Consumer Complaint: Billing Error! My American Express Card was set on auto payments each month. My bank account due to multiple transactions of the same transaction flagged the transaction and did not process payment completely. It will show as pending and then dropped when completed. I did not know what was going on. I was under the assumption payments were being taking care of. I only knew of late payment when got in touch with American Express. We tried making payments which will go thru but will eventually drop again this will take several months to track down on cause. Bank had a cancel payment on American Express. I disputed error on late payments with credit bureau and credit card company to fix my late payments. Ive since been paid off and closed but late payments have been stuck on my credit report. I would appreciate a response in fixing my credit report payment history.

Consumer Complaint: In response to a financial review, American Express suspended all my accounts, just as they previously threatened to close my account. I refuse to provide any financial documents, so I'm frustrated with Amex. Since opening my XXXX card this year, I've made {$10000.00} in purchases, promptly paying back every cent. It's disheartening to face this harassment now. Few years back - they did the same thing- they threatened me and closed my account. Sometime later, I decided to come back - now they are harassing me again. I submitted the documents they requested when I re-establised the relationship with them.

Consumer Complaint: I was issued two American Express gift cards by my company, one for {$200.00} and another for {$50.00}. I have attempted to use these balances at XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX, all for charges less than the balance of the cards. I have had each transaction declined by the vendor. I have tried to call the AmEx customer service number to figure out why the cards have been declined, but there is no one available to speak with. Having looked online now, it seems that many others are having the same issue with being completely unable to use these gift cards for online purchases.

Consumer Complaint: A {$50.00} American Express XXXX XXXX was purchased for me on XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, FL. I received the card as a gift one week later. Since then, every transaction I have attempted with this card has been declined, but not for lack of funds or error on my part. Purchases were attempted at XXXX, XXXX different gas stations, a XXXX XXXX, a XXXX XXXX XXXX, and at two other online vendors. All failed. When I contacted American Express customer service on XX/XX/XXXX, I was told that the card was fully functional, and that I should seek out different vendors if the card was not accepted there. I have yet to find any vendor that accepts this card, and my experience is similar to hundredsif not thousandsof other card recipients online : XXXX XXXX XXXX We are all told that our cards are fully functional, yet they are not functional at nearly any vendor. This issue is not seen with XXXX and XXXX prepaid cards.

Consumer Complaint: I received an American Express pre-paid gift card for XXXX for {$50.00}. Everytime I try and use the card, it says payment declined by card issuer. I checked to make sure XXXX took Amex, and they do, so I called customer service. Customer service advised me the payment is sometimes declined to protect the customer and there's no way to tell who is going to take the card. I said, they take the card because I checked, and they said to just try another store. They weren't any help so I did some research and this apparently is a thing with them. Why make a card the customer can't even use? The card didn't even have the full XXXX, it said the balance was XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I was given this American Express AMEX gift card for XXXX two days ago. I tried to use it at a store this morning and it didn't work. The pin pad gave me an error stating that the transaction couldn't be completed. The card is for {$100.00} and the purchase was only {$59.00}. I proceeded to call the number on the card and asked for the card to be activated. I was on the phone for over 10 minutes because the representative kept arguing with me. He kept telling me to run it as a credit card, but I informed him that all I did was SCAN the card and it didn't let me even get to the option to select debit or credit. I ended up just paying with my own money and told the person I wanted to receive confirmation that the card was activated, as he was trying to tell me to go back to the store and " make a small purchase ''. He did not accept my request for confirmation and I ended up hanging up because I was extremely angry with the lack of service I received. I am now trying to use the card online and XXXX and XXXX online both don't accept the card, despite the purchase being lower than the balance.

Consumer Complaint: my birthday is fairly close to XXXX, as such i've received XXXX Amex giftcards between XXXX and XXXX, where normally ive been able to add said cards to my digital wallet. that has not been the case with these. inconvenient, but fine because the assumption wass i can just use the card # 's and enter them manually for an online merchant. this is not the case. the merchant will pre authorize an amount ( an amount that never drops off ) and decline the purchase asking me to contact my issuer. Ive contacted Amex XXXX times about the inability to add the cards to XXXX XXXX, the pre authorizations that dont drop off even after 30 days, and being unable to use the card at online merchants that accept AMEX. Each time their solution has been to " keep trying ''

Consumer Complaint: I was provided an Amex gift card from my company. The gift card shows activation date and dollar amount for use {$50.00}. I was only able to use it once on a XXXX order and says I have {$30.00} left to use. I cant use the remaining balance anywhere! Ive tried online merchants and in store merchants. Ive called their customer service line 4 times, each time with someone incompetent and useless to speak to. They told me they dont know how to troubleshoot this problem, and everyone else that has called in is having the same issue. This is unethical for millions of people to have gift card balances that they cant use!

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I have purchased a XXXX from a Merchant called XXXX XXXX with a total cost of {$3800.00}. On XX/XX/XXXX, I requested the merchant to return the merchandise as I was not happy with it. The merchant issued me a XXXX XXXX to do it. I returned the merchandise using the label provided by the customer as requested. The tracking at the time showed that the merchandise was successfully delivered to the merchant. Merchant claimed it did not receive it, despite me following their instructions to the T. As the merchant claimed they had not received it, I opened a dispute with Amex and provided supporting documentation for it showing I did all the steps I was required. Amex representative at the time did not listen to my reasoning and ruled in favor of the merchant. Tracking is not available any longer but Amex should be able to see all documentation i've uploaded related to the case through the multiple conversations we had. I would like CFPB to support me to reopen this case with Amex and I'm loooking to have this dispute being ruled in my favor and being credited {$3800.00}. Dispute Number : Ref. XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I purchased an American Express giftcard in the amount of {$120.00} from my local XXXX. The card was activated by XXXX when I purchased it. The giftcard was then attempted to be used at multiple stores such as XXXX ( the same one i purchased the gift card from ) and XXXX XXXX. As well as multiple gas stations and on XXXX. At all of these locations the card was declined. I checked the balance online and saw that XXXX cents was taken out of my balance everytime we tried to use the card. I called customer service multiple times to which I was advised to just keep trying different locations until it works and repeatedly denied information as to what stores and sites the card would work at. I was then told the card was not eligible for a refund. I have now spent {$120.00} on a gift card that seemingly can not be used anywhere. All the vendor offered was to issue a replacement card which seems useless as the card is activated and working properly but just not accepted anywhere. This whole thing seems like a scam and I would like to receive compensation for at least the amount taken out of my account to purchase the gift card.
