Consumer Complaint: Do not trust XXXX XXXX XXXX even if their representations to you are in writing. XXXX XXXX XXXX of XXXX XXXX XXXX filed a lien against me on behalf of American Express. In XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX ( on behalf of Amex ) and I agreed to a written settlement, whereby all liens would be released upon payment of the settlement amount. I paid the settlement in full more than 78 days ago. Both Amex and XXXX XXXX XXXX confirmed receipt of the entire settlement payment. However, despite my numerous requests of XXXX XXXX XXXX to file the necessary paperwork to release the lien, they have not done so. It is one excuse after another. As of this morning ( XX/XX/XXXX ) the lien was still effective. I want Amex and XXXX XXXX XXXX to file all necessary paperwork with any government entity that is necessary for Amex and XXXX XXXX XXXX to release the lien.

Consumer Complaint: I work at XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX, a global professional services firm, partnered with American Express in the United States for all corporate credit cards. I hold an American Express corporate credit card with XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX. I logged into my corporate American Express account on XX/XX/2022 to pay my bill, and I saw an exclusive offer for corporate card holders to apply for a personal American Express card. The exclusive offer noted that I will receive a " {$150.00} recurring statement credit on your XXXX XXXX account after approval, and every year at renewal when you maintain the same XXXX XXXX account ''. I entered my corporate card details to confirm my eligibility ( refer to screenshot # XXXX ). I then applied for the XXXX XXXX through the link provided on the offer page, which again clearly stated the {$150.00} statement credit after approval, and every year at renewal. In addition to the statement credit, the offer included XXXX membership rewards points after spending {$6000.00} within the first 6 months ( which I did receive ). You can also note that the normal offer to non-corporate card holders applying through the regular channel was only XXXX membership rewards points at that time. If I didn't sign up via the promotional link, then why would I have gotten the XXXX points as opposed to the XXXX that was being offered to regular customers. Once I entered my corporate card number and followed the " View my offers '' link in Screenshot # XXXX, I was forwarded to the page where I clicked " Apply Now ''. You can see the same offer was made on this page in XXXX # XXXX. Unfortunately, screenshot # XXXX does not show the " Apply Now '' link that I clicked on, so I have included Screenshot # XXXX to show how the " Apply Now '' link was shown ( Screenshot # XXXX shows the offer for the American Express Gold card, but I applied for the Platinum Card ). Luckily, I took these screenshots because I was showing my friend the two different offers ( Platinum or Gold card ) and I wanted my friend 's advice on which card to get. Finally after submitting my application, I was brought to the page which stated I was approved for the Platinum card ( screenshot # XXXX ). You can see in the website address bar that the URL included " XXXX '' and " XXXX '' - evidence that I signed up via the corporate offer link for the XXXX card. I have called American Express and they have investigated the matter 3 times. Each time they have closed the investigation saying that there was no error on their part.

Consumer Complaint: Beginning XXXX of 2020, I was contacted by a debt collector about my Amex bill. I signed up for a payment plan and have made monthly payments without interruption for 2 years. I have XXXX out the company is not part of Amex collections but a separate debt collector ( XXXX ). They have so far collected ( {$4300.00} ) which is MORE than the amount I owed Amex ( {$3700.00} ). I have been unable to reach anyone at XXXX despite phoning every hour for days on end and weeks on end. Additionally, they have in the past taken more than the agreed amount and many, many times days before the scheduled payment date. I see the on time payments have NEVER been reported and show negatively on my credit report. I would like my score to reflect the two years of on time payments. I also am afraid I am being defrauded by a company that pretends to be Amex and then is not able to be contacted. At this point, I do not know what they are doing with my money.

Consumer Complaint: Applied for the American Express Platinum credit card over the phone in XXXX. The agent told me that I was qualified for a XXXX membership rewards points if I spend {$6000.00} within 6 months. Couple days later, I chatted online to make sure the offer sticks with the card ( see attachments ) and the answer that I was told was yes. Two months later, I was told the welcome offer was rejected. After the {$690.00} annual fee was paid as well as {$6000.00} spend requirement was met. Between XXXX and XXXX, I have been waiting for a resolution from Amex and the compensation that was offered was {$50.00} statement credit and they said no further escalation that could be done. Ridiculous.

Consumer Complaint: I found unauthorized charges on my American Express credit card. I had automatic payments set up for the card, therefore all the charges were paid. These charges were from XXXX. I called XXXX, about the charges. XXXX told me they knew who made the charges, but could not tell me because of HIPPA. I was told I had to dispute it with American Express. On XX/XX/2022 I disputed the charges. The charges were reversed. On XX/XX/2022, I called American express and asked for a refund of the fraudulent charges. As they were paid for by my automatic payment. I was told they would send out a refund check. After that conversation, all the fraudulent charges were put back on my account. I was told that I called on XX/XX/2022 and told American Express that I wanted a refund, so a check was mailed out. They said on XX/XX/2022, I also told them that the charges were legitimate, and to close the fraud case. They are now saying I owe them {$660.00}. Please, I am a XXXX XXXX and I need help.

Consumer Complaint: I closed on a house and one of the requirements was to payoff an American Express balance. The financing bank could only payoff the most recent statement, which did not reflect my most recent {$400.00} payment. I knew this would result in a {$400.00} credit balance and I planned to contact American Express for a refund to my payment account on file once the payment posted. I am in the middle of a move, so many things are already packed away - including this particular credit card as it's simply a backup card. Once the payment posted, I attempted to use the website to request a credit balance refund. I entered {$400.00} but it gave me an error indicating I needed to enter an amount equal to or greater than {$0.00}, so apparently the website is broken for users wishing to request a credit balance refund. I instead attempted to use their chat support. I was logged into my account and verified my mothers maiden name as requested. They then asked me to verify the 3 digit security code on the back of the card. As I am in the middle of a move, the card is packed away. I would have to unload and unpack several boxes to find it. I explained this and asked if there was any other method of verification I could do and they said no. They directed me to a supervisor who said the same. Their only suggestion was to mail a check - as I am in the middle of a move and I do not know how long that would take, I don't know what address I would even use - my old address where I won't be soon? My new address I won't be at for two months? A temporary address? And how is that the more secure option when the check could easily be lost, stolen, or delivered to an address I'm no longer associated with? I asked for a refund of my most recent {$400.00} to the payment account it was made from, and they told me I'd still have to provide the same 3 digit code. Basically- American Express wants to sit on my {$400.00} because they have no method of verifying their customers unless that customer has a silly 3 digit code rather than find another way to verify me and safely and securely return a payment to the payment account that has been on file for years. Instead, they'd rather drop a check in the mail to an address I won't be associated with in a week.

Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: American Express card did not send paper or electronic statements, but I would get email from them telling me my payment is late the day after it was due EVERY MONTH. I'd call them, they'd waive the fee due to not sending a statement, and I'd pay the total balance on the spot. This went on for years! In XX/XX/2022 they would not waive the fee, I paid the balance without the fee and was told I'd be contacted by a supervisor as one was not available. They never called. In XXXX they billed a late fee and interest on top of the previous late fee and I called again, and then again in XXXX. This has continued up to now ( XX/XX/2022 ). Again, a month has gone by and I'm being billed, again, for interest and late fees on interest and late fees that I'm only aware of as my bank emailed me I have a bill due. This is deplorable! I've spent hours on the phone with them each month calling their customer service line at XXXX I contacted them again today, and they ( supervisor XXXX XXXX stated that he was clearing the balance and closing the account. He said he was 200 % sure this was done, which I've been told every month. My last call on XX/XX/2022 I was told the same, and given confirmation number XXXX. When I asked XXXX for a confirmation number today I was told that they don't generate confirmation numbers. He assured me it's done, and in the same breath recommended I call back in a week to confirm the account has a XXXX balance for my peace of mind. Regardless of whether the issue is resolved, I'm escalating this issue as it should've never happened. Hopefully I will not have to follow up on this complaint again next month.

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Can't close your account
Consumer Complaint: Kabbage refuses to close my Kabbage checking account despite my repeated requests over several weeks. I've attached a screenshot of their website FAQ describing how to close a Kabbage checking account : they say to bring the balance to {$0.00} and then call to request the account be closed. I brought the account to {$0.00} and on XX/XX/XXXX I called to request the account be closed. That day on the phone the rep confirmed the checking account was now closed. However, I learned on XX/XX/XXXX that the checking account was still open and had not been closed ( because Kabbage began sending me fraud alerts of attempted purchases in another state using my debit card ). I called Kabbage again to explain on XX/XX/XXXX. That day, the phone rep told me my checking account had not been closed. I asked for an explanation of why my checking account with a {$0.00} balance had not been closed per my XX/XX/XXXX request, despite Kabbage 's own website FAQs about account closures stating that the {$0.00} account would be closed per my phone request. They also told me they refuse to close the account until 60 days have elapsed. Kabbage responded to my CFPB complaint with a letter stating that they refuse to close the account until 60 days have elapsed with a {$0.00} balance. This response is unacceptable, not in line with standard banking practices, and contradicts their own Kabbage website FAQs about how to close an account ( bring the balance to {$0.00} and call to close -- nowhere does their own site state that you can not close an account until 60 days have elapsed ). Today XX/XX/XXXX I discovered my Kabbage checking account is still not closed, and now its balance is {$2.00} despite my having brought the balance to {$0.00} on XX/XX/XXXX to close it ( apparently they deposited {$2.00} in interest on XX/XX/XXXX, despite the account 's balance having been {$0.00} since XX/XX/XXXX ). So, today XX/XX/XXXX, I called Kabbage again and this time requested they close the account immediately and mail me a refund check for the {$2.00}. Per Kabbage phone rep reference number XXXX, the rep said she has requested a {$2.00} refund check be mailed to me. She again refused to close the checking account : she said the account must be at {$0.00} for 60 days before they will close it, and the XXXX clock restarts today XX/XX/XXXX ( regardless of my having called to request it be closed on XX/XX/XXXX when it already had a {$0.00} balance ). I have never experience this refusal to close an account upon request with any bank, ever. Every other bank I have ever banked with closes checking accounts immediately upon request, regardless of balance. Kabbage must comply with my request to NOT keep my checking account open and close it immediately -- not at some date 60 days in the future.
