Consumer Complaint: I am going through a divorce and per legal advice I called American Express and cancelled my credit card and requested/was sent a new credit card. During that call I was advised that the old card would no longer be valid for any charges which included reoccurring charges or individual charges. My new card arrived so I was confident and comfortable that all had been taken care of. During this time I moved to a new residence. I rarely used the card and knew what my balance was at the time so I did not frequently check the account online as I had automatic payments set up for each month. After about a month and a half or two I did go to American Express online account after I used the card for a down payment on a couch. To my surprise I found that there were roughly XXXX of new charges in that month and a half - 2 month period of that I did charge. After review I found that my wife whom i am going through a divorce with was using my old card which I was told was no longer valid. The next 3-4 weeks were frustrating going back and forth with American Express . Not being called back when I was told I would, being provide contradicting information. I initially was told that all of the charges I disputed were reoccurring charges and there was no way to stop those even with canceling and ordering the new card. I was provided all contact info for all those companies and called them all. They all told me as my wife was the account holder there was no way for me to remove the card or would have to be her. After that I called American Express back and spoke to a manger who advised me that the representative was incorrect and there was in fact a procedure to cancel reoccurring charges and the person I initially spoke to to cancel and order a new card did not follow that procedure. The call was pulled to validate my story. I was then told the issue is being forwarded to that representatives manager and i wild receive a call back. I never received a call back. I called again and spoke to a representative who pulled the call and looked into everything who then told me they werent reoccurring charges they were actually individual charges. Completely contradicting everything I was told up to that point. Now I was being told that because they were individual charges they would not be able to credit. Again another contradiction and also consider that these charges were made with a card I was advised was cancelled and no longer valid. I was going through a divorce and we share a child. I advised and my position was I do not want to file fraud against my wife and cause any legal trouble, we have a child together and at the end of the day this American expresses fault. I spoke to a manager after that who advised the best course of action was to file a complaint with corporate as although they understand my position and would be upset as well they dont have the authority to credit the account. I was given an email address to the executive office and sent an email with my story. I was told they they pulled the call and did find the error but are unable to issue a credit for the charges because if the card is used by someone else even if not signed or presented I am responsible for payment. My short rebuttal to that was the card that was used to make the charges was a canceled card but was still able to be used! This is an error on American Expresss end which they should be fully responsible for. IN my email to their executive office i advised that some of the charges made between those few months were legitimate that i charged on the new card that was sent to me and provided them a list of those charges.

They then went back and lowered my personal Amex card from 10,000 to 1,000 which is a drastic and unfair decrease and in return also caused my utilization to go up and my credit score to drop.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I received regular mail an offer : " Add an additional cardholder and spend XXXX dollars within 6 months and get XXXX back ''. Before I apply I call because the offer didn't have any code or special invitation numbers, the answer I received was that because it was a targeted offer all I had to do was to comply with the requirements and they will honor the offer. In XXXX using their chat services I wanted to ask if I already complied with the offer requirements and their answer was that they don't see any offers, since then I have talked to about 16 different agents via chat and over the phone. They asked me to upload the offer and I did. Today after 45 minutes on the phone a supervisor told me that my claim is only been opened for 4 days. She told me that at this point all she could do is to provide me a USXXXX credit, I declined because all I want is to get what they offered and I earned. They didn't offer me a follow or anything similar. I did pay USXXXX for the additional card and and the USXXXX points only represent about a USXXXX dollars profit for me if I use for travel. I am not dong this for any extra money is because of basic principles

Consumer Complaint: I was told by amx that I called in XX/XX/XXXX I called to say I lost my gold card.i did not make this call and a card was sent out. I stopped using my gold gard XX/XX/XXXX. I didn't find out about this card until XXXX. I filed for XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX and I never got the bill because I'm sure it went to the address they mailed it to. I was trying to pay the bill inXXXX when I was sent the statement that's when I found out about the account. They have taken all the charges off my account but I paid on that card because I didn't know I was paying on that card. At that time they didn't name the card they just gave the number they don't do that any more but that's how I paid on a card without knowing. I have sent them copies of there statements to prove the payments that I made and I have been waiting since XX/XX/XXXX to get my money back. One day they don't know what I'm talking about and start over. Another day they need more information. Or the back off is still working on it and have not updated them. It has been almost two years. And nothing. In XXXX I was given a name and was told he had the account since XXXX. XXXX I was told in 30 days it should be handled. Here we are in XXXX and nothing. I had a lawyer send a demand letter in XXXX and they had 10 days to respond and nothing. The lawyer told me to come to you for help because it's not enough money to pay a lawyer. It is close to {$2000.00} or more I need my money. This is there mistake and they need to fix this. I got a letter years back telling me they changed my address I called to say I never changed my address that should have been a red flag to them if I'm saying I never changed my address and the was changed. Please help me get my money back soon.

Consumer Complaint: I pay {$450.00} per year for Amex 's consumer credit card, the XXXX XXXX XXXX card. The terms of the card is that in return, I will receive a XXXX point free night certificate every year between 8-12 weeks of my account opening. I opened this credit card on XX/XX/XXXX, which Amex has confirmed and acknowledged. XX/XX/XXXX was my 1 year account anniversary. 12 weeks, the maximum time a customer should have to wait to receive the certificate, was XX/XX/XXXX. I STILL have not received the free night certificate, which was promised to me per the terms of paying this high annual fee. I have tried to escalate my case with Amex, and they brush me off saying my dates are wrong, work it out with XXXX, etc. Their customer service reps are awful and can't resolve my case. I'm holding up my end of the bargain. Why is Amex dishonoring the terms? As a result of their tardiness, I'm unable to book the hotel that I'd planned to use the free night certificate for. I'd have been better off never paying for this card 's annual fee in the first place and booking my hotels on time!

Consumer Complaint: I have had an american express card for 28 years, about 2 years ago there was fraud on the card and American Express closed the account and issued an new account number. At the time of the fraud I spoke with American Express and stated that no subscriptions should be carried over to the new card. However for the past two years, charges for XXXX XXXX were charged to the cancelled card and transferred to the new card despite my express instructions at the time of the fraud that no subscriptions would be transferred to the new card. During the interim I contacted XXXX but they had my boyfriends information linked to the cancelled card number so I was unable to verify the information. I would like the charges to be reversed as they did not have my permission to charge on the new account with the old account number.
