to charge me an unauthorized amount.

Consumer Complaint: AMEX has changed its handling of " cancelled '' credit cards such that a cancelled card will still work with a merchant if that merchant has the card on file. For example, if you cancel your card your old " cancelled '' card will continue to work on XXXX. AMEX 's online portal does not show whether a transaction is made under the old or new card. Nor does not provide an independent means of placing a freeze on transactions conducted under the old card. There is no easily identifiable option on the website to fully cancel the old card. If you contact customer support they will put in an order request to stop processing purchases made on the cancelled card with merchants who have the card on file ( a universe that likely encompasses most of online retail ). Per Amex Customer support, this can take up to five days to process -- this latter fact was only shared after I noted additional charges that were made on the old card. Those charges were not made by me, but they weren't exactly disputable either : they were likely made by one of my nieces or nephews on my deceased father 's XXXX account -- the sort of transaction that cancelling an old card prevents. During my second attempt to cancel my old " cancelled '' card, Amex stated reason for this continued, unwanted charging of my credit account against my wishes was " convenience. '' However, they did not specify whether this was convenience for me or convenience for the numerous merchants who rely on subscription fees for their operating model. Indeed, I am reminded of a merger agreement I was saw in which there was considerable concern that the party being acquired might have to disclose the fact to its customers that they were being bought -- since more than 90 percent of its revenues were derived from customers who had not used those services in over a year and had likely forgotten they were auto paying. This was well before the ubiquitous rise of XXXX and other subscription fee models. My opinion is that this is likely a structural fraud designed to benefit merchants at the expense of consumers who would naturally expect that subscription services on cancelled cards would no longer process. Worse still, is the absence of readily identifiable means of seeing that charges continue to process from cancelled cards and the relative difficulty ( I have contacted Amex 4 times prior to filing this complaint, including requesting to be contacted by a member of their XXXX department ). Indeed, I am not entirely certain if the requests I have made would result in " all '' charges being declined under my old card. If it this difficult for a XXXX XXXX XXXX to cancel a cancelled credit card there can be no reasonable expectation for the average consumer.
