Consumer Complaint: My wife applied and was approved for an Amex card via a referral link that I generated through the Amex site. I should have received around XXXX points as a result of the referral but haven't received them, despite the fact that the referral was made in XXXX. I've escalated this issue to their customer support / care departments but haven't heard back since my last inquiry. Previously they claimed that the reason the points weren't awarded was that my wife applied directly as opposed to using my link ( this is not true ). I believe a technical issue with their referral system is at fault.

Consumer Complaint: I enrolled in a promotion where American Express Hilton XXXX XXXX advertised in XX/XX/2022, that AMEX will award the credit card holder XXXX bonus additional points for every {$500.00} spent ( up to a maximum of XXXX bonus points ). The verbiage on the promo was confusing. So I called American Express customer service to confirm that if I made a lump purchase of {$2500.00}, that I would be awarded XXXX Hilton Honors points. The American Express rep that I spoke with confirmed this, which was why I decided to make a lump sum payment of over {$2500.00} later in XX/XX/2022. When the statement cycle ended, American Express only awarded me XXXX Hilton Honors points for the purchase of more than {$2500.00}. I subsequently have made 2 phone calls which have lasted over XXXX XXXX with American Express about this error and they have failed to properly credit my Hilton Honors account with the missing XXXX bonus points.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I applied for a credit limit increase with AMEX and was not notified of a decision until I contacted them via phone on XX/XX/XXXX. I was informed by a customer service representative that according to the notes, I had been denied due to XXXX or more of my accounts or loans being in a debt relief program. I told her that was not true because I'd never participated in a debt relief program and I didn't have any loans either. She said they pulled my XXXX credit report and upon purchasing all XXXX credit reports after the call I found out that AMEX never pulled my credit to approve me for the credit limit increase. When asked how that could be I was given the run around for XXXX hours being placed on hold and transferred from supervisor to supervisor still not getting a resolution. I was also told by a supervisor that they were not credit report experts and they were not allowed to give me that info over the phone and he could not further assist me.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: I told the CEO I would pay the debt. ( XX/XX/2022 ) I paid the debt in full ( XX/XX/2022 ) They claim I didn't pay it ( XX/XX/2022 to XX/XX/2022 ) I asked for my payment coupon back. ( XX/XX/2022 ) They " lost '' it and/or " did not credit '' my account ( XX/XX/2022 ) I wrote them to send payment back to me or discharge the debt. ( XX/XX/2022 ) I received notice that because I didn't adhere to my " card member agreement '' they would " reserve the right to report the account as delinquent to all credit reporting agencies '' ( XX/XX/2022 ) On XX/XX/2022 I sent a certified mail letter demanding they either return the payment or discharge the debt. I have not heard from them except that they will report this account delinquent.

Consumer Complaint: It was brought to my attention after recently applying for an American Express Card that an account was already opened without my permission in my name. I recently fell victim to identity theft over the course of the last year. My mail was being rerouted and due to a data breach from XXXX my phone was overtaken by something called a sim swap causing my number to be stolen for a period of time. XXXX and XXXX have been amazing at working swiftly with clearing the debt from my credit report however XXXX has not removed the fraudulent information and American Express have not closed the account. Attached you will find all documentation revolving the fraudulent information and Im praying both companies get it resolved immediately as they are both now violating my rights as a consumer and breaking federal law by 1 ) holding me accountable for fraudulent debt and 2 ) reporting inaccurate information to my credit. I spoke with XXXX in the fraud department at American Express and was promised that the inaccurate information will be removed promptly so I am now putting this in black and white to hold both companies accountable for their conspicuous actions. I expect this to be resolved within 30 days to avoid further action. A report has been filed with both the federal trade commission and XXXX police department.

Consumer Complaint: American Express offered me a 20 % cash back and XXXX points on restaurant spendings during the first 12 months ( capped at {$250.00} total cash back ). They honored this offer for my small restaurant spendings, but did not honor it on my largest ones. Most recently in XX/XX/2022, they categorized two of my restaurant spendings in XXXX as " other purchases '', rather than as " restaurants ''. Upon my inquiry in late XX/XX/2022, Customer Support agreed with me that it was " odd '', but told me to wait a few days and contact them again if the cash back and the XXXX points did not appear. Upon my second inquiry in early XX/XX/2022, Customer Support told me that those restaurant spendings were categorized as " bar & cafe '', rather than restaurants, and so did not qualify for the cash back and the XXXX points. I found this to be arbitrary for two reasons. First, the places where I made the spendings were, to any reasonable person, restaurants, and not bars nor cafes. And the spendings were on meals. Second, I had received XXXX points and cash backs from places that are obviously cafes ( such as XXXX ). So they seem to make a distinction between restaurants and " bars & cafes '' quite arbitrarily, and there is no way customers like myself can determine beforehand whether Amex would categorize a place as a restaurant or a bar/cafe. This practice of arbitrary categorization gives Amex the power to exploit their customers, since there is no way for customers to know Amex 's categorization of a particular spending, nor to dispute Amex 's categorization later.

Consumer Complaint: I have asked American Express to stop soliciting credit applications from me for XXXX years. American Express repeatedly solicits credit applications from me. I have put my information on opt-out with XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX with Amex and XXXX CFPB. I have added all of my addresses multiple times, i have included all of my email addresses multiple times, and i have asked to have my businesses taken off of the american express solicitation list. American Express repeatedly answers these complaints with boiler plate language insinuating that i am upset because they will not approve me for their card. Although, i am only asking that i be removed from the mailing lists and have my addresses opted out of solicitations from the cards. i have spent several XXXX dollars repairing my credit and receiving advice on how to lower my interest payments, reduce my debt, and to better manage my monthly budget and my finances. Yet, American Express still continues to ignore my requests to be opted out and continues to send me solicitations. I have dozens of complaints about American Express in my CFPB dashboard and they continue to market to me. I wish to be removed from all mailings at all of my known mailing addresses including ; XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, NY XXXX. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, NY XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, NY XXXX

Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases
Consumer Complaint: From XX/XX/XXXX through XX/XX/XXXX, American Express blocked at least 15 of my attempted uses of my American Express credit card, with ABSOLUTELY NO stated reason each time!!! I wasted HOURS because I had ABSOLUTELY no way of knowing, in every instance, of why each attempted charge was NOT being approved!!! In every instance, it was not until HOURS LATER that American Express texted me that I had to approve EACH of these charges because they " deemed them to be suspicious ''!!! That was/is ABSURD and LUDICROUS : all of these attempted charges were with large, well-recognized, established main-line vendors or merchants!!! There was absolutely NOTHING suspicious about ANY of these attempted charges!!! In every instance, I had to use a different card, requiring that I re-start the purchase ( including on-line forms ) from scratch, wasting hours of my time from running my self-employed business!!! American Express will try to tell you that there was some " fraud alert '' on my card that required them to do this. That is a BLATANT LIE!!! Not only have I not reported ANY fraudulent usage of my American Express card ; I did NOT even have a single disputed charge during this 3-moth period!!! Another reason I did NOT deserve this INSULTING treatment is that I have been with American Express for more than 15 consecutive years, building up an EXCELLENT credit rating with them during that time!!! XXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX.
