Consumer Complaint: Dear CFPB, I DESPERATELY need your help. American Express violated my rights as a consumer by confiscating my XXXX membership rewards points valued at {$70000.00} ( XXXX cents/point ) when they closed down my credit card WITHOUT ANY NOTICE in XX/XX/XXXX. I pleaded with them to please allow me to transfer the points either to XXXX XXXX or XXXX Hotels or send me a check for the value of those points but they REFUSED. I told them I lost my job three years ago and havent worked since, sent them in my psychiatrist 's letter stating that I have ongoing mental health issues as a result of losing my job which leads to uncontrolled feelings and emotions causing outbursts beyond my control, but they refused to recognize or honor the membership points. I was told they have " dissapeared ''. Moreover and most importantly, American Express violated the 90-Day Grace Period for Rewards Redemption that XXXX XXXX of New York signed into law on XX/XX/XXXX to protect NY State Residents, of which I am one, from losing their points. The bill is XXXX XXXX XXXX which provides a 90 day grace period on rewards points when an account is closed. It was signed into law XX/XX/XXXX. I told this to the attorney they hired to strong arm me into paying off my {$70000.00} balance but he refused to acknowledge my concerns. Instead I was forced into an unfair settlement on the grounds that they would put a lein on my home and seize funds owed from my XXXX bank account if I refused to pay them. These points were EARNED over 30 years of loyalty and spending on my Platinum American Express Card for which they made a tidy profit. They have violated the new law that XXXX XXXX has on the books for New York residents and acted with malice and reckless disregard for me. They even called the police to my home thinking I was XXXXl. I never indicated such and it was very embarassing for me at my building to say the least. If they were so concerned over my health and safety they could have told me they would mail me a {$70000.00} check. That would have resolved my fears and calmed me down. Their inhouse lawyer named XXXX XXXX threatened legal action against me if I didnt pay my outstanding {$70000.00} bill and sign their settlement agreement. Because I haven't worked in 3 years, I was desperate to find a lawyer to help me out of this mess as my mental health was spiraling out of control due to this huge loss in rewards points. I had saved those points over 30 years and had wanted to surprise my wife who is a XXXX XXXX to an XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX as we never had a honey moon but Amex ruined those hopes and dreams for me. Out of desperation, I hired an unqualified lawyer to handle this case but only later found out his specialty was employment law and not consumer fraud. I subsequently fired my lawyer for his inappropriate handling of things and his lack of qualifications for guidance. I want justice and have not received it. I want the value of my membership rewards points which they took from me. They also stranded my wife who is a XXXX at the parking garage in a bad neighborhood in XXXX bringing her to tears as she only had the secondary AmEx card on her and no way to pay the garage as AmEx cut off her card as well. I beg of you at the CFPB to help me and force AmeX to honor thoe points. I have written numerous times to XXXX XXXX and NO response. Mean, callous and insensitive. I have ALL my correspondence sent and documentation to support this claim.

Consumer Complaint: Tried to purchase gas at XXXX on XX/XX/2022. Swiped my card twice and it said see cashier so I used a different card and never successfully bought gas with this card. I was charged {$100.00} twice for the two times I swiped my card. XXXX customer care looked up my transaction and has no hold on my card its the serve card holding my money. I have called them everyday this week and have been told different answers. When I called at the time the charges happened on the XXXX I was told they could not help until the transaction was complete. I call back a few days later and they said it could take up to 7 days. I called back today now they say 8 days. I asked to talk to a supervisor and waited for half an hour. A person picked up and said escalation call back and hung up. I have made all but certain that it is the card issuer holding funds on my account and wont release them. And the varying answers about when my money will be off hold makes me think its a scam. They also keep saying its XXXX holding the money but XXXX clears transactions after 48 hours. Serve took {$200.00} for gas and I would like it back.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I purchased an American Express debit gift card in the amount of {$250.00}. As soon as the card was activated at the cash register, there was a pending transaction for {$240.00}. and some change at a restaurant in XXXX XXXX New York. I called the number on the back of the card and when I finally got a representative named XXXX, she told me that they can't stop a pending transaction and said to call back in a few days. I called back on XX/XX/XXXX and the representative told me I'd have to call that restaurant. I knew that wouldn't do any good. I am out the {$250.00}. on this card and it sure would be nice to get my {$250.00}. back. I live in Tennessee and purchased the card in Tennessee. The transaction was in XXXX NY. The card number is XXXX XXXX XXXX. Expires XX/XX/XXXX and the code is XXXX. Thanks

Consumer Complaint: 1 ). This complaint is not a duplicate complaint of any previous complaints at CFPB ; and this complaint is the continuation of the previous two complaints with the complaint IDs XXXX and XXXX. 2 ). I successfully paid the {$8400.00} to my American Express credit card in XX/XX/2018 ( the payment confirmation from XXXX XXXXXXXX is attached ) but American Express wrongly missed the payment ( the payment activities from American Express are attached ) and intentionally ignored all my disputes with that missed payment, and then hired several different collection agencies to harass me and wrongly added delinquency to my credit report. 3 ). In its response for the complaint XXXX, American Express again provided fraudulent monthly statements to show that my {$8400.00} payment was not missed and was applied to my American Express credit card but ignored the payment activities I submitted in that complaint. Much worse, American Express falsely stated that we are unable to confirm the payment information on your online payment center, as we do not have access to your online account, but all those payment activities were from American Express, and I got them from American Express website on XX/XX/2018. Its weird that American Express provided the fraudulent monthly statements that do not comply with the payment activities and falsely denied it has access to those payment activities from its own system. 4 ). Therefore, I hope American Express could be penalized for providing fraudulent monthly statements, wrongly missing my payment, intentionally ignoring all my disputes, repeatedly harassing me through collection agencies, and wrongly adding delinquency record to my credit profile.

I previously sent a complaint on here that they were not honoring the Military Lending Act portion of the Service Members Civil Relief Act. After contacting the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau they correct the error with the XXXX card and return the fees and interest associated with it. I contacted them to do the same with the XXXX XXXX and they are giving me the same run around they did with the XXXX. I've messaged on their chat feature and spoken on the phone with the representatives and nothing has changed.

Consumer Complaint: Hello I XXXX XXXX recently applied for a credit card on XX/XX/2022. I received a denial letter XX/XX/2022 saying, Thank you for applying for American Express Gold Card. We are writing to let you know that, unfortunately, we can not approve your application at this time. So I called American Express the same day XX/XX/2022. Explaining 15 USC 1602 ( f ) which tells me credit is my right I can not be denied a right. American Express proceeds to explain I was denied because of my credit score. Then I respond with 15 USC 1602 ( p ) makes is clear they committed fraud used my credit card ( social security card ) without authority and I received no benefits. American Express repeats themselves saying your credit score makes you ineligible for credit according to our procedures. I respond with, Isnt that discrimination? According to 15 USC 1691 ( a ). These are three violations off of one phone call. I feel like Im being taken advantage of I feel stressed an XXXX because I cant pay my bills and car notes an provide for my child. I know my rights as a person. This company policies doesnt supersede Federal Law. So Im asking you to step in to help American Express understand. Thank you!

Consumer Complaint: We have a XXXX American Express XXXX and pay an annual fee of {$250.00} Included in that fee, as described in the perks is an annual companion ticket. Companion Certificate Receive a domestic Main Cabin round-trip companion certificate each year upon renewal of your Card. * *Payment of the government imposed taxes and fees of no more than {$80.00} for roundtrip domestic flights ( for itineraries with up to four flight segments ) is required. Baggage charges and other restrictions apply. See terms and conditions for details. We have tried to use that ticket for a trip to XXXX, XXXX and were told it could not be used for a trip to XXXX, XXXX. There are no such exceptions listed. We have talked to Amex who said XXXX was in charge of thatwe spoke with XXXX and they said, Thats not eligible for the companion ticket - no explanation given or rule cited.
