Issue: Trouble using your card

Subissue: Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit

Consumer Complaint: Let me premise this complaint by saying Ive have always worked hard at preserving my excellent credit score, and this is the 2nd time in my entire credit history a creditor has intentionally ruined it. In XXXX of this year, I received notice from American Express that my credit card would soon expire ; and a new one should arrive shortly. In XXXX, I received my card and put it aside to use for emergency purposes. During the month of XXXX and XXXX, I received a number of promotional offers... including a personal loan. Since I pretty much stopped using credit cards, I wasnt enticed by their offers. On XX/XX/XXXX, concerned that my XXXX XXXX was in need of wheel alignment, I had it inspected by a reputable repair shop. Unfortunately, they determined my control arm wheel bearing unit needed replacement. Once the repair was complete I opted to pay using my American Express card. It wasnt until receiving a text message from them I realized the transaction was over my credit limit. Well, I figured an extra payment ( {$100.00} ) towards my balance would resolve it. Earlier this week, I received an email/text from a credit monitoring company that my score had dropped from XXXX to XXXX. Dismayed, I called American Express regarding this issue to hopefully resolve it ; or at least receive an explanation as to why the transaction was approved. Again XXXX reiterate my use of credit cards was minimum, and my credit limit had decreased on all of them. After speaking to a representative, who couldnt provide any insight on the approved transaction ; Im hoping by registering my complaint to you, my credit score would be restored. It really baffles me, that I can receive promotional/personal loan offers due to my credit worthiness ; yet a {$75.00} over the limit transaction ( which they should have declined ) has placed me at a marginal status. Its also worth mentioning, Ive been an American Express member since XXXX ; and never been late on a payment. My credit history is what Ive worked to achieve and maintain, and I want my XXXX score returned in its entirety.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms

Consumer Complaint: Dear Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to file a complaint regarding a recent issue I encountered with American Express regarding their failure to provide me with the promised welcome offer for my credit card. Additionally, I have concerns about the fraudulent promotion advertisement they used during the application process. I applied for an American Express credit card on XXXX XXXX with the understanding that I would be eligible to receive a welcome bonus of XXXX Membership Rewards ( MR ) points upon meeting the specified criteria. However, after six months of fulfilling all the requirements, American Express informed me that I was not eligible for the welcome bonus. According to their explanation, I should have received a pop-up message during the application process notifying me of my ineligibility, but I never received any such message. I can confidently confirm that I would have declined to proceed with the application had I been aware of this information. The misleading and fraudulent promotion advertisement employed by American Express is deeply disappointing. As a responsible consumer, I carefully reviewed the terms and conditions of the offer before applying, and I fulfilled all the necessary requirements within the designated timeframe. It is disheartening to be denied the promised welcome bonus of XXXX MR points after investing time and effort into meeting the obligations. In light of this situation, I kindly request your intervention and assistance in addressing this matter with American Express. I believe that American Express should honor their promotional promises and rectify this issue by providing me with the welcome bonus of XXXX MR points that I am entitled to. I urge the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to take appropriate action to ensure that American Express addresses this deceptive marketing practice and resolves the issue to the satisfaction of affected customers. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt assistance and a fair resolution. Should you require any additional information or documentation from my end, please do not hesitate to contact me at [ your contact number ] or [ your email address ]. Sincerely, XXXX.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms

Consumer Complaint: I opened an American Express Delta Skymiles XXXX card in XX/XX/2023. I signed up using a promotional code for this card that included a welcome offer of XXXX Bonus Miles that would be credited to my Delta account upon spending {$3000.00} within the first 6 months of having the card. Upon meeting this spend threshold on XX/XX/2023, I was told it would take up to 6-8 weeks for the miles to be reflected on my Delta account . When the miles weren't credited to my account after 8 weeks, I inquired with American Express, who told me it could actually take up to 12 weeks. Upon the end of the 12th week I had still not seen my miles. I then called American Express to complain the miles had still not been credited to my Delta account, to which they told me there is a known glitch with the offer code, affecting a multitude of individuals that is causing them not to receive the miles and that I should receive them but it could take another 6-8 weeks. It is now closing on week 15 and I have not received my miles. American Express is not upholding their end of the offer and has taken weeks to adress the issue.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card

Consumer Complaint: American Express keeps giving inconsistent and misleading information on same subjects. I opened a new credit card with American Express on XX/XX/17. Before applying online, I called their customer service to confirm if they have next day delivery option since I will be away from the delivery address but need to use the card, the representative told me there is an instant card info service that applies to certain cards. So I asked her if that applies to me, she said, yes, since you are a new customer, you can have the instant card info and you will receive an email right after opening the account. However, after opening the account, I didn't receive such email. So I called them again, and the rep this time told it is not eligible to me. If I had known the first time I called, I wouldn't have opened the account at all. This is false advertising. Then, I looked it up on their website, and saw this statement " If you need to change the shipping address, please contact us. '' under the new card deliver page. So I reached out to an online chat rep and asked if they can change the delivery address. This rep told me, he can not do it but he gave me a number and said it can be done on the phone just not in the chat. With the previous experience, I asked him are you 100 % sure they can do it. He said he needed to further check and then messaged me " Yes, I can confirm they can do it. I dialed the number he gave me, but the rep on the phone said they can not do it but I can contact the new account service department and they can help me. So I did, but apparently they also told me there is nothing they can do. They can not change the delivery address whatsoever. So far, aside from getting false information and lied to, nothing has been done to solve any issue with the new account opening.

Consumer Complaint: I am filing this complaint against American Express Company because the company is evading its responsibilities. Two months ago, I filed an arbitration through XXXX, but the company has not formally responded. I have sent several notifications, and I feel frustrated. I have tried to resolve this matter, but the company ignores my letters. I request that an investigation be initiated against the American Express Company. Subissue: Account status incorrect

Consumer Complaint: I entered into a repayment ( settlement ) agreement with American Express with repayment terms as follows : * Balance : {$7600.00} * Term : XXXX XXXX * Due : XXXX of every month or the following business day if XXXX is a weekend or holiday * XXXX XXXX XXXX : {$380.00} ( Due XX/XX/XXXX ) * Pmts XXXX : {$210.00} ( Due XX/XX/XXXX ) * Last XXXX Pmts : $ XXXX I have paid on-time and as agreed, beginning XX/XX/XXXX when the repayment plan began, and again on my XXXX payment in XXXX. American Express is still reporting my account to the bureaus as " 120 days late in April '' and " 150 days late in May '' and they are also adding late fees to my account still. This is because the settlement is handled by a separate department internally and doesn't seem to communicate to the " other '' customer service department. When I call in they route me back and forth in a circular fashion stating " I can't help, check with this department ..., '' etc. I am requesting they update my account status to the bureaus to accurately reflect I am paying as agreed and on-time since we began the settlement and repayment terms, and to stop adding late fees for payments made on time under the new agreement.
