Consumer Complaint: Amex sued me for someone else 's debt. I'll include the timeline below : Hold in the amount of {$8500.00} was placed on my XXXX XXXX account XX/XX/XXXX I discovered the hold around the XXXX of XXXX Called XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( Court Orders and Levies ) XXXX - Rep : XXXX ) and they provided me the following XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Case XXXX PDF attached from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX // XXXX She reviewed the documents and agreed I should not have been named in this case + they admitted they did not have power to levy in Florida. I was then referred to : XXXX XXXX Wisconsin XXXX who Reps Amex in this case Spoke with a XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX who also agreed I should not have had not been named and was placing my file at their highest office for review Had an attorney from XXXX ( XXXX ) call me back indicating the hold had been released, however she was not aware funds were actually debited. She also agreed I should have never been named in this case and it was new to her that my funds were actually taken Every single person from XXXX, and both law firms have all apologized and agreed this should have never happened to me, and they are all working to get my funds back To this date my funds are still stolen I've lost nearly XXXX weeks of work on this matter with the multiple phone calls, the deep stress and anxiety of wondering if I'll ever get my funds back, and only to hear every person of this process is finger pointing at the other meanwhile I am the victim here. Note I am a current Amex client with over XXXX in tradelines with them + a deposit account. Further proof that if I were liable here my current accounts would be suspended and my own deposit accounts with them would have been collected on. I'm also certain we could get documentation from Amex showing I was removed from the card in question as that would have been in the last 7 years. I believe data retention requires them to keep for 7 years. Also note I opened these accounts at XXXX to get the new customer bonus and because they stole my funds it made me ineligible for that bonus. Lost around {$300.00} from that. {$200.00} bonus for opening the savings accounts plus another {$100.00} for doing the checking at the same time. XXXX has a full record of that if we need to bring those terms into the picture. It's not a ton of money but it was a major factor in me opening the accounts with XXXX for that bonus that I've lost out on. Also the interest I would have earned on that stolen amount of money. This whole thing has been a nightmare to say the least and now I worry every single day if any of my other accounts could be hijacked at any moment. Thank you for any help here. I've never had to do something like this, and never saw myself in this situation but I do think it's wrong what these folks have done and I would hope your team can help me get this money back and discuss damages where you see appropriate. Reminder, this is an old room mate of mine where I was an auth user on his Amex card for household expenses. After we moved out I called Amex and had myself removed from that account. That was nearly five years ago. I've also spoke with XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX who have both agreed this was a major error on their end and the receiver 's end XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Case XXXX Mind you, when XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX finally sent me a check back the check bounced due to NSF. Causing me fees and negatively impacting my record with the bank. This is at a time I'm looking for lending to purchase a house. Bounced checks can influence a bank 's decision for lending or the terms available. Anything else you would like to discuss please call me anytime XXXX XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I extended my credit more oncewith AMERICAN EXPRESS COMPANY ( AMEX ) and they received consideration for this transaction. In return I received an adverse action letter saying i was denied the use of credit i already extended now showing a pattern of actions that are adverse to me. The agreement I was provided never had an option for me to opt-out and maintain my private non public personal information from being shared with consumer reporting agencies pursuant to the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. The terms in the transaction that i applied for online is an agreement that is contrary to public policy. The agreement they had me fill out online is proof that this transaction would be complete only, if I would agree to an extortionate extension of credit. it was undue influence that made me complete that unconscionable agreement that i filled out because i was left with no other options. The online agreement was prepared long before i decided to extend my credit with AMEX. I should have been provided any kind of contract as those intentional actions violates the XXXX XXXX XXXX outlaws any contract, conspiracy, or combination of business interests in restraint of foreign or interstate trade. this agreement allowed unjust enrichment.

Issue: Closing your account

Consumer Complaint: Hi. My credit card account was closed by American Express due to inactivity ( no fraud or any kind of illegal situation ) while I didn't receive any kind of notification or warning which was mentioned in https : //www.americanexpress.com/us/customer-service/faq.account-management.card-inactivity-action.html. I tried to contact Amex but was told that a letter mail was sent to me which firstly I didn't receive, apparently. The common way of Amex communication is through email or text message ( I opted in electronic statement ). While for such a big change, they chose to use paper letter to communicate which still I didn't receive. I feel that they did it intentionally. I tried to intake my account with three attempts. At first, I tried to call them like early this year since one day when I randomly logged in app I figured out my account was cancelled. I was told that if I file a claim, I can get my account back without telling me there's a time limit about it. Second time, when I called, I was told that it's been too long since the account was canceled. I was just being kind to rest the case until recently I figured out many people like me had the similar situation where the account was closed without any notice. Today I called again to restate my case but still got the same answer for the cancellation being too long time ago.

Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: I set up an autopayment on my AMEX account this morning for {$1600.00} each month. The payment is due XXXX XXXX. Today is XX/XX/XXXX and I've already made a payment on XX/XX/XXXX ( {$2700.00} ) which is still processing. Typically, one can not start an autopay for the current month this close to the due date. Knowing this, I assumed the autopay would start in XXXX which is what I want. The next screen stated that my autopayment would be processed today! I can't afford to make two payments in one month. So, I looked for the edit payment or delete payment button. There is no option to edit one 's payment or even to delete the payment. All I could think is that I don't have the money to pay my other bills and make two payments to AMEX! Plus, I still need to buy food for XXXX. I called AMEX. I was told that the payment can not be canceled. I would need to wait until it has posted and then request a credit to my bank account. I don't have that kind of money to do this. I called a second time, thinking I'll just delete my first payment since that hasn't posted yet. I was told that the first payment can't be stopped either! I would have to wait for the money to be taken from my bank account and then call AMEX to request an electronic refund which allegedly would take two days which means it won't hit my account until after XXXX. Maybe that wouldn't be a problem except that I still need to buy food for XXXX -- which isn't cheap. I am very angry that I was not given the ability to edit my payment or delete my payment by American Express. No other credit card/bank does business this way. I would not have this problem otherwise.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: American Express is fraudulently reporting and trying to collect on a charge from an old credit card that I has back in XXXX the card was lost/stolen and my identity was used to make unauthorized charges, and now XXXX years later they sold the " fraud case '' to a collection agency. The collection agency keeps harassing me via mail, and phone calls, they have even sent a threatening letter to place me in jail if payment wasn't made on the old fraud/dispute case that has been settled and closed since XX/XX/2020. I have written proof that American Express got the money back and it was covered under the fraud protection act. The FDIC insurance claims protection for fraud was honored to my knowledge of paying back the fraud charges. this protection is for when you have any credit card and file a fraud dispute which I did in accordance with the law. However, It's like they want a triple payment, since XX/XX/2020 American Express considered the case closed and " wrote off '' the alleged debt. However, to my understanding, it was paid back under the FDIC fraud protection, and now falsely and illegally trying to collect a fraud/dispute case through a collection agency.
